I just realised using the controller like Mario suggests could be done with the standard shell controller. I would much rather control a racing game with both hands because twisting your wrists repeatedly is asking for some sort of wrist pain and/or injury. With two hands the movement is in your elboys to tild the drivers back or forward and to turn them left/right wouldn't be as drastic of a movement on the wrist. If a racing game were to use a controller in this way to control the vehicle I would rather use the shell controller.
Ok, well think of it this way.
A snowboarding game. The remote could essentially become the board (if pointed towards the tv). To cut left, you would have to rotate the back end of the remote to the right, and twist the controller downwards to the left. Therefore mimmicking the cut of the snowboard on the mountain. Jet-skis would manage the same way, with the cut being on a body of water instead. Also, to dive you'd tip the front end downward.
The remote "becoming the board" can be used in alot of racing games (except ones that evovle cars). It could be used on a motorcycle game, a snowboarding game, maybe Tony hawk, street luge, and even a hang-gliding game.
Maybe I should draw a picture.....
