UbiSoft announce Nintendo Revolution support
« on: August 17, 2005, 03:25:28 AM »
Word from that German Games Convention thingy is that Ubi Soft are in development with several Revolution games, from gamefront.de and Jeux France.

Quote

Ubisoft supports Revolution

Ubisoft has confirmed support of Nintendo Revolution with games at games convention.

Quote

Whereas many players seemed désepérer concerning an advertisement on Nintendo Revolution, Ubisoft launches the hostilities and confirms at the time of Games Convention its support towards the next console of Nintendo, in particular with the development of several titles. The firm however did not bring more precision on its next Revolution productions.

Good news.

This is no suprise.  Ubisoft is like EA; they support everything.  When anyone says they want better third party support on Nintendo consoles this is not what they mean.  We need EXCLUSIVE third party games and Ubisoft doesn't supply that.

Though this is still better than if Ubisoft didn't support the Rev.  Then Nintendo would really be in trouble.

A surprise this is not. ubisoft is the european version of EA.  If they decided to not butcher the releases on revolution then that would be a surprise, as of right now color me unimpressed.

The Rev will obviously have third party exclusives, but they'll be from people like namco (err... Namco-Bandai) and sega. Sega's wised up to some extent on the problems of their "platform agnostic" plan, and hopefully somewhere along the line someone will slap Capcom's CEO upside the head at a shareholders meeting for sabotaging their sales on the only console that seems to genuinely want them.

I suppose Im feeling a little negative tonight, but unless the Rev gets support from Konami, Capcom and Square Enix it wont have third party support, and by support I mean a real Castlevania, Metal Gear and FF ( not that I like the games mind you, except Castlevania of course)

Revolution support from Konami, you say?

Doesn't sound likely we'd get a real Metal Gear for the Rev but we were promised one or two "flagship" titles, which is a hell of a lot more than they gave us this generation, unless they consider those Disney Sports titles "flagships"

No see, it's a new Disney title actually named Flagship! It's full title is "Mickey's Mediocre Flagship Adventure"

Has Activision announced support? they, along with EA and Ubisoft, make up the Triforce of soulless, corporate, license-filled gaming.

Including some good games too.  Lets not discount them just because they throw money around.  Capitalism at it purest, my friend.

As long as I can play my xtreme sports games like Tony Hawk and SSX on Revolution I'll be satisfied with third party support.  Mmmm guilty pleasure xtreme sports games...

I have to say I really think Factor 5 and Silicon Knights are both very overrated.

Factor 5 creates flight shooters that look really technically nice, but besides that, they haven't proven themselves as a developer.  They had Nintendo's help and they still couldn't get an enjoyable land based missions for Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3.  It was a joke...and the flight levels we got were basically exactly the same as what we played on the N64.  BORING.

Silicon Knights had 2 games for the Cube.  I think they have promise (much more than does Factor 5) but again they are a technical company...and really are not that good at creating fun games.  Eternal Darkness was a great game, but it took how many years to complete?  Sure it moved platforms over, but it also took Nintendo's supervision to really polish the game up.  And did it appeal to everyone?  Was it a grandslam?  No.

Now we had the horrible Metal Gear Solid, which added gameplay mechanics to an old game that wasn't designed to have those mechanics part of the game.  So the game felt off.  Too bad they weren't allowed to revamp the levels, otherwise it might have been a descent game.

I don't think Silicon Knights and Factor 5 deserve us yelling and crying at Nintendo over.  Just like Rare didn't deserve it.  Look at Rare's track record after leaving Nintendo...pitiful.

"I have to say I really think Factor 5 and Silicon Knights are both very overrated."

Overrated or not what's better?  Factor 5 and Silicon Knights support or dick all nothing?  What did we gain from them jumping ship?  Nothing.  It's the same thing with Rare.  You can say that towards the end they weren't delivering.  But we still lost a developer on a console that was struggling with support from the beginning.  Call those devs overrated all you want.  The truth is PS3 and Xbox 360 owners now have even more games to choose from and we have less.  Overrated games are still better than months going by with literally no games released at all.  We're at a point where any third party suggesting support at all is considered a big deal.  Losing ANY support at this point is significant.

I found this quote from an Ubisoft guy working on King Kong...

"Working on these consoles for this game and for the time we have to develop it, it's quite cosmetic...Which is important in this game, because shadows are important, and sound...but I think on 360 and PS3 games are not going to be completely different because interfaces are the same. If interfaces could be different then really new gameplay could appear"

Very encouraging, to say the least...
