Revolution Package Mocks
« on: February 21, 2006, 10:52:46 PM »
These are fanmade, but I REALLY like them. And judging from the DSL packaging, they could be quite close. IMHO some catchy packaging is an important part of a new mage for Nintendo. The brown cardboard must go. Apple's packaging, for instance, is just paper and plastic, but it stands out and is very memorable. Image isn't important for games, but we all know it matters in marketing.

I'm not sure what I like best, they're all catchy. I don't like the light blue, though the idea would be ok if reworked. My ideal is a mix of the black one and the white one. Basically the white one in black. It'd be a GREAT visual signature for the system. Only ones I hate are the last ones, which are fugly.

I don't think the boxes will have a handle. That didn't really work out with the cube.

My favorite is the first one, apart from that old revolution logo which must be elimated.

I like the box shape of the last one.

The blue one could be good, if she got rid of the blue (I like the simple-logo-and-one-or-two-parts-from-the-console thing she has going). Though it's perhaps a bit too reminiscent of the 360 packaging.

I love the fourth one.  I think that's a great idea, to just have a picture of the blue LED.  Then the rest of the box would be the same color as the Rev inside.

The fourth one's pretty tight. I'd rather the blue line go horizontal rather than vertical though.

As for the handle on boxes. From my experiences, japanese people LOVE it when there is a handle to carry important tech in.

For example, I have ordered two laptops from Panasonic and Sony in the last year and both came with a built in handle.

I love the all black with the single blue line. It's simple, like PS2 and Xbox's boxes were. The blue box reminds me too much of PS2.

The XCircle box has a handle so why shouldn't the Rev's?

A LOT of tech stuff has handles. All of Apple's laptops do, for example.

I don't like handles, but it doesn't really matter. I like the black one, it'd be awesome if the box came like, that great to add to my collection. I still have my 64, and cube box. I unfortunately never bought an NES or SNES I got them both second hand at the same time. Wish I couldv'e gotten the boxes though :-(.

Well, the handles are important for boxes of that size. Carrying a box of that size around without a handle is a nightmare and nothing you want to do when your car is too far away (or, $deity forbid, you use public transport).

small console should translate to small box.

I like the black one and blue one because they don't show a picture of the console itself on the front.  I like it when they do that.  It gives the console this mystery to it.  You don't need to know what it looks like because you know it's awesome.  It's like having a treasure chest and you can't wait to open it.

Both the PS2 and Xbox had this design and I found it naturally attracted my eye in the store.  What's in that cool box?  Now I knew but it still always grabbed my focus.  Something just stood out.

Mary Jane: The Rev is the size of three DVD cases stacked, then you add the stand, power cord and brick, controller, AV cables and controller accessories. That box won't be small.

Ian: The PS2 and XBox weren't particularly good looking, either. The PS2-7000x has a picture of the console straight from the front (i.e. tiny looking) since that thing had a look that worked as a selling point. I don't think they need to hide the Revolution.

I just mean it won't be so big you can't carry it. It'll probably be the smallest console box ever, the stand in small, the brick might be replaced by the stand, and controller is small, but you're right it's not going to like fit in the palm of your hand or anything.

I believe it should have on the front of the package, opposite side of the handle, should shhow the front of the rev with the blue light on.  Then on the top of the box have "Nintendo Revolution" with the contoller under it.  All indicating cool lighting, preferable like the lightsours was coming from the Front Right Bottom Corner.  Then on the bottom would be the obligatory game clips and hole for the barcode.

I still think they should have pics of the NES, SNES, and N64 on the side with the controller.  Might catch a few more eyes.

I think it going to be the normal black/white backaging they usually have with game examples on the back and a picture of the system of the back. I don't think they will change their packaging precepts after 20 some years.

Except for the PSone (the remake) box, that was tiny.
