Gamecloud interview

Some of the most pertinent stuff is Kaplan says that the REV controller is expected to be comfortable over long periods of use, and that they don't want to rush the REV launch just to get out earlier.

Surprise for GC in 2006? like... what? I have the ridicolous hope that Okami is going to get ported, but it wont happen!

Wow. I was going to just skip this thread, but my curiousity got the better of me.

Its nice to know that Mrs.Kaplan isn't a full time jedi-master if you catch my meaning. Granted these weren't tough questions, but she didn't answer them in her typical "Nothing to see here." style. I won't avoid her interviews like the plague anymore...

I'd say that after Zelda:Twlight Princess, the 'Cube will fade out. Honestly, what else can trump that release? I'd expect perhaps some high caliber titles, but there's nothing that can dethrone Zelda for GOTY-material. Soul Calibur 3 anyone?

Don't rule out Baten Kaitos 2.  That is, if NOA has the time to translate that game while GC is still a viable platform.

Hmm, that's interesting. There's a few games that still haven't made it out of Japan like Nintendo Puzzle Collection and Giftpia that Nintendo could be sitting on til next year.

Let's see what's possible...

- Baten Kaitos 2
- Nintendo Puzzle Collection
- Giftpia
- Chibi Robo
- Twilight Princess
- Kirby
- Donkey Konga 3

... though she did say "surprises", these wouldn't be surprises. I doubt it will be anything significant.

Well I was thinking Brownie Brown's console project had been delayed to Revolution, but I guess it could still be a GC title...And I'd love to see SCIII on GC...

Maybe there'll be a new Pokemon Channel! A NEW ONE! Everyone would be all *groan* and I'd be pumping my fist into the air, spinning in circles, spewing crumbs in every direction, like a SPRINKLER.

"Yes, we’re quite sure that even the most hard-core, up-all-night gamers will find great enjoyment using the new Revolution controller. As with any activity, whether it’s typing on a keyboard or using a video game controller, routine breaks are always recommended."

How are they quite sure?  Have they played with the controller all night?  Logically that's the test they have to do, right?  The fact that she follows that "assurance" with a sentence about taking breaks suggests PR speak to me.  They talked about taking breaks with the Virtual Boy too and in that case it was a requirement.  I need to hear independent game sites and magazines give me impressions because Nintendo would never admit to their controller being "all nighter unfriendly".

I find it very difficult to read NOA interviews anymore as years of broken Nintendo promises has conditioned me to assume it's all BS.  "We’re currently working hard to secure all the necessary elements for a successful launch such as key first-party titles and solid third-party support when Revolution hits next year."  Isn't that what they said about the DS launch?  NOA thinks crappy EA games is "solid third party support" and I consider them chicken scraps that even Nokia can get.  "Surprise" probably means any unannounced Cube game.  That could be Mario Party 8, something that none of us would be even remotely excited about but is technically a "surprise" nonetheless.

I say we shouldn't get worked up about any Cube surprises.  It'll be better to assume it's nothing and get something exciting than to expect something cool and just get Pokemon Coloseum 3.

They're certainly hyping up the Rev though.  You can't hype something more than "a gaming experience unlike anything you have ever played before."

They also talk about taking breaks in all of the instruction manuals nowdays, I think Perrin was just covering Nintendo's butt with that comment.  It's the alternative to saying, "But don't sue us because you play games for hours on end and ignore all the obvious warning signs from your body."  Personally I'm totally confident that the controller will be comfortable for long play times, although I think the button layout may turn out to be an issue... I'm unsure about the vertical alignment of the buttons and the d-pad on the remote.  I think that will be more awkward than uncomfortable, though.

Edit: I saw Doshin while I was in Germany and I soooo wanted to buy it, but I don't know if there's a way to play PAL games on NTSC TVs.  I don't think the surprises will be anything to spectacular, either, I especially don't think they'll bother porting any older titles except maybe Puzzle Collection at this point in time, but it's still nice to know that there are more games than they've announced.

Anyone who reads any PR speak knows they throw stuff like that out all the time. And with the pressure with law suits lately they're playing it up. They're syaing you can play all night but remember, smart gamers take breaks! That's why games and the DS have that obnoxious seizure warning.

I was at a local game shop last week and while discussing the GameCube with the store's owner she told me that even though 3rd party support has become very disappointing that the GameCube is definitely not dead. Apparently she's heard from her distributors that Nintendo has plans to release at least 30 "high-profile" titles on the GameCube in 2006 that have not yet been announced.

I'll believe it when I see it. I think she is mistaken 'cause she also claimed that Mario Kart DS would be released today, to surprise the gaming world. LOL

Any Cube game in 2006 would count as high-profile, I think. :¬]

If you play a PAL game on an NTSC GCN with Freeloader it will output PAL 60Hz [I think, possibly 50Hz]. So you'll need a convertor. I've been longing to play Doshin too, but any JPN copy that crops up is full MSRP or more.

Edit: From PGC's own mailbag. Do recent versions of Freeloader perform PAL<>NTSC conversion then?

Datel's Freeloader disc is all-region, so yes, it will let you play European (PAL) games on your U.S. (NTSC) GameCube. There's no guarantee it will work on every single game, but it seems to be compatible with the vast majority of GameCube titles. However, I've heard that the PAL>NTSC conversion is buggier than the more straightforward Japan>U.S. conversion (both Japan and the U.S. use the NTSC television format). You may want to check around online to see if anyone else has tried this game with the Freeloader....]/i]

Doshin doesn't support 60Hz mode. It's also the only Nintendo game that was dubbed for the various languages in Europe. And be warned: The English dub is real English!

Well, I'd assume that Nintendo, in the course of developing games for the system, have used the controller quite a bit.

Remember the power pad? it's manual  had a warning that you could only play it so long every day. they had a picture of a kid collapsing with a heart attack.

I played it over 3 hours one day and wondered if I was gonna die.

all of the games have restrictions like that, it is in all of the instruction books that if you should take a break every hour of play to prevent repetitive motion syndrome.  Since nobody ever listens to the warnings, their only purpose is to cover nintendo's @ss from getting sued

Man ShyGuy thats funny. I could just see a kid getting afraid something like that would happen, im laughing as I type this. My mom just asked what was so funny and after I explained she thought you had a heart attack.

Any way I doubt 30 "high profile" titles will be out for the cube next year. The way that sounds you'd think that the development of such high profile games would (and probably is) go toward the revolution.

Man that was funny.

Ha ha ha, the power pad story reminds me of this sign I saw in a zoo in Germany.  It said "Warning, the bears play with toys" and had a picture of a polar bear hitting a guy square in the head with a pylon.  Sadly, the photo my girlfriend took was lost from a corrupt SD card.  No, the bears didn't hit me in the head with any pylons, but I wonder if it's ever happened?

I could believe that there are 30 unannounced games for the Cube in total, but not 30 "high profile" ones.  I'd be pretty happy if there are 30 unnanounced games left, that would put the GameCube way ahead of the N64 and maybe even a little bit ahead of the Super NES in its final year.

Chibi Robo Plz!

I'd import but it doesn't seem like the most import friendly from what i hear, plus importing is so expensive.  For heavens sake Ds games cost about the same as a US gamecube game at full price.

That's because GC games are damn cheap in the US.

I've seen Chibi Robo in English at the GC Leipzig so the chance is pretty high. Maybe it'll be Europe-only but I doubt that.
