This looks good!? I'm just really disappointed they aren't doing this with FFVI now

I don't trust Square to retouch FFVI with a ten foot pole.

Same... although I do hope they just remove the "dash shoes" and increase the walking speed of all characters naturally.

Yeah deadly, that's exactly what I was thinking... If we just got those screens without any labels, I think we would all be convinced it was Crystal Chronicles...

They may also just be using the engine.. which would have to make the conversion cheaper and faster.

Erm, there's no way they're going to recycle an engine for the GC on the GBA. Same look usually means same art director, not same engine.

Wasn't a CC scheduled for the DS? Maybe they are using the engine developed for CC DS.

EDIT: Hold it now? Which one are we talking about FF III or V and VI?

That's very possible.

Why wouldn't you want a FFVI remake? It'd be a lot more interesting than ANOTHER port.

gamesarefun.com has a nice comparison chart so you can see the difference between the original the the remake.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Yeah, that second part is what I was implying (though poorly apparently).  The DS version of CC and FF3 will be running off of the same engine to save on dev costs and what not.

I also figure that CC came first as it is an obvious fit for the DS, and then some smart guy at square said "We could do a sweet remake with this engine too!"

Looks great, and it seems they are making sure they follow the level design down to the detail...

I kinda doubt they'll really use the same engine for CC and 3, the games are different enough to warrant huge differences. Sure, may be derived from the same codebase but who knows how extensive SE's common libraries are?

FFIII looks great, but I'd kind of like to play the original instead of a remake...maybe they'll include it.

That's my opinion, not yours.

"Why wouldn't you want a FFVI remake? It'd be a lot more interesting than ANOTHER port."

I don't think there was ever a port on a newer Nintendo system...

But anyway. Have you played anything Square put out after FF7 (other than FF9)? They don't have what it takes to remake FFVI anymore. They'd butcher it along with my childhood memories.

Erm...I just had a really stupid idea, and I hope its wrong.

I hope FFIIIDS isn't FF:CCDS.

And considering those two gameplay styles cannot be merged and that FF3 is more anticipated than FFCC the worst that could happen is that FFCC gets cancelled.

I dunno about FFCC on the DS: Did they even acknowledged its existence?

Anyway, some new tidbits on FF3:

Some clips:

Tanaka also addressed why it took so long for the game to be remade. Despite it being a Famicom game developed by a team of about 10 people, Tanaka said FFIII used some complicated programming techniques that couldn't be ported to other handheld gaming machines until now.

How complicated I wonder...

Quote

Tanaka added that having gone so long without a port, gamers will be getting to experience a vastly upgraded FFIII. For one thing, the developers are remaking the DS version with 3D graphics--sort of. Tanaka said that the game will actually use "virtual" 3D graphics so its maps can't be rotated around, but the camera can still be zoomed in to show details.

Virtual 3d? Sounds like a fancier term for the FF's 7-9, though more highly detailed...

Quote

Finally, FFIII will take advantage of the DS hardware, including the touch screen. In fact, Tanaka said that he plans to make the game completely playable with just the stylus. FFIII will also make use of the DS's wireless capabilities, although the game's main mode will still be a single-player affair. Tanaka didn't go into specifics on how it would use the system's wireless features, except to say he wanted to give people a bonus so they could enjoy the game with friends.

The game would be just as nice if it didn't use the touch screen at all, but battle menus should be sweet.
