[edit: No in-game match-making, as far as I can tell.]

I really like it. Clearly designed around only letting people you know come into your town, which I prefer, especially in a game that a lot of kids will be playing. (and in a game where, you know, people can come i and pretty much destroy your town.)

I'd find the password system annoying if you had to enter a password everytime you visited, but you don't....in fact, you don't even have to enter a password at all if you meet up with the person whom you want to be on your friends list in person.
“...there are those who would...say, '...If I could just not have to work everyday...that would be the most wonderful life in the world.' They don't know life. Because what makes life mean something is purpose.  The battle. The struggle.  Even if you don't win it.” - Richard M. Nixon

I personally don't want to necessarily go around visiting towns...I just like...idk, I want to meet people.  Couldn't they have made like a lobby?  That was password-free but you couldn't destroy it or anything?  I thought it was a good idea...

Apparently the Japanese version will not link up with the American version of this game... Is this true?

I heard that too, and it makes sense since you will have no idea what the other player is trying to say, and Animal Crossing is a communication game.

Unless, of course, one person is somewhat fluent with the other person's language, which is the case with me and a friend of mine in Japan...

Err... More well, he speaks the English, so if anything, I'd buy him the US version.

Considering there are most likely some culture-specific events in there and such it might be hard to archieve compatibility between the japanese and US versions.

They have already come out and said that there aren't any more 'real' holidays in the games just for that reason.

Also, there will be no regional or worldwide link up like there is in Mario Kart... so I don't see why not being compatible with the Japanese versions is a problem unless you are one of the few that has a close friend living in Japan.
