Microsoft may license Xbox software
« on: June 30, 2005, 10:47:14 AM »
http://edition.cnn.com/2005/TECH/fun.games/06/30/microsoft.xbox.ap/index.html

Does this mean that company XYZ can buy the X360 software and use it for other purposes than gaming? What the heck does that mean? Could my powerfull PC run X360 software?

Desperate or smart?

I'm not sure if that's what that means, but if so, I'd say smart.  Very smart.

Let some other company lose money on the hardware.  If Microsoft still earns licensing fees, it's a win-win situation for MS.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I don't know. If that *is* what it means, then consoles might dissappear in the near future....

Joking aside, if there is no hardware needed (only one that is able to run software), will this enable the console (software) to exist forever? I see MS releasing patches for their console software, upgrading graphs and such. So what do we get? PC gaming instead of console gaming.

I don't know, would someone explain the article?

Actually no, like we all know that Nintendo licensed the Gamecube to Panasonic and thats how the Panasonic Q-Gamecube was born. And the licensing software can also mean to make merchandise such as shirts, toys and what now or simply just to use the likeness of a character in X game kinda like how Nintendo let Namco use link in soul calibur for cube, Mario for Mario Baseball, Mario Kart Arcade Star Fox for SF:Assault  or how Nintendo let EA use Super Punch out, Little Mac for Fight Night Round 2 and Mario, Luigi ,Peach for NBA street V3.

They're not doing it, Microsoft officially denied it.

Could you provide a link? I just checked CNN and there's nothing. The story is still there.
