Well I was trying to make a point not a 1:1 technical comparison.
I often find that I stink at these technical metaphors, but I'll try another... I can take a 3D, Playstation One game and render it from source in HD. You will no doubt have a cleaner picture, but it's not going to improve enough to look like a generation difference in visuals.
Even that comparison is somewhat moot though, as this isn't exactly like PS1 games to PS2 games.... some xbox games already ran in true HD to begin with.
Bottom line is that Microsoft has a bit of flexibility with their solution to backwards compatibility. They had to work for it though, so I guess they get some points there. Micro-payments take them right back though

(BTW, I think emulation is not the best word to characterize what exactly they're doing on a technical level, but it's likely the best word to throw out to the general public. This is not your Mame, SNES, Bleem, style of emulation....)
