Nintendo Futurna? If it's fake it's fake, if it's real...
« on: November 02, 2005, 08:15:21 AM »
...guess I get to be the first to post this.

According to Joystiq...according to Playbomb (never heard of this site before), the NRC as some people here call it, may come with a portable screen, and have the ability to project images onto the screen from the console itself. Also, supposedly the new name is the "Nintendo Futurna". I don't believe any of it, but here's the links.

If these images are months old then why do thye use the EXACT same PR shots released last month? Not to mention that cannot be an actual mock-up, as the disc wouldn't fit. in order for that slot loader to work the slot has to be the same size as the disc, yet the machine isn't deep enough for a disc the size of the slot. VERY BAD FAKE.

Man, seriously....  who in their right minds would believe this?

If we even assumed for a second that this would be at all possible, what the heck is the benefit?  It isn't even a good fake idea...

People are sad they can't have their 15 minutes of fame anymore by declaring they have inside info about the controller, so they just start making crap up?  God.  This crap is what makes Nintendo look bad.

Not to add fuel to the fire but...

New Nintendo Patent dated October 27, 2005*

and an image for the patent

Nintendo Futurna

do with this as you will, decipher it as you want, but don't shoot the messenger

*this is not the patent that I originally posted here yesterday, at some point in time it was changed. for the correct patent look to Mr. Mojo's post which has the correct link that also contains the same pic that i have also linked to above.

The first thing I thought of when I saw that was Rab's FPS control method, where you can reach around objects to shoot.  Then I remembered the Rev controller trailer where the kid jumps up from behind a chair.  Then I wrote this post.

I didn't bother to read the patent because they make me feel stupid.

Then I edited this post and viewed the thread again to find the pic of the FUTURAMA linked in the previous post, then I edited this post again so I could say that I don't know what to think.  I don't know what the paten's actually saying, but it's more than likely that the FUTURAMA is just a fake based on this scan so it could seem legit.  I can't be bothered to analyze this situation further than that.

thats why I provided the pic from the patent so that reading the patent wasn't absolutely necessary. And I provided another pic of futurna just so no one had to scroll back up to the top. Just helping the lazy be lazier.

I don't know what that is, but it looks sweet!

It was filed in April 2005 and just recently accepted.

Actually, that's incorrect.  This blog was very reliable, and he even lists Serious Gamers blog as BS on the right sidebar.  This was the blog that had the interview with Peter Molineux and turned out to be for real.

it causes a 3d image. Im guessing this is kind of like the glasses but instead they made a screen. With the screen the picture will come out and project in mid air. you never know.

I really don't get it all. How large would the screen be? Is the Rev going to project images to it? Wouldn't that only allow one screen and require the Rev to have specific placement? Wouldn't the screen be ackward to use? What are the benefits of this?
Thanks for listening.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0003] Portable, handheld game devices are by now well known in the art. See, for example, U.S. Pat. Nos. 6,716,103; 6,743,104; 6,821,204. Game devices previously have not had, however, dual screen functionality in combination with touch-sensitive technology, and the capability of accommodating different-sized game cards packaged in a novel and easy-to-use game console.

Guys, that patent is obviously referring to the DS.

That picture isn't even from that patent I don't think...

The patent is just a patent for the DS and nothing more that I could find.

Yeah, that picture definately isn't from that patent...first of all the patent numbers are different, secondly, the picture says it's figure 4 and the description of figure four in the patent is more or less a different angle of the "handheld gaming device" that we call the DS.

Edit: There is the patent that you want.

2nd Edit:  So that patent is not for anything even mildly interesting...after reading the first couple of pages in depth I can tell you that it has to do with intelligent camera controll and absolutely nothing to do with actually projecting a 3D image into a space.  The picture in question is actually showing how a theoretical scene in a video game (all of the Zo's and Zs's in the pic) would be correctly put onto a TV screen.  There isn't anything actually of interest as there never is in patents because they always get published WAY after it would be interesting for us.  As evidenced by the fact that the DS patent just got published TODAY.

So basically this whole Fururna thing still has absolutely no evidence.
