Now I'm getting excited.  I agree that nothing Nintendo does is going to live up to the hype...I just want to learn what it is and see some pretty graphics.

Matt is a (censored) but I do think he has some inside information as Nintendo does unfortunately seem to have close ties with IGN.
So I'm pretty much anticipating the Revolution will be shown in with the next week or so. At the very least we'll see the controller and have some game footage to go along with it.

Actually, it's 91 days by my count.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

ChaNoKin: Nintendo used to have a show like that called Spaceworld, but it hasn't held the Spaceworld event for a couple of years, and it hasn't announced a Spaceworld show for this year either.  I'm guessing it's too late to announce the show at this point unless Nintendo wants to hold it later than usual.

I don't think Spaceworld ever had a specific date, did it? It always seems to just kind of happen.

Yes it did, it usually tookplace late August or early Sept. but the last few yrs. there hasn't been a SW.

Although if Ninty really wanted to, they could have it later than usual.

Well actually if they are gonna release the Rev in time for Xmas next year then they would probably have Spaceworld next year instead of this year.

Last time they had a spaceworld it was just b4 the GC launch, I would expect the same for the Rev.

IGN's got some more "hints" about the Rev from a press conference in Europe.  The editors are having a field day over a comment regarding elderly people playing it which I admit is a pretty unrealistic strategy though even I don't think they're going to focus a lot on geezer games.

The most interested quote is:
"What are the new games of the future really going to look like? The titles of our innovative Nintendo DS give an idea of this."

This is interesting because the DS isn't known for its graphics.  In fact its 3D graphics look kind of, well, crappy, at least compared to the PSP.  I don't get what they mean by this or at least I don't see how "it's like the DS" in terms of graphics is something to draw attention to.  If the question was "what are the new games going to play like?" then the DS comparison makes sense but "look like?"  DS games don't "look" all that  unique.

I think they were using "look like" in a sloppy metaphoric sense. Unless they're just being sarcastic SOBs.

And people scoffed when I created the Hardcore Moms thread four months ago, discussing how Nintendo could likely target much older gamers as well... because the 40+ female crowd is the most hardcore of all online gamers.

Even Rick came out of his hole to shut the idea down! The plague on you all, I say. The plague!

You're taking that too literally Ian, the answer that we're reading is obviously to the question "What are future games going to be like" whether that question was asked or not.  There's only a one word difference between those two questions, and it seems that some kind of Japanese-German-English translation could be the culprit, or maybe a simple misunderstanding.

If that answer is taken in a completely literal sense, the Rev is going to be a 2D system, what with all of the innovative DS games being 2D.  That's not going to happen.

I guess you could interpret "look like" as seeing people poking the stylus at the screen, you will see people playing Revolution and you will say "wow".

Good point about the Games Convention still being on. "After the Leipzig thing" does that mean after Nintendos speech or after the whole thing? It could still be a while 'til we hear anything.

If the Rev was a 2D system I would be the happiest man on earth. I would say "wow". Graphics aren't the issue here, it's all about interface and execution.
