What GO could mean if true
« on: March 24, 2006, 01:20:57 AM »
engaget's article

Most have probably seen this.  The yet to be proven fake or real logo for the system code named Revolution.

Some have speculated it might be Nintendo's online plan.  It has been said it means the number five in japanese.  But do not forget that it is also the name of a board game that I believe the former pres of the company enjoys playing.

It also suggests portability, action, movement, and the appearance of the letters GO is similar to the way Nintendo designed the DS logo with an image of the dual screens using the letter o at the end of Nintendo.  The image was a pun on the mechanic and if this GO really is the final name of the system, the look of the text for the word GO may give us some hint at what Nintendo has planned at E3.  Did I not read a quote from Iwata yesterday saying the biggest secret has yet to be revealed?  How is that so?  Game On.

Nintendo is going to have a really hard time trying to out-do the GC logo, the thing was just mindblowing, its a G and a C all in a Cube, the greatest logo Ive ever seen.

Talon:  Ultimate Brain Games for DS will be WiFi enabled, and have a version of GO to play.

You're mistaken.

That's clearly "Nintendo 60".

Seriously, it's a terrible name. Nintendo "On" was better than "Go". Naming your console after a verb is a terrible idea.

I would of like the GC logo better if it used more flourescent colors and more contrast in colors. Such as black and neon blue....

That said, it was genious.

I like that D-pad logo alot. It should be the virtual console logo.

I could have sworn that Go was Japanese for five as in Nintendo's fifth home console. As for console names who knows with Nintendo. They insisted that the DS was a codename and decided to keep it at the last minute.

When you have it load up to cutesy "boo doo doo" sound effects every time you turn the console on it loses some of its effect.  It was a nice logo though.

Also, the logo seems to run counter to their blue ocean strategy.

If the Rev is intended to make games feel more approachable, why is the logo formed up of D-pads, which are, in essence, the exact opposite of what Nintendo wants to say their console represents?

It'd make sense for the virtual console, but I don't think it works for the Rev itself.

Ian just remember to hold down z whenever you start your cube and the problem is solved!

See Nintendo thought of everything.

I'm sure Nintendo was like:

ok now the machine takes this long to boot what do we do.
I know rotate the cube in and make noise.

GO is clever.

Better than Super, 64, GameCube, Dolphin, or StarCube.  I just wanted to say StarCube.

The way I understood this, it was an older Japanese ad that signified that this is Nintendo's fifth console (since "Go" is the Japanese word for "Five").

Within 20 minutes of the console launch, though, American gamers will be calling it the "Nintendo Go buy a PS3".

I like how "GO" isn't clever, and all those names you listed as worse, are better. Even StarCube.
