New Zelda for GBA Announced

I was reading IGN, and they have an article with Miyamoto and a Dutch Journalist.  It appears this game was in development since around 2001, but attention was focused on Four Swords.  IGN says that the game might be shown at the Electronic Expo in May.

As far as I know it's origional, the article says somewhere that it's the first handheld Zelda since Oracles.  Or something like that.

Well, all we can do is hope.

I wonder if they'll keep doing the two version Zelda. (AKA Red and BLue)

Funny you should say that.  Capcom is making another series of Zelda games for Gameboy Advance, which is probably what the above is referring to.

Yeah, i thought that the two Oracle games were a bit too easy.  I remember getting stuck on Lttp a lot.  I still had fun though.  They need a better storyline though.  Even though you do fight Ganon in the games it seems like they just did a half ass job of putting him into the story.

Considering this is a GBA game and has been in development since 2001 does anyone else think it's done or pretty close to being done? I realize they put it on hold to make Four Swords but I've heard Four Swords is pretty short so I can't imagine they had to take to long of a break from the new game to work on it. Hopefully will get some pics or more info soon but knowing Nintendo they won't show anything until E3. By the way considering how long this game has been in the works I've been wondering if we might see some GC to GBA connectivity. I realize that there is already some connectivity with Wind Waker by itself but there could be some more stuff with new game.

Link's Awakening is coming out in spring, at least that is what risck told me.
Fry's Grandma in the past-"Killed., In an atomic Blast.... No sir I don't take much comfort in the fact the trigger function worked perfectly."
Fry-"There there, if it makes you feel any better, his body was vaporized, so there's no chance of him coming back as a zombie."
Fry's Grandma-"I'm no

You mean a re-release right? Who is risck? That would be cool if that's true because the GBA was my first Game Boy so I never got a chance to play Link's Awakening. At least not on a handheld anyway.

What do you mean you never got a chance?  The GBA is backwards compatible.  Link's Awakening DX can still be found new in most stores.

If Nintendo re-releases this title they are officially the laziest bastards in the world.  Link's Awakening is a f*cking Gameboy game and was later ported to the GBC.  Everybody who owns a GBA can already play it.  What's next?  Ports of the Oracle games and Pokemon Red/Blue?

Well I'd really be upset if they ported Link's Awakening.  But if it's been in development since 2001 then it can't be.  How long could it take to port from GBC to GBA...

Okay, I realized risck is Rick and that Link's Awakening is A Link to the Past. You got that from this thread right RahXephon? Well Rick made one of the first mistakes I've ever seen him make. Triforce of the Gods is the Japanese name of A Link to the Past not Link's Awakening. Haven't you heard of a little game called A Link to the Past/Four Swords for the GBA? It's already been out in the US since December but won't be out in Japan until March 14(spring) . You can and should read more about the game by clicking here.

I have to say I'm really pissed at which ever magazine wrote this garbage. I constantly find people in forums saying the same thing as RahXephon and it's impossible to explain to most of them that the mag is wrong since the usual response is, "It was in a magazine so that means it's right".

To Ian Sane: I haven't seen a copy of Link's Awakening at any of my local stores since sometime before the GBA was released.

since capcom was in charge of the four swords game on the gba zelda,
why wouldn't the new game be based on the four swords game with the same graphics and gameplay
of course they would have to do some work on it but i think it could turn out good
i guess we just have to wait and see..... i am guessing this game will be shown at e3

I also hope Capcom includes some multiplayer feature like Four Swords.  Can't wait to see some footage of the game at E3.

"I have to say I'm really pissed at which ever magazine wrote this garbage"
Well i doubted the stuff was true, i just needed confrimation.  It was from Game Informer and only had a little block.  The magazine has always been worng, but i needed to know if it was wrong, so i wrote the article and waited for the attacks from the posters.  Anyway, i am surprised Rick was wrong too.  I wouldn't have been too surprised if it was a port of links awakening, Nintendo is having fun with their ports, plus they could have put 4Swourds on their to work on marketing that.
Anyway, i am glad to know it truly is a NEW GAME.  That is much better than a port, unless it was, as someone said, a polished version of the first 2.  That would be nice to have, as many people, especially new gamers, should see what started it all.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having a port of the first two Zelda games. Actually I've been hoping they would do it for a long time now. What I would like to see is the first two games ported as is as and having remakes of both games all on the same cart. Non of the Mario crap were they release all the games separately at full price. It would be great to play those two on the go and to have the choice of playing the original versions or the updated ones all on the same cart.

I would really love to see a zelda compilation, put 'em all on a GC disk or something, wouldn't it be great to have all those games, like a mario all stars thing.

But back on topic, have you guys heard anything else about a new original zelda game for the GBA?  Thats what I want!

Does anyone have any news as of lately?

I think I read on IGN that Miyamoto commented shortly after E3 that Capcom was in fact still working on a Zelda game for the GBA and it wasn't either of the ones we were shown at E3. So this means that Capcom is probably working on a good old fashioned single player Zelda game.

Also about the Dengeki thing isn't that the same mag that got the Megaton crap started? The names sound similar not to mention the way they talk about this game is almost identical to the way that other mag talked about the Megaton announcement.

Anyway if it's not the same mag and this info isn't bull I can think of only one series that would live up to what they are saying and it's Zelda. Also from what Miyamoto said Capcom has been working on this new Zelda GBA game since sometime in 2001 when they temporarily stopped working on it to make Four Swords. We haven't heard any definite info about this game so if it is coming out I would imagine it would probably be by the end of the year. With nearly 3 years of development time for a GBA game I would expect that it would be quite a huge and wonderful game. Something that should definitely live up to what  Dengeki is saying.
