Hardcore Gamer Magazine
« on: August 03, 2005, 09:48:42 AM »
Yeah, so i recieved my first free issue today.  Maybe I shouldn't say first, since it could be the only, I honestly don't remember what I signed up for.  I don't care, it's free.

I have to say though, this is shaping up to be a really great gaming magazine.  The first thing I notcied was that the paper was of really high quality.  I like that.  Upon flipping through the pages I was amazed at the number of ads!  There weren't many at all!  There's actually quite a bit of text in this thing, that's always a good sign!  And the text is good!  WOW.  EXCLAMATION POINT?

They really do have a lot of good content in there.  From what I read, it's pretty unbiased too.  It's only the first issure though, so we can't look at any trends or whatnot, but I didn't get the same biased feeling I got when reading Gamepro or Game Informer (both for free of course ).  The writers seem to actually know what they're talking about.

While they did give Killer 7 a 2.5 or something, I was very pleased to see that the reviewer stressed the fact that the game is not for everyone.  As a whole the review was kinda bad, but I was at least happy that the reviewer didn't just sack the game from the start.  He made it obvious that you could very well end up liking the game.

Anyone else get this?  I don't know if the free thing is still going on, but if you're looking for a gaming magazine that doesn't suck, this could very well be what you're looking for.  Also, never ever get Gamepro, even if it is free.  That thing is just trash.

You signed up for the mag after reading this thread.

I haven't gotten mine yet, but I'll check it out when I do.

My breakfast reading material is overflowing.  I have two issues of Rolling Stone (one half read), one issue of GamePro (mostly read) and two issues of Nintendo Power (haven't even had the chance to open them yet) waiting for me.  I'll never get caught up.  Woe is me.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Drop RS. You'll save yourself from a lot of page turning. And Top XXXX of YYYY.

Yeah, I got my first free issue yesterday. August is the first shipment for promo signups, and there are a few more coming I think. And the mag is great. Needs more polish/content, but it's already my favorite American games mag, so they're well on their way.

I got Issue #3 today as well. I remember that it was a 6-month promotion, so I'm looking forward to the remaining 5 issues, after which I may even resubscribe. Really, the magazine's so good it might actually be worth paying for. The feature on Namco X Capcom was great, and on the whole, it's good to see that something rose from the ashes of GameFan.

I get too many magazines as it is.  When I cleaned out my room and painted it a few months back I threw away like 10 years worth of magazines (spread over several magazines)  Most were crappy ones I gave up all hope on years ago.... GamePro for example.  Now I get Offical US PlayStation Magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Nintendo Power, Game Informer, and Entertainment Weekly.  I don't think I missed any.

Yeah, so, got my second issue of HGMa while ago, it still rocks.  However, I also just got my first issue of the new NP today and I have to say, it's awesome.  I'm extrememly impressed with the new style and content, and I'll definitley be subsribing.

Anyway, to the point: Is anyone still getting Gamepro?  It's been over two years now, it looks like I'll be recieving gamepro forever

I'm still getting TrashPro magazine =D

Are you and I two of their valued non-customers?  It's perfect cuz they keep sending these non-magazines, which end up in the trash.

Yeah, I still get GameProtoo.  I don't think it's been a full two years ... but it's definitely been more than a year and a half.  I usually glance through it.  It's fun--you learn about all the news you heard about 2 months ago on the Internet.  The reviews are complete crap, but there's the occasional good preview or article.

I've been getting GamePro for YEARS. And I never resubscribe, they just keep showing up! And it is the WORST gaming magazine of all time. I like Nintendo Power better, I have a hundred back issues of NP as well.

But these days the only gaming mag I subscribe to and CARE about is EGM. They just get the best interviews and everything is so well written. Although I have been thinking of a Game Informer subscription. I always check that one out when I'm killing time at Hastings.

Game Informer's a solid magazine, in my opinion. Although some of thier scores will throw you for a loop, their Opinion section will often feature a pretty great editorial. Not to mention the exclusives - one every month, for better or for worse.
