Street Fighter 3: Third Strike?
« on: August 22, 2005, 11:11:48 AM »
Sorry if you clicked on here expecting anything more than my worthless speculation.  I just saw the new trailer for Castlevainia: DoS and the animation is so rich and fluid, it got me to thinking. Is Street Fighter 3: Third Strike (or any Street Fighter 3 game for that matter) possible on the DS? I know Alpha 3 was pretty good on the GameBoy Advance for what it had to work with. And with Wi-Fi just over the horizon...

Interesting proposition. 3rd strike has enjoyed 'extremely' rare status back when you could only get a home version on Dreamcast until the Anniversary collection for PS2/Xbox. My guess is Capcom could do a port if they wanted to, but it seems they'll flock towards the PSP on that matter.

Though a fighting game that could use the touch screen creatively with Wi-Fi sounds like a good idea to me... (or Just localize jump superstars...)

Capcom would have to probably rework all the graphics for it in order for it to work, and well Capcom hasn't exactly been known for redrawing anything in years (see MORRIGAN).  They'd probably do it for PSP before anything else, even though the load times would probably be real bad.  Darkstalkers was already long enough and that was CPS2.  Imagine putting SF3TS on it...

They don't ave to port the exact same game. In fact I don't think the Ds could handle 2D this complex, but SF3 in "some" capacity would be just the old school fix I need during those long 13hour shifts at the gig. Not just Street Fighter any of the good 2D capcom fights would do.

CPS3 was just CPS2 with a ton of extra RAM to cut down on load times from the CD and a couple more bells and whistles.
That system is ancient technology, the GBA may have a problem with it but in no way should the DS suffer anything at all.  I mean, if it comes down to it just use the 3D engine.  Most if not all PS1 2D fighters used 3D hardware acceleration, and it's also how the DC handled all of it's 2D fighters, including SF3.  As I said before, the only real issue graphically would be the resolution which would mean bgs need to be resized and characters need to be redrawn.

I could easly see 3rd strike on DS, or atleast the orginal version of SF3 (which wasnt that great in the arcades)

Yeah, I used to have that game.  It was actually pretty good, but just imagine what that would've been like with DS sized storage and technology.  (hint, DS cards are large enough to hold any Neo Geo arcade game, including the Giga Power ones.)
