Wait, what the hell? He died while brushing his teeth, of heart failure? Just like that? No warning signs or anything?

Wow, this is shocking... wow...

It's really not that uncommon for someone to just drop dead without warning...The human body is a fragile thing...

I think that definately is the best way to die, my grandma passed away recently like that, it was sudden, no hospitals, no long agonies, one can only hope to have such death. The sad thing here is that he was young and left a family, but at least he didnt had to endure a disease for years.

Yeah, but he was 38 years old! He had addiction problems with alcohol and pain-killer drugs, but I think he was free of them for a while.

With everything that wrestlers put their bodies through though, this kind of thing is definitely more likely to happen to one of them..

The leader of the Green party here in New Zealand dropped dead a week ago. A virus got to his heart and inflamed it. Dead without any warning.

He was off it for 4 years. It just doesn't make sense unless he got back on the stuff.

That sucks.  I don't watch a lot of wrestling anymore, but Eddie stuck out as one of the funnier characters from the little bit I've seen recently.

This hit me like a ton of bricks.  Eddie was one of my favourite wrestlers ever.  What's so shocking is that at the time of his death Eddie was a main eventer for the biggest wrestling league in the world.  He died at his absolute peak.  That's pretty rare in wrestling as most wrestler deaths involve retired guys or guys working indys.

This is especially sad if you've watched the Eddie Guerrero DVD.  The bio portion is all about how low his life got and then how he cleaned it up.  He got off drugs, remarried his wife, got rehired by the WWE and became an even bigger star than he was before.  It was a very uplifting story and I recommend the DVD to any wrestling fan (plus the matches on there are awesome).  So to see him die only a year later is very tragic.  At least he got to rise again before his death.  I prefer this to him overdosing in an alley somewhere after years of being in the "where are they now?" file.

I imagine Eddie's heart attack is a result of his past life of drugs.  Yeah he was clean for the last few years but damage was done to his body from that abuse and that could have played a part.

I think Eddie's life is a perfect candidate for a movie, assuming it was done properly and not just some exploitive "made for TV" crap.

i remember being in eighth grade and having alot of fun imitating wrestlers....he was one of those people who got imitated at our wrestling parties(where we watched a pay-per-view and taped our own backyard wrestling). We thought the LWO was cool. Also he was one of the better performers. i remember he came back from being gone for like a year after he got into a car accident and being really ripped. Its like really shocking for him of all people to die. He's sort of a pioneer. He's one of those people that helped bring luce libre style to attention.

Well, I just watched Raw for the first time in a while for the tribute. Overall, it seemed pretty sincere, and it was nice that Eddie got a full memorial... I wish JR had been there to announce, though.

Benoit's reminiscing was extremely moving. And of course they showed one of my all-time favourite moments; when he and Guerrero stood together in the ring after WM20, both with titles..

Eddie died of heart failure. It happened while he brushed his teeth. It had to do with workouts and pushing himself physically resulting in his heart being unable to function. His heart just couldn't go on.

The guy is a very charismatic wrestler and will be missed by everyone. I got to see him in action when the WWE came out to Australia earlier in the year, and it was truly a sight to see him interact with the crowd after watching him on TV for so long. The fact that he's been sober and clean of drugs for four years shows how strong he is mentally.

The WWE is holding tributes to Eddie in the RAW and Smackdown shows (since RAW has already aired, go and watch the Smackdown show) and judging by the writeup of the RAW show, it truly is a tribute to Eddie.

Two words: Owen Hart. That was the most recent tragedy apart from this. The Benoit-Bret Hart match that they had after Owen passed away was something really special. Go find it on the net if you don't believe me.

He's still recovering from surgery. I'm sure he'd have loved to be there, and sends his love to the family of Eddie.

I know.  It's on the Benoit DVD and is a must see.  Unfortunately the edited version with the commercial breaks is on the DVD.  At the time it came out Nitro had a special satelite feed with no commercials and I've got a copy of that.  It's a little odd as the commentary switches to a different team whenever the commercials would normally be on and before each commercial break the camera zooms way out to show the whole arena.  But the match is WAY better without the interuptions.  I figure the irregularities of the satelite feed are why the WWE didn't include the full version on the DVD.  Either that or laziness or because of the WCW purchase the WWE editing guy doesn't even know there's a full version.  I don't know which version is on the Bret Hart DVD.

Eddie was awesome.  One of my favorite Eddie moments was in a match in WCW where I first saw him break character to dash to tag in his partner.  He later expanded on this type of body language in the WWF doing things like putting the belt in an opponent's hands and laying down right before the ref turns around causing his opponent to be disqualified.
