Looks like Blizzard is no longer listing the Gamecube under their FAQ as one of the consoles that Ghost is being released for. It maybe old news, but I get the feeling its canned for the GC. Anyone know ?

That worries me.  Nintendo.com still has a page for the game, so that may shed some hope on the situation.  Plus I'm wondering that if they updated the FAQ why they wouldn't add that it's coming out on xbox360 while they took off the cube info...I think it's supposed to come out on 360 at least.

I hope this game really isn't cancelled on the GC because I really liked Metal Arms (which was made by the same team more or less) and I really love starcraft, so I was looking forward to this game.

So... I heard it was indeed cancelled those bastards!, the excuse, "no online support" or something.... bah, Diablo II looks like my last Blizzard game for a long long time.

Unfortunately the GameCube version of the game was decided to be dropped. In order to provide the game envisioned by the console team a set and readily available online solution was needed. Unfortunately the GameCube has no online service and since so much work is going in to the online portion, it would be additional work to release only part of the intended game. Nintendo systems certainly aren't something that we are against supporting. Blizzard in its entirety is based upon earlier games for Nintendo systems. The GameCube and Revolution will still be cosidered for future products, unfortunately Ghost will only be made available on the Xbox and PS2 at this time.

Basically, the usual bullshit "no online support, even though the PS2 has no online service either" excuse. Sigh.

Yeah, this is such crap.  Unless the game has changed completely it has a very single-player centric mode.  In that case, they should consider it a bonus and leave the online mode out of the GameCube version, saving themselves some work.

What's more depressing?  The fact that Nintendo has made it so that third parties want nothing to do with the Cube or the fact that they provided them with the lame excuse everyone uses?

This is why I hate it when Nintendo skimps on features the competition has.  This is why no HD support on the Rev is an issue.  Just for once I would like Nintendo to not provide an excuse so that the third party has to give the real reason for not supporting their console.  Would this game not have been cancelled if the Cube was online?  Hard to say.  The market share is the real issue and it's hard to say if online would have made a difference there or not.  I certainly think that not having the feature sure as hell didn't help the image of an already unpopular console.

So when is this game coming out? I mean, with the Xbox360 having to be programed with what games it supports, wouldn't that leave late commers like this out in the cold in regards to the regular Xbox? Or am I missing something?

So are they not making a 360 version?  That would be really strange because Ghost isn't supposed to come out until sometime in 06, probably not until second quarter, and the 360 will already have been out for a while by then.  Weird wild stuff.

They should just make a Rev version since they're so into the online mode.  If they already had a cube version started they could just continue it and use the shell controller.  It could spice up the launch line-up.

The real reason is because they probably don't think it would sell. How many GameCube games do you own, how many of those are first or second party, and how many of those are third party franchise, and how many are non-franchise?

Old news= New news to me.  Its to the point where its almost expected for the 'Cube to not get the big 3rd party titles.

Maybe they could take what they have and port it to the Rev? I'm the sure boys at Blizzard can rack their brains on an intuitive interface with rev controller with the nunchaku configuration. Won't happen though, too convienient...

Using PCG'ers as a representative sample, I'd say not many Nintendo fans have not said an unkind word about Blizzard. Most are familiar with their franchises. Most of them enjoy it extensively. Its safe to say, Nintendo fans would come out for this title.

But I guess we'll never know

I think cube owners should be thankful this one ain't coming out on the Cube.

It's been in development for so long.  Plus it doesn't sound like it will be ready till next summer or something.  By that time we'll all be into the next Zelda and looking forward to the Revolution.

yeah because long development cycles are the cause of bad games... oh wait...  Zelda will be amazing but how can you be content with one release in 06?
I was watching ghost and though I never followed starcraft or even got into diablo, it was looking like it was going to get my money.

Artimus, I don't know if you meant that question specifically for Ian, but I own 50 games.  15 of which are 1st party, 4 - 2nd part games (counting the Metroids as 2nd party).  Of the 31 third party games, 8 are non-franchise (but it gets fuzzy because monkey ball and def jam got sequels)... so I'm what they call a consumer.  I'd really appreciate more than just Zelda for the end of the GCN.

"I'd really appreciate more than just Zelda for the end of the GCN."

Doesn't really matter. Like it or not, devs will be developing for next generation consoles about now. It's not really unique to the GCN... the Xbox has got nothing left for it, and the PS2 only has FFXII. It seems all three are really skimping on smooth transitions to next gen, although the Xbox has less of an empty no man's land by virtue of the 360 being so close to release.

Sure we could go into technicalities (I see your Ghost and I raise you a Mario Strikers) but at this point in the game it's all pretty much pointless. At least we're getting Zelda for the end of the GCN instead of Conker.

That's not really true... other systems may see the amount of 3rd party games dip down before finally phasing out, but until the next gen consoles have a solid, sizeable user base, they're not going to move on entirely. While there may not be any new GTA's or MGS's headed to those systems they are getting their fair share of 3rd party through at least 2006. Black is one of those games that makes me wish 3rd parties still acknowledged the Cube's existance. Seeing clips of that game makes me question why Microsoft is bothering to rush into "the next gen" when current generation consoles seem to just be hitting their stride. There are a variety of other titles of this nature that are in the works for both the PS2 and Xbox, yet outside of  Baten Kaitos 2 and the yearly whorage of Splinter Cell, no notable 3rd party GC games come to mind for '06. It's not that the loss of "SC Ghost" is so devestating as much as it is symbolic of the overall view of the Gamecube in the developing/publishing community at the moment.

I forgot about Black... d'oh.

Other than that though, I don't see anything special coming out for PS2 or especially Xbox until next gen. Certainly nothing I'd buy, anyway... your mileage may vary.

I don't follow the other systems enough to know what's still coming out for them, but I'm betting PS2 has a lot more life left in it than the GameCube.  The system is so popular it's bound to have better support by default.   See NES, PSX, and GBA.  Anyway, I think joeposh has my number...I'm not so disappointed by the fact that there's one less game next year as I am by the way people use online as an excuse not to put games on the Cube.

Edit: So, in addition to SC: Ghost and Final Fantasy XII, next year PS2 will offer fans Wild Arms 4, Okami, Tales of Legendia, Hitman: Blood Money, Dark Cloud 3, Final Fight: Streetwise, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, and...Family Guy!?!  Those are some of the highlights, at a glance I'd guess there are about 50 others announced: some will probably be canceled, many will be crappy, but I think that's still a heck of a lot more than GameCube will have next year.

you know... there IS a network adapter for the cube, blizzard COULD still connect to the net.  i mean they will have to write something to get the ps2 online, since there is no central ps sever (and won't be for the ps3 either, they just announced) so why not the cube too?

i suppose writing blizzard would be pointless, but i think i'll try anyway. though i did cancel my WoW account, so dunno if they want to hear from me =)

Well, if you want to talk about what's new for PS2, they've still got Kingdom Hearts and about 30 other games coming before Christmas!  I was just looking at next year, because I think Cube's Christmas isn't bad either.  Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, DDR Mario Mix...it's not Nintendo's best Christmas, but it's still decent.

Besides Zelda, we should get a chance to play Kirby and hopefully Chibi Robo next year.  And the supposedly awesome Naruto games will debut here next year for people who don't import (like me).  I have a feeling Nintendo may have one or two more unannounced releases for next year too.
