I'm almost concerned that Rev could be swamped with shooters, diluting the quality of standout titles. This game looks cool but it's going to be going up against Metroid Prime 3 and whatever Bond game EA makes next and other Ubisoft titles like the rumoured Call of Duty and and they're gunna be so many shooters on Rev. It could get ugly.

I dont really want THIS game to be a rails shooter but a rails shooter would be MUCHO appreciated.

Anyways, this game looks amazing.  The more I read about it, the better it sounds.  Also I forget where I read it but they seemed to state that there would be online multiplayer in the game.  It just keeps getting better and better.

right on. do you not go back and play super mario bros. or donkey kong when you get the chance? sure we've moved on from side scrolling to 3d and from 4 levels to huge worlds but whats fun is fun and will NEVER die. the appeal will always be there. there are pretty good rail shooters out there. galaga anyone? okay just kidding, but there are good rail shooters in the sense we're all talking about.

to make it in a new/next generation and on consoles in general, they have to be hard and fast paced. it cant be, atleast in my own opinion, one of those games where you move to an area and shoot four enies, move four feet and do the same. repeat that about five times and fight some kinda boss, maybe add some move where you duck behind something. it cant be. in this day and age we need a game where you're thrown into an area with enemies everywhere, and you can look aruond in all directions not just be stuck with one perspective. sure you cant really move or side step but atlest be able to do 360 turns while being pushed into the next area. i hate that whole shoot a few enemies and move from point a to point b while the enemies in the next area just wait until you're in your position to shoot you. NO. you get a few seconds in one safe zone behind a crate or something, shoot whatever you can and are forced to move on, but in the next area where you're ducked behind something to dogde a few hits you can actually turn around and hit whatever you missed. while you're being forced into the next area there has to be some activitey going on, you have to be able to hit and run. there has to be different paths to take depending on what you do, what you shoot. what are some popular arcade shooters...area51 and games like that. you almost always have some kinda warehouse where there are things shooting at you from behind crates and machines and you can blow barrels up...well what if blowing up a barrel blocks your exit? you have to go down a second path that changes the way you go on to stage 2. it cant be the same linear rail shooters we have in arcades. i dont want House of the Dead on my revolution unless its a different experience from that of an arcade. this new controller opens up many possiblities to add to a genre like this and it could very well reinvent the genre.
what i'd LOVE to see thogh is Sin & Punishment....that was the best rail shooter ever, it was like starfox if you were forced to run across Corneria

I'd argue we haven't.  Puzzle games are pretty much still just manipulating blocks in a play area.

The problem with rail shooters is that they're short.  If they have a good difficultly and don't let you save they're fine but these days devs are reluctant to do that.  Basically I just don't trust most devs to do a rail shooter right anymore.  The industry has just forgotten how to make good arcade style games.

I saw the scans on that endangered blog or whatever. Obviously can't post them because it infringes or besmirches someone's rights. Whatever. Anyways, the in-game screens look way better then anything the Xbox ever put out. They may even look as fine as most 360 games out right now. So people can shut about that now.

We knew the Revolution was going to have FPS' out the wazoo. It just makes too much sense. I could see myself getting this game as it will be at launch and my standards for games are far lower then later on. For example, I bought Feel the Magic. I did NOT buy the sequel. I had better things to play. However, this game alone will not sell me on the system. I want the new ideas, the new genres, the new EVERYTHING. In a perfect world, Red Steel will just be a side dish to a couple of main courses at launch. But I'm interested.

I also kinda want to see this game ported six months after it's released on the Rev. Then we can find out if this type of game is more fun with the Revmote or a traditional controller.

A good on rail shooter would be something like the Panzer Dragoon series, personally not one of my favorite genres but fun once in a while.

From the description, sword fighting with the Revmote is integral to the gameplay. That wouldn't port cleanly at all.

As for the game, this is a FPS. It's not on rails. One of the features mentioned was being able to push objects over and hide behind them for cover. Which rail shooter allows you to do that?

I'm glad the first Rev game shown off was this. How are the Sony and MS fanbois going to dismiss Nintendo's system for being aimed at children now?

If that happens, then I say "Excellent."

What bad could come out of the Rev being known as THE console for FPSs? Nintendo will still be making new and sometimes unusual franchises which will change the way gaming is done. That wouldn't change, but 3rd parties would be supporting Nintendo without Nintendo basically having to beg or offer some incentives for them to make games for the Rev.

I know it's a tired rhetoric, but I'll say it again: the PS2 won because they had all the most of everything. This allowed for many excellent titles to be produced for the console because, when most games come out for the console, the chances of great ones is dramatically increased.

Having your console known for a genre which notably always sells would be the best thing Nintendo could ever have going for itself. It's up to Nintendo to push the limits of the controller, but if Nintendo has created a console which 3rd parties flock to and develop mature titles for, what's the down side, exactly?

You need the big selling genres: FPS, racing, sports, etc. and once those are established as a base, new genres will be born when other developers pick the Rev for their new ideas when they see how strong of a presence it has.

Why does everyone completely dismiss the "shell" as if it hasn't already been announced?  Why port the game to see if it plays better on a regular controller when the revmote can also be a regular controller?

Whats stopping the developers from adding an alternate control method for those that don't want to play that way? They offer different button setups and d-pad/j-stick functions other than the standard default. Why not offer "action" controls and "standard" controls("action" being the default obviously)?
Whats stopping them from actually having a standard and action mode combined since the 3-d movement would still be active even with the shell attached. Remember, Nintendo is going to be the "and" company this time around. So why not be able to do it this way "and" that way too?

This game looks great, and the descriptions only make it that much better.
Maybe the Rev will be swamped with FPS's but I think that having it swamped with some games will challenge developers to make other games even better. =

Also, maybe I'm the only one, but i hate the idea of the shell controller, and I wish Nintendo wouldn't make it. It feels to me like, hey we're not sure this is going to work so here take this too. I say stick with the freehand controller, don't give the devs and players an excuse to be lazy, and not be innovative.

Take this game who's name I already forgot, imagine if they just decided eh, lets make it for the shell instead... then it's not so amazing anymore, it'd just be another fps, and it probably wouldn't have sword figting in it, as fpsword fighting is kind of akward with a standard controller, even if it still using the motion sensing of the revmote.  eh, maybe i'm wrong but i'd rather see nintendo just stick to their guns and say, this is what is, love it, or hate it, where going to make it great.

Rail shooters? How about more duck hunt type games i'm serious I can't wait to dl duck hunt on the VC.

Oh yeah and stop hating on Madden. As a football fan, I love the game, although I only buy it every other year, cuz I do see it as kind of non-improving, although the past 3 years have seen major gameplay changes.

the shell is probably necessary for the VC games. I would hope that other than Annual Madden Port we don't see much use for it.

I hope we don't need it either, but I hope that there is atleast alternate control methods for those that would rather play specific games in a more traditional way.

Just like some upcoming games(Z:TP) will have "enhaced" control when played on the Rev, the option is there, but you don't have to use it.

I don't think the shell will be quite what people are picturing.
I mean it's just not necessary with the analog attachment which even has its own shoulder buttons.
Why bother with a complete shell of a standard controller when MOST of the ingredients are already there? It doesn't make any sense.
Basically I think it will be a small attachment for the Revmote that basically just consists of a few extra face and shoulder buttons.
Between that, the existing buttons on the Revmote, and the analog attachment, you've basically got a standard controller split into two which is necessary to allow for the motion control.

To the individuals that is concerned about 60fps, I too have this concern, but really if it can maintain a smooth 30fps I'll be happy. Even alot of the 360 games have trouble breaking a constant 30fps.
