What will Zelda look like next time?
« on: February 18, 2003, 05:51:20 AM »
For better or worse, I think that the next game in the Legend of Zelda series is going to go for yet another new "look".   Any thoughts on what the next game might look like?  Or what you would like it to look like?

Nintendo will most likely use cel-shading, although I don't want them to.  I want a "realisitc" non-cel shaded zelda game with lots of poly's and texture and bump-mapping and months upon months of work put into making it look great.  I hate cel-shading.  I don't care if its innovative, I don't care if its "different" and new, and a "needed" change, I DONT CARE.  I want my Zelda the way I want it, yes, just like the Spaceworld 2000 demo.  That is how Zelda SHOULD be IMO.  And, I dont care if I sound like an immature, unexperienced gamer.  This is what I want.  Cel-shading should be left to those "other" games.  I would have liked cel-shading for Mario Sunshine, but I don't like it for Zelda.   I know everything that I have said has been said before, but once again,  I don't care.
it was time for a change.

Depends on the trend in the industry at the time- you can expect for Nintendo to do whatever the trend is NOT. Miyamoto himself stated that if a realistic style would suit the game better, he'll go with that. Basically whatever suits the game best.

It also depends on the nature of the second game- in other words, if it's going to be a new main game (like OoT or LttP) or a gaiden to Wind Waker (like MM to OoT or LA to LttP). If it's a new main game, expect a different visual style. If it's a gaiden, I think it's safe to assume that it'll be cel-shaded.

Marcus: I don't have any problem with people who don't like the cel-shaded design, but instead of bashing it, how about cheering for what you would like?  Would you like the next game to look exactly like the Zelda demo, or even more realistic?  I thought the N64 games and the Spaceworld demo were more like 3D anime than "real life".

Personally, I don't think it's going to be cel-shaded...or at least if it is, I think it will look different from Wind Waker.  Unless Wind Waker quite a bit more popular in the rest of the world than it was in Japan.
