I'll believe it when I try it for myself, just like the DS.

Until then, it's all nonsense.

Does it really matter if the REV has one more secret or not?

I don't know about you, but I am pretty content with the REV. Much more than say, the PS3 or 360. If Nintendo gave us detailed information about the things that they've already mentioned then I'd be even more content.

How does the Virtual Console work?
What games are planned for the service?
How does online in general work?
What does the HUD look like?
How will games really play?
What developers are making games?
What will launch look like?
What is the price, release date, and name of the console?
How will the console be bundled? Will it have both the nunchaku and shell attachment?
Will the DS and REV connect to each other? If so, what are the possibilities, and what is actually being done?
What does the shell look like? How will it play? Are there any other planned attachments

If they answered those questions at E3, then I would be the happiest gamer alive.

Honestly, who needs another secret?

Well, of course they're going to have a secret or two left to reveal.  They've got to wow people at E3 with something (- other than the extreme likelihood of several playable games, which I guess would be big).

Whether it's major (surprise!  HD!  Awesome online service interface! etc.) or just confirming what has already been widely speculated (what developers are expected to be on board, what characters are in the next SSB, which games will have DS-Rev. connectivity, if any) is the question.

It's nice to be optimistic and have something to look forward to (I'm going to E3, actually...  ), part of me doesn't think it's going to be of megaton-proportions...though if they ever had something so bold to announce, E3 would be where they'd do it.

With the virtual console and unique controller, if it's big enough to top those, you'd think they'd rev up the hype machine about their "secret" a little more.

You know what is ironic about ThePerm's response is that we all know that the PSOne started life as an SNES attachment.  Nintendo might have some contractual rights that would allow them an easier time actually having backward compatibility with the PSOne.

not really, the Play Station that Nintendo and Sony co developed is NOT THE SAME Playstation that was released. it was  a SNES compatible CD upgrade, just like Sega CD, it was not the same system that was released. If Nintendo had any rights to that they woudl have already claimed them.

Ok here's another theory.
It's been confirmed that the REV is very similar to the Gamecube and that the initial dev kits were basically just Gamecube's with the new controller attached. This is allowing third-party developers to start designing Rev games even before the new hardware is final.
But perhaps this means that Nintendo itself has had launch titles in development longer than anyone could have imagined. Perhaps they started developing them on a suped up Gamecube with a prototype of the new controller well over a year ago. Could we see a plethora of AAA, polished launch titles that normally would not grace a Nintendo console until its second or even third year right from the start?
Everyone is expecting the REV to launch with one or two major titles but be mostly tech-demos and promises of bigger games to come. But the big surprise could be that Nintendo is sitting on the best prepared launch line-up in gaming history just waiting to reveal it at the right moment and shock everyone.

Aren't the GC zelds and DS zelda slated for the same fall 2006 release? that just screams DS-Rev connectivity to me. Maybe they've actually made it worthwhile this time around, especially since you don't need a $20 cable to do it.
That would also open up to allow GBA-GC connectivity using the DS-Rev connection, that'd be cool, but again, not jump up in the air spectacular, like a PPU or something along those lines would be.

I concur.

This would be the greatest surprise of all.

I think it's doubtful we'll guess it. Nintendo has a tendancy to surprise us. But just so we cover all the obvious (and Big) surprises in this thread:

Suppose the iTunes analogy is deeper than it seems. Suppose Nintendo is positioning the DS as a sort of iPod peripheral that can take the VC games on the go. Add some sort of permanent storage to one of the slots on the DS and you've got a really compelling feature that would probably cause an impressive stir at E3.

It's one thing trying to leverage the Gamecube's dubious success into the next generation with things like TP's Revmote control, but what if the Revolution could leverage the runaway success of the DS?

This is a better way to leverage connectivity, IMO. The GBA connectivity added some nice possibilities to the Cube, but there was comparatively little about it to induce a GBA-owner to buy a Cube. Making the DS "the iPod of VC" not only provides the Rev owner with a way to take his VC titles on the go... it opens up a huge new feature for existing DS owners, and the very real possibility that an existing DS owner might be willing to shell out a couple hundred bucks for a Rev specifically to gain access to the VC library.

Then, once they've already bought the Rev anyhow, it's going to be much easier to get them to buy games for it too.

To me, this SHOULD be Nintendo's goal: to get it's success in the handheld market to translate over to the console market. Tons of GBA owners didn't own a Cube. While it's true some of those people might not have owned a console at all, there's got to be a huge group (millions) of people who owned a GBA and owned a home console other than the Cube.

I concur with the VC for DS.

To tell you the truth I really doubt that any of the games have been intentionally developed for more then 2 years max.  Then on the flipside there is going to be more polish to the games by default because it's a known architecture.  I think that will come into play a little more then the time factor.  Out of the gate we'll probably be getting what would be comparatively 1.5 gen games.  Not quiet up to where you would traditional peg games as being 2nd gen.  There will be control bugs.  Now on the flipside I could be totally wrong and one of the games will come out so far ahead of the others that you would think its from the future. (You know like Smash Brothers.  Graphic wise that game even holds up now with no real problems.  That's unheard of for a launch game.)

A PPU.  I could easily see Nintendo doing that.  They don't exactly shy from specialized hardware.

Actually I would laugh if the day comes and the biggest news we get is that the Rev disc are, in fact, a propriety disc that holds as much as HD-DVD without the licensing costs.  Actually while we're in left field why not holographic.  InPhase just broke the data density record with 500 gigs per square inch.  Square would hava a hayday with that sort of space.  No graphics engine to speak of.  Just prerendered pictures of every possibility.

Though I wish they would just go ahead and release it already.

Nintendo would be stupid to ignore the relationship between the DS and the REV. I want to see the VC become a fully realized feature with a robust system.

Playing Sega and Nintendo games on your DS, on the go? What could be better?

Also, Nintendo has been developing games since the first the controller was realized. When was that? I don't know. However, I do know for a fact that Camelot announced that they were making a REV game in an interview shortly after the release of Mario Tennis.

Wasn't that like 2 years ago?

Good idea. This would fit very well with their desire to emulate Apple as well.

Genesis games could end up being problematic on the DS because the resolutions to most of those games are 320 x 224.  Unless they find a way to decently scale it down to 256 it could end up being a mess.

Now that I think about it, the DS's hybernation ability is a huge ace in the hole for this kind of thing. You can get within range of your Rev, download a game to your DS (and your friends can too) and go from there. Closing the DS is akin to pausing the game and uses so little power that you could carry a game for quite some time before needing to recharge.

I really hope that if the people in this forum(no offense) could think of something so great and yet so simple as using the DS to play VC games on the go Nintendo would also think and implement that idea. Talk about disappointment if they don't and mad props to jasonditz(i believe he was first i could be wrong) for thinking of it.

Has anyone unlocked proven chryogenics methods? Cuz if you have call me up, I want to sleep until e3 so I can stop anticipating what's in store.

Unless Jason didn't play AC, then he kinda borrowed it.

AC on the GC allowed you to upload some NES games to your GBA and play them on the go so we at least know that Nintendo has considered the possibility in the past.
