A Family Guy game in the works
« on: March 07, 2006, 09:12:38 AM »
2K games (take 2) announced that they have secured the rights to publish a family guy game for the PS2,Xbox,GBA.  Its supposed to focus on Peter,Stewie and Brian.

Now my question is how the hell are they going to make this game work without being bad. Just look at how many tries it took to make a simpsons game good and that developer made it a quasi GTA style of game. Its going to be sad how this game is going to fall flat on its face.

"Now my question is how the hell are they going to make this game work without being bad."

Do it the 2D era way.  Make the game a platformer or an arcade beat-em-up that features a lot of familiar characters but is only loosely based on the source material.  For a frame of reference see The Simpsons arcade game or any Capcom Disney related game for the NES.

If I was in charge of the GBA version I would make it a shameless rip-off of The Lost Vikings with Peter, Stewie and Brian all having unique abilities and you switch between the three characters to solve puzzles and get past obstacles.  Family Guy always has really crazy stories so it wouldn't be hard to make something up to justify the gameplay.

One problem with Ian's suggestion, Lost Vikings was a hard game.  It took a lot of thinking and trial and error to beat.  The majority of Family Guy's audience won't find a game like that appealing.

They'd probably be best off making a rip off of Simpsons: Hit & Run, which was a rip off of GTA (which is published by Take 2, so it all works out in the end).
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Heh, I don't care what genre this game falls into as long as I can use Peter to fight that Chicken.

Azn its actually "Chicken.. gave me.. a bad coupon.."

I don't think a Family Guy GTA clone would do to well since we haven't seen enough of their world like we have of the Simpsons's world.
A Family Guy Fighting game would be pretty cool.

I do have a feeling that this game won't turn out to good.

I have my doubts as well.

A SSB-style fighting game for Family Guy could work very well, what with the range of characters they have, including greats like the Giant Chicken, the Evil Monkey, the Greased-up Deaf Guy, Adam West, etc.

Quagmire's moveset would be hilarious...

So you're saying that Family Guy viewers are too stupid to play Lost Vikings and making a ripoff game of another ripoff game is a good idea?

How about instead of a single game we make it a bunch of mini-games... like catchiing the greased up deaf guy, feng shui-ing the organs in the eviscerated camel (ooh... that'd be great with a touchscreen), or putting smokes in the pocket of the torn denim jacket of the moody drifter action figures.

Well it could be an easier clone.  Personally I would make it as hard as Lost Vikings because, f*ck it, the sort of morons who buy licenced crap would buy the game no matter what so I might as well make it enjoyable for people who actually have some gaming tastes.  Games are too easy today anyway so a challenge would do them some good.

i say make this game in three parts

stewies part: trying to kill lois, there would be mini games platform levels, and puzzles that would be traps for lois to fall in, of course she doesn't die until a couple hours in

brians part: trying to bang lois, as any fan knows, brian really wants to do this. it would be the same thing mini games, platform levels, and puzzles, either trying to get lois drunk enough, or perhaps tricking her into thinking brian is mel gibson, george clooney, or some other "male hottie".

peters part: just do his life. dealing with stewie (have the option to help or stop him from killing lois) dealing with brian (same option as stewie) getting a job, the could do the fishing thing, jousting, working at pawtucket brewery, getting lois in the mood after trying to be killed by stewie and banged by brian. again mini games, platform levels, and puzzles.

i don't see any other way to make the game good, and funny.
Silly monkeys; give them thumbs they make a club and beat their brother down. How they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an a eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here.

I think I read a review on PGC of some other licensed game that was basically a dumbed down Lost Vikings clone.
