Topic: INTEREST CHECK in totally sweet forum-based death game

Pryopizm sprung this idea (called 'Mafia') on me that he's done on another forum. If I follow:

- People sign up
- Three people are selected to be the mob, one is the serial killer, one is the cop, the rest are innocent townies. If lots of people sign up, more roles can be added.
- Nobody knows who anybody else are, except the mob members know each other.
- The mob chooses people to die each day. The serial killer acts alone and takes out a guy every other day. The cop investigates and finds the role of a person each day (but runs the risk of having the mob "godfather" come up as innocent). Comedy ensues!
- Each day, the game hosts writes the goings on into a thrilling (or arousing) piece of fiction.
- Either the game ends when only the mob lives, the townies live, or the serial killer remains.

I read some of the threads and they were pretty awesome and sometimes hilarious. This thread is an interest check: if we get at least ten people to sign up, we'll try out a game. If LOTS of people sign up, we could add a second mob or more crazy roles.

Also, playing requires virtually NO WORK, only voting for people. That's all it requires.

But chances are you want to pay attention to who's voting how or just try to pull strings with people so that you can win.

This game really does kick ass, and the more the merrier.  It's already in its fifth iteration at the other forum and it's become incredibly popular.

This is a typical Day One in Mafia

This was the rules for Mafia II; I can't find the first Mafia, but it was essentially the same, only with one Mafia rather than two.  

I hosted Mafia IV, and this particular day was easily one of my favorites to narrate

I've actually played this game before, only not in the Internet.

The way I played there is no serial killer.  However, there is a doctor.  Every turn the doctor gets to choose a person to save.  If he happens to choose the person that the mafia choose to die that person doesn't die.

This is a pretty old game lolz

There have been iterations of all kinds of this game.  Including doing one with X-Men characters, Harry Potter, etc.

Just about anything can be used.  Obviously the first game should use the regular stuff but then the next ones could use others.

Also, the way I've played it is that there aren't specific person/s to find out the killer.  Instead, all the towns people get together and randomly accuse each other until they vote on someone they think might be the killer and then they get lynched.  They would do it on the forums itself obviously and more comedy would ensue.

But yeah, for this first one I'd play.

I'm not really sure how this is going to work online.  The best part about the game (at least in person) was looking a person in the eyes and trying to figure out if they were part of the mafia or not.

We'd always have someone just out and say "Listen guys, I'm the cop.  I know the mafia members are so-and-so and so-and-so.  Vote them out."  And then using my rules that person would plead to the doctor to save him during the next round (assuming he was still alive) because the mafia would be sure to try to get rid of him now that they knew he was the cop.

Usually it turned out that the guy claiming to be the cop was just lying.  He was either part of the mafia or he was the town idiot (a unofficial, but still amusing member of the community).

It was always fun when two people came out at the same time claiming to be the cop.

Point being, the game was all about bluffing and reading people, which can be very difficult to do online.

Also, there's no way of stopping people from cheating.  People aren't supposed to know who everyone is (with the exception of the mafia knowing who other mafia members are).  In my rules, it would take lots of the fun out of the game if the doctor knew who the cop was.

Okay, that's enough people, so I'll make an official signup thread and have Awesome McPryomizzle do the rules. I'm pretty sure roles will either be assigned randomly or hilariously by Pryo. Even I won't know them as I'm gonna play myself, if at all possible. I want to pwn nubs

What? That's how you WIN, is HILARIOUS SOCIAL ENGINEERING. Every time somebody contacts someone else and reveals themselves, that puts them in danger if the reveal themselves to the wrong side, and, well, I don't get your argument. Herk herk. I spent like hours reading the whole Mafia IV at that thar Tanooki forum, and I'm convinced that's how awesome it can be. WE'RE DOING IT ANYWAY HEHE
