You think so? Or are you just thinking for everyone else? Why is the combination of Mario & friends and a board game, Baseball, Tennis, or Soccer not a "dream" situation? Please do tell me, if you're Nintendo and going to do a baseball game without Major League teams and players and without using a Nintendo franchise because you personally don't want to "Milk" them. Who are you going to use for the game teams and characters?

Honestly, if they objectivly, not subjectivly, are not so good, why do they continue to sell well? Are people just idiots and buying the game for no particular reason?

"In your 3 examples Ian, the second two require cooperation from another company, so I guess I can see how they are 'different' from sports games, but Nintendo and Tetris doesn't."

Tetris isn't owned by Nintendo so there is still cooperation between different companies for both franchises to co-exist.

Hey if Nintendo and Tetris are friends again does that mean the old Nintendo published Tetris games will be available in the Rev download service?

Mario Party truly is a great game.  The best party game ever created.  The only problem is that every year for the past seven years, (not to mention the GBA one...wasn't there a GBA one?) we've more or less seen the same game with a slightly different title.  It's things like Mario Party that the Revolution threatens to change, which is a good thing.

EDIT: And I agree with Mantidor.  The only reason many people know about Samus at all is Super Smash Bros.

Now I could be wrong on this, but I was under the assumption that no one owned Tetris because no one can prove they were the creators.  Is it not true that any company can make and release a tetris game?

As far as I know, the person who created tetris is a well known fact. Some russian dude, of course, but due to soviet rule at the time (or was it just the communist rule in general) he was not allowed to have ownership of the game or something.

edit: I looked it up in Wikipeida, Alexy Pajitnov is his name. It also lists all of the copyright contravsery too.

Alexei Pajintnov (not sure about the spelling) is responsible for the original Tetris design.  I don't really know how much ownership he has over it, but I had the impression that THQ was somehow "in control" - otherwise why hasn't there been a Tetris game from any other company until now?

We have had 5 Mario Party games and at least 6 Mario sports games on Nintendo's various consoles this generation.  I don't care anymore.  Nintendo-themed Tetris is something relatively new.
That's my opinion, not yours.

There have been 7 Mario Party games on home consoles, 1 on the GBA, and 1 that was a set of playing cards and used a game board and the e-Reader (I have it because I found it very cheap and thought "what the hell").
I must find a way to use "burninate" more in my daily speech.

The whole Mario thing is nonsense. This is a NINTENDO themed Tetris, not Mario Tetris. It's called Tetris DS for a reason. Using cool retro stuff to spice up Tetris is GREAT.

Tetris online? Not even Lumines or Meteos can compete with that!

Is this part of Nintendo's non-gamer strategy? I know for the hardcore like the PGC'ers they'll be in a pickle since they may not be able to afford Hunters and Tetris DS on the same day... But for the non-gamers, its almost a no-brainer.
Is 3/20/06 a magic day or something? What else will Nintendo release that day?

WFC is looking good. But can the 3rd parties step up to the plate and provide great, free, online-enabled goodness?  [/off topic]

i'm totally confused how this game will play out. will it be tetris and you watch a video
of mario on the top or what?

Touch tetris doesn't seem to complex.

Do spin move on block to spin in the direction.
Drag the block to where you want.

So top screen shows other players intresting. IS that 12?
1-12 online? Or only 1-4?
Tetris is simple so 12 shouldn't be hard to do.

I'm so confused in how this plays however. Is that a cursor, hold and NEXT as settings ! AWESOME.

I hope it has all the modes of NEW TETRIS for n64 that had tons of great modes.
Tetrisphere is great but I doubt it will be with this since the developer who made that is no longer alive I think. (H20)   2 months away seems great for me. Looks like Tetris DX is going to be sold now since this will replace it.

Cross's fingers that it has the original TETRIS Song, and mario, zelda songs too.

By the way on the issue of MILKING NAMEBRANDS lets just stop all this stupid fighting.

Companies will use whatever product they know will sell. If they know something has a proven track record of sales than more likely they will use that something.
You can say EA milks madden games, they are basically the same game just with a few more options
but not really $50 upgrade. Capcom milks Resident Evil, and Microsoft will milk HALO, Namco with Pac Man etc.
Companies want to make money and making new franchises is risky so they rather milk known games into different situations hoping sales will continue for that. Look at pysconauts reviewers love it but it sold poor. If the same game were called FInal Fantasy Adventures and took out the original characters and put Final Fantasy characters it would of sold better because of the final fantasy namebrand.

Look for Nintendo the gamecube didn't do so well in sports games. It was losing big names and overall the big names didn't sell. So a mario game would in theory sell better than a new Baseball sim. LOOK at Pennet Chase where did that go?

Soul Calibur 2 proved non-exclusive games can sell good with Nintendo characters.
So they did it again with NBA Street 3, SSX on tour, Fight Night 2. Did it help sales?
who knows but would the game sold less if they didn't do it?

"milking" is part of the world as we know it. No need to fight over it, just accept it as fact PERIOD.

It might be a bit like Puzzle Fighter, in that how well you do in-game relates to like uh, how far Mario makes it on the top screen or something.

Good Lord, the Nintendo DS library is crushing everything right now.  Only the DS could have Metroid Hunters and Tetris DS, two must-own titles, releasing on the same day.

This game is going to rule.  The screenshots look nice and old-school...just the way this grizzled gaming veteran likes 'em.

You know Nintendo is already having problems with the number of units they are selling. Now in less then two months they will have two big name titles coming out on the same day. I remember when the parents bought the gameboy for their children and ended up being the ones that played it because of the bundled Tetris. This may bring some of those players back.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

Anyone else noticed there seems to be both HOLD and ITEM boxes in the screenshots?  I know Tetris DX had a hold function, (not sure about any of the THQ releases) but I believe items are a first for Tetris.

I wonder what the Ghost does.  Steal an opponent's block?  Makes the current falling block disappear?

Also, did anyone else notice that the background (in the block area) on the bottom screen of the second screen shot is a screenshot from when you rescue the princess in the final castle of the original Super Mario Bros?  That's kind of ... odd.

Items were in Tetrinet AFAIK. 10 player online multiplayer, now THAT is new.

I hope it has a ToD mode... And perhaps, for good measure, Bastet.
