Hooray for what looks to be yet another uncomfortable, awkward, and hand-cramp-producing controller, this time in an even more aesthetically displeasing and tinier package.

I dont know, I am reserving judgement on the sony controller, even if it does look like it would be extremely popular with the ladies wink wink.  One thing I have learned from this post though is to stay away from endgadget posts, I was reading through it and all it is is this

MS fanboy:  Sony sucks!!!!
Sony fanboy:  MS sucks!!!
MS fanboy: You suck!!!
Sony fanboy:  NO , You suck!!!
etcetera (sp?)

Sadly this doesnt mean sony's doom, people actually think that the dual shock is a nice controller, you have to give up faith in the gaming comunity after that.

I didn't think even Sega would be that dumb. Hooray for boomerang lovers, carpal tunnel for everyone else...

I've heard that the controller (& those similar) are actually pretty comfortable.

It has the left analog stick in the same place, and thus cannot be comfortable...Stupid, worthless Dual Shock...

Actually, the PS3 controller is like 1/2 or 1/4 of the size of a Dual Shock (it's like a GB Micro with no space wasted for that gigantic screen), so the analog stick isn't in the "same" place as it was before. It's much closer to everything else.

Which... apparently makes everything else about the controller a pile of crap.

Microsoft made a Sidewinder variant PC controller that was kind of designed like this a while back.  My biggest issue with it was that the d-pad was at an angle with the curve of the controller.  It had a very adverse affect on things, now I had to kind of hit down/right to go forward?  Unfortunately, the "batarang" seems to be going the same route, except now we have sticks and a d-pad that from the pictures I've seen of it are will be every bit as bad.

You guys aren't getting it, Sony expects us to mutate and adapt to their perfect controller. It's worth it. The problem lies with us.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Sony could release crap on a stick and people would fall for it. I mean they've done it twice in a row now.

My problem with it is the analog stick, not the look.

I don't know about you guys, but I thought every controller this gen was great.

Gamecube first
Xbox S-type second
Dual-Shock third

They all had their strengths and their weaknesses, it's just that the GC had more and less.

As for the "I don't know whether to throw it or eat it" controller....what can I say that hasn't already been said?

Black&Mild: What the hell are you talking about? Heard from who? I pretty sure NO ONE other than Sony has touched the controller.

I imagine it's more comfortable than the Dual Shock...It's just their utter lack of acceptance that the DS has horrible placement of everything.

i dunno about you guys, but I played the 360 and I think the controller isn't as good as the Xbox controller S.
This might be a comfortable controller, but I think the Rev will win in comfort this round.. I want measurements of the Rev controller though.. I think it's just about the heght of my cell phone (archaic Nokia-POS around 15 cm/6 in)
I'll shut up now...

I never liked any of the triggers accept the N64 and the Gamecubes.  PS2's were too close together and were too easy to mistakenly press the wrong button.

The X-box controllers weren't bad...but they weren't form fitting either.

I have a few grudges:

1. the d-pad, i've always hated how they are all seperated.  After some time my fingers hurt, and they feel kinda edged.

2. The L & R triggers look oddly placed.

3. And a minor grudge i have is the face buttons, i still can't remember where x, square, circle, and triangle are without guessing, trial and error, or simply looking down.  I understand a, b, x, and y thats simple but how do u logically know what comes first in button arrangements, alphabetically?  Circle, Square, Triangle, and X?  Maybe its chronologically..........hmmmm.........what came first the circle, square, triangle or perhaps the x?

By the way i think the xbox360 controller is the least flawed so far, i mean they got rid of those ridiculous black and white buttns and gave us L & R Triggers and Buttons, I gotta say i like that, however the analog stick is still the same and IMO i don't really feel comfortable with how it pushes inwards, it should be more like the GCN.

I'll reserve my opinion till I try it out personally, but DAMN, that thing is ugly.

I can see that it isn't the general consensus here, but I liked the dual shock.  Other than the shoulder buttons, which I still can't seem to accurately hit,  it feels like what it is -- a souped up bootleg SNES contorller.  I can't get used to the Xbox's controller (too uncomfortable, even the S), and on the GC controller, my thumb always hits the X button accidentally when playin games that require you to hold the A button (accelerating in fzero, mario kart, charging in metroid, etc).

Sony is getting dumber and dumber. Here's the ones I can come up with off the top of my head:

1: The Bananarang. Nothing left to say.
2: Taking a perfectly fine combat system in Star Wars: Galaxies and replacing it with a brand new one that was only tested for two  weeks and released in a horribly buggy state.
3: Selling the PSP at a loss... When the company is in millions of dollars debt.
4: Expecting to sell the PS3 at a loss.
5: Advertising the PSP/PS3 as non-game systems.

Feel free to add more.
