Mario Party games are incredibly fun already (in multiplayer), with online it'd be less special but you'd be able to have fun with it by yourself. The mini games with the Rev controller would be awesome, but i'm more looking forward to what Wario Ware does with it.

Mario Party is/was a fantastic game that's been milked dry. 3 and 5 in particular just never should have been made. Actually, I'd be willing to bet that the franchise might still be well regarded if it wasn't for those 2 games....think about it, then we'd have the original, the worthy sequel, the gamecube update, and the sequel to the gamecube update with (mildly) innovative mic support. Hard to complain about 2 games a generation.

This, Wario Ware and Animal Crossing will definitely show off how well the controller works for minigames and for the tasks in AC. But it's still only one genre...

Oh, and I think MP:R should do something similar to the Retro Cup for MKDS. It should have some of the most popular minigames from the previous games and add them to the Rev version with a graphical update and available online.

EDIT: They shouldn't have more than two incarnations, although that probably won't happen, knowing Nintendo.

I loved the first Mario Party to death (ah, good old blisters from that tug of war game...), but never played any of the following ones nor did I get the urge to. Honestly, the Rev's control could change that, though, depending on if it makes for some more interesting mini-games, especially when done with others.

Clearly Mario Party has Mini-games and Wario Ware has Micro-games!

Jeez...I can't believe you didn't see the OBVIOUS difference there.

Mario Party is great, as far as I'm concerned the only major problem with the series is that it has been done to death.  If Nintendo and Hudson only released one per console generation and put a little more effort in, I think the series would be much better received.

Okay, the other problem is that it's not much fun as a one-player game, and Hudson seems to ignore obvious improvements that could be made in that respect, but as a multiplayer title, I love it.  I think Revolution could totally refresh the series if they put the effort in.  Minigames are the easiest thing to come up with for a new type of game input (see DS) so I'm hoping Hudson really puts the remote to the test.  Maybe they could even do it without the analog stick attachment.

Mario Party is fun. That said, I've only played the original and 3. I think that Nintendo should just hold off on Mario Party until a little bit into Revolution's lifecycle.

Oh, and also..... Wario Party. It'd be Wario Ware but a bunch of multiplayer online stuff. See who gets the best score. >_>

"GET N OR GET OUT.  COMING 2006."  That campaign slogan for the N64 was a good one.  However, I liked "PLAY IT LOUD" for the SNES.

Back on topic:  I agree that Mario Party has been milked dry.  However because of the new controller (along with online play and easy gameplay type of "pick up and play"), Nintendo needs should continue the series to fall in line with their push to attract the non-gamer.  Imagine all of the mini-games falling in line with the actions shown by the controller trailer (e.g., cooking food, fishing, drumming with two controllers, etc.).  The only catch is that I would rather them release 2 games in the Revolution life cycle.

The only reason why Nintendo should release one every year and milk it dry IS if Hudson and Nintendo are making a lot of money off of this franchise.

I almost forgot about someone mentioning a girlfriend...

It is a proven fact:

Mario Party is a really cool way to attract a non-gamer girlfriend...it gives new meaning to the phrase, "Do you want to party?"

Okay, I'm stumped. What was the old meaning to "do you want to party?"

Anyways...

I think the reason that Mario party has been put out again and again is because it's probably dirt cheap to make, and it rakes in a ton of money. Remmebr, the 7 Mario Party games have sold more than 5 million copies in the US ALONE. That means each game easily averages above the 1 million mark worldwide. Then you look at the design of Mario Party and it is amazingly cheap to make! Each mini-game is a little module that they just mix and match and plug into the whole, and the production values are FAR from expensive. I bet the Mario party dev budget is peanuts compared to even a game like Kirby's Air Ride.

Bottomline, Mario party is conceptually cheap to make, cuts corners on graphics and sound, yet is a consistent MILLION SELLER even after 7 games!

Well, all this leads to one thing: Mario party on the Revolution. But I don't think we should call it a franchise milked dry. With the innovations of the Rev Controller, I'm pretty interested into how exactly Nintendo and Hudson can get Mario Party to live up to its name this generation.

Kairon, you're too right about why Mario Party keeps coming around.  The series sells like crazy - I think new versions always appear somewhere in the top 3 of the Japanese sales charts.  As a gamer, I just wish they'd put more effort into fixing the things that people consistently complain about in the series.

Ah, I am one of those that buys each MP iteration, it is great fun to bring it over to my moms (who actually enjoys the series) and play the game. Even though each game doesn't include much new, there are enough new mini games and alterations to keep the party going!
