I just sat through the Doom movie...
« on: February 04, 2006, 03:12:08 PM »
My roommate brought home the DOOM movie on DVD today.

It wasn't *HORRIBLE*, like I expected.  But it wasn't good.  It also reminds me why I fear a Legend of Zelda movie.

Video Store.  It's handy at times.

Doom? Is that a Nintendo documentary?

Close. Masters of Doom was a documentary about the company that offered Nintendo to port Super Mario Bros. to the PC (a feat that was previously believed to be impossible because the PC couldn't do scrolling) and even showed them a working demo of the first level. Nintendo obviously declined so the company made the Commander Keen series instead.

Oh really? It all makes sense now. Commander Keen was done by Apogee. Apogee was run by Scott Miller. Scott Miller badmouthed the Nintendo Revolution in his blog. He's still bitter about being rejected by them!

If you're talking about the top blog on the page, he hardly bad-mouthed them. He said they would come third, but he can't really comment because he hasn't tried out the controller yet.

You know, I think I figured out why the DOOM movie was so unliked.
No one expected it to be *good* from the beginning.  But it wasn't bad in a cheesy Wizard or Super Mario Brothers kinda way - it was just a mediocre space/action flick.  Unlike movies that are so bad you want to watch 'em again in order to laugh at them, the DOOM movie wasn't quite that bad - but it's not good enough to watch again.  They should have just made a movie from the DOOM Comic.  I'd watch that again.
