Xenosaga DS

According to the new Famitsu, a new Xenosaga is in development for the DS.

Never played the originals, but the more RPGs the merrier.

I might as well say it before someone else does....

They were going to make this game for PSP until they realised the PSP's battery would be dead before the opening FMV was halfway through.

Xenosaga seems like one of the worst choices for a portable console.  Doesn't that game have half-hour long cutscenes?  It's not really "on the go" friendly.  Still it's postive support, it's just not a good portable type of game.

It's good to see Namco's relationship with Nintendo is still pretty strong.  We need their support on the Rev.

You'd almost think you could redesign some game priorities and not have super-long cutscenes.

But that would make this a GOOD thing.

Addict, we can't get on Ian's case for every one of his posts.  He's right.  While I've only played Xenogears, it had attrociously long cutscenes, 15-20 minutes long!  From what I've heard, the Xenosaga games aren't any better, but at least they had pretty graphics to make watching them almost tolerable.  The DS won't have that, unless they change the style and use sprites and bright colors and stuff.

I would LIKE to think that SHIOHWHOOPS would cut down on the cutscenes, and I think they will to an extent, but this IS SHOHWHOOPS we're talking about.  It'll probably end up being a game that you'll play at home on your DS.  On the positive side, staying at home with the DS isn'u all that bad since it provides a different experience than consoles- that is, if the DS's features are used well.

Oh well, we probably won't hear of this project for a long long time.  ANd it's better to have than to not, it can't hurt

Ah pardon me but they only announced its development, so how can anyone already be pessimist about the game? No image, footage, nor details has been released. LOL! Go watch Densha Otoko and have a good laugh!

It's a portable game. Square didn't put that many cutscenes in FFTA or FF1&2.

is it a remake or what? Because then they can tailor it to more of a handheld experience.

KN: No, this ISN'T Square we're talking about, it's Namco.

Perhaps they'll implement saving during cutscenes...

I have a feeling this'll be the first Xenosaga to be released in Europe. XS2 was listed in the ad booklet that came with Tekken 5 but I have my doubts that they're bringing it over. Doesn't make sense to give us the second part of a story when you haven't released the first part here, right? I mean, they can do it for Katamari because that doesn't really rely on the story but I don't think you can make sense of XS2 (subtitle: Beyond Good & Evil. Let's see if it lives up to it) without having played XS1.

I still wonder what stopped them. It's not like Star Ocean 3 was translated, either.

this has been rumored for about 6months now
glad its finally offical

I hope they pull it off, seems that remakes of console rpg's normally end up worse then orginal ones for handhelds

Um, i don't understand wasn't this announced a long time ago, stating that both xenosaga and baten kaitos were coming to the DS?  I imagine though that Baten Kaitos prolly was canned due to it's sales on GCN or lack of i should say.

I'm gonna take a guess here too that Xenosaga DS will probably be on a much larger cart than current DS games........I hope that brings other devs to make larger games hopefully filled with great content.  Heck some better 2d gfx or 3d gfx would be welcome too.  Although i do understand that most DS devs won't want to cut into profits too much.  So chances are slim until cart prices go down.

It's quite simple really, all the Xenosaga games have sucked big time. Like everyone says, the games aren't even games, they're just super long cinemas with virtually no gameplay. If you can't stand FF, you'll rip your hair out playing Xenosaga.

Don't speak ideally of one of my most anticipated DS games being canned without proof...

Anyway, not enough known about the title yet to give a fair opinion yet... I wish we were getting a Tales game instead, though. However, will likely pick it up regardless.

We've got a couple of those on the GBA, which can be played on the DS. It's just that neither Namco nor NOA gives enough of a crap to bring them over to America. The only reason we got Tales of Symphonia is because NOA gave a crap (Namco didn't).

Woooooah thanks KDR, I've been going all this time thinking it was Square, whoops.

That's because you played Xenogears. Square hired a group that would later be named "Monolith" to make Xenogears for them. When Monolith left Square and got bought up by Namco, they decided to continue the "Xeno" series, but they can't touch Xenogears anymore, so they called it "Xenosaga", and when they eventually get around to the Xenogears chapter of the story again, they're going to re-write it.

Arbok, im just saying since they announced both xenosaga and baten kaitos for DS, how come they didn't announce it this time?

Anywho I think more people should have bought both Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos, and now that they are both 19.99 there is no reason why you people shouldn't buy em.

And I for one am truly pissed off that Namco did not bring Tales of Phantasia GBA over to the states, that game rocks!
(Thanks alot for reminding me Ruby Onyx, such bad feeling flowing through me NOW! LOL)

Namco should release Tales game on DS, not PSP.  Seriously the DS has a bigger audience to sell to, so why not?

I'm thanking god that Namco didn't bring Tales Of Phantasia to the US. If you hate the SNES version, you'll hate the GBA version even more. Battles now run slower and with 10 million random battles every few steps, I would rather smash my genital with a brick then play that game again.

I have the first Xenosaga and I will admit it I fell in love with the story and graphics and everything about it, the only problem I had was that I skipped alot of leveling up just to skip back to more story so i could figure what was going on.  That was my problem because my last save leaves me right at a boss im probably 20 levels under and i will never beat.  T-T  I hope both baten kaitos and xenosaga push the graphics of the system similar to what Kingdom Hearts COM did for the GBA.

Xenosaga's main prob was you could bypass the cust scenes.  If the game allowed you to press start to skip thru them, a lot more people would like Xenosaga.

I sure hope this doesn't have any effect on the release of the Baten Kaitos prequel. I don't think it sold THAT bad, considering it was a card battle-based RPG.
