Oh, Nintendo Power. How silly.
« on: February 13, 2006, 01:58:52 PM »
Nintendo Power always used to come later than they do now, but at least they were consistent.  I subscribed from Jan. 1991 (Mega Man III) to Dec. 2001 (SSBM) and for most of that 11-year streak they always came after the 20th of the month they were meant for.  After resubscribing to get the Zelda Collectors Edition Disc, I noticed they now come a LOT sooner...like on the 20th of a month, I might get an issue meant for the month after the next.

But it makes it harder to tell if they're late or if I'm missing an issue, now that I occasionally get them missed entirely, which was never the case way back when.

So I missed issue #200...or so I thought.  I got #201 and I'm, like, where's the conclusion to the Top 200?  Where's the cool poster?  And immediately went to report the issue as missing on their web site, which is now not an unfamiliar process, unfortunately.  The next day I got it by regular mail.  I'm like, something doesn't seem right here...I get #200 the day AFTER #201 and via regular mail.  First-class mail doesn't even go that fast.

Maybe it's not Nintendo Power but the mail service.  As I suspected, I've now got another issue #200.  >_<  I guess I get another cool poster but I hope this doesn't count against my free replacements if they happen to lose another one this year...

I hear the same thing happened to Berto.  He got a current month issue before the previous issue.  Rediculously late.  Maybe a couple of the sled dogs died.

Are you making fun of the Canadian postal service?

And I'll have you know they don't use sled dogs.  We're much more modern than that.  Polar bears drive mail trucks.

I think the same thing happened with me, but it was for the free three issues so I just shrugged it off.  Back in the day when I subscribed the issues would actually come very early =o

Berto's deal was in the last couple months.  Dolphins are deployed along the California coast.

So yeah, I'm totally getting free EGM and Gamepro magazines by the armful for no reason at all.
Kinda awesome, except I throw the Gamepros away immediately and only keep the EGMs for the Hsu and Chan comics in the back.

My brother subscribes to Shonen Jump.  Supposedly the deal is that with his first issue he gets this rare Yu-Gi-Oh! card, that blue guy, Obelisk.  Now I don't know if this is the case for everyone, but so far, he's gotten this card with every issue.  Wonder if they're trying to give them away?  They're certainly not rare, then, are they?

When in doubt, blame the postal service.

True story.  I got a call from someone about three weeks ago thanking me for the X-mas present I sent them.  They said the postal service delivered it a couple weeks late for something reason.  I said, I didn't send you anything, check the year.  Wait for it ... ... ... Turns out it was a missing package that I mailed in December of 2004.  It took the postal service thirteen months to deliver it.  Arg.

I missed an issue of EGM and I when I reported it, they told me they didn't have anymore issues left, but they were kind enough to extend my subscription by a month.

I thought I was missing an issue of Game Informer so I requested a replacement and they told me that that issue was still currently being sent out.  The way the magazines are sent out, like March issue at the end of January beginning of February I get confused at what I have received and what I haven't.
