Mario & Luigi 2
« on: May 17, 2005, 10:17:40 AM »
Say what you will about the rest of the conference, but this is one title I'm buying a DS for. I loved the original...

I'm wondering what role Baby Mario and Luigi play in this one... with 4 controllable characters, seems like things will get a lot more chaotic.

Maybe there's a wifi coop mode?

I missed this...now see, games like this should have gotten more attention than, say, Mario Party 7.  Or Electroplankton for that matter...but I appreciate that they might want to hype up a game that a lot of people aren't crazy for yet.

Edit: My mistake, I know lots of people that are interested in it (not "nobody"), but it's not like a new Mario game that most people will buy on reputation.

How are they gonna explain the babies bieng there.  Will it actually be their children, or do we just accept it?
It may be simple, but it ain't easy.

Ian wins...

And you thought their last adventure was insane? In this sequel to Mario & Luigiā„¢: Superstar Saga, the brothers travel back in time to retrieve Princess Peach, only to come face to face with baby versions of themselves, the princess and Bowser. Teaming up with their young selves will soon send Marioā„¢ and Luigi on a quest of lunatic proportions as players must control both the adult AND baby versions of the Mushroom Kingdom heroes. Players use the top screen to study the land, keep track of the pair of brothers not under their control or maximize combo moves in battle. With twice the Mario brothers and twice the laughs, this massive side-splitting adventure could only find a home on the dual screens of the Nintendo DS.

First off, awesome plot.

Secondly, I adored the first game, and this sounds like it'll be just as awesome and original.  Made by the same people, I assume?  This is a must-buy for me.  This made my E3, in fact

The DS is shaping up to own handheld gaming like never before. I don't remember the last time one E3 had so many DS games I wanted. This is one of the top ones. I LOVED the first one. Blasted through it as fast as possible and then cried when it ended.

That's not hard.  Last year was the first E3 for the DS and at the time all they had was tech demos.

I think he means "so many handheld games I want"

do they mean you actually get to control 4 characters at once.  That would be crazy if they could pull it off with the same level of control that the first one had.

I'm glad they're doing the time-travel story, because with all the Mario spin-offs starting to cram the babies and the adult Bros. together, I was beginning to fear they'd just tie all the timelines into one.  People are also starting to mix up Bowser Jr. and Baby Bowser, which annoys me - not like it matters, though.

I will go out on a limb here and venture that the DS acrtually has the strongest playable lineup of any platform at the show...for me. Especially if you include the GBA's upcoming awesome RPGs to fill that hole.

And Baby Princess Peach......my gawd, she might just overflow my cuteness receptors...never a pretty sight when that happens.

I guess that this is one of those games thats a bit more difficult to pick up and play.  I toyed around with it for about 5 mins or so, and wasn't overly impressed.  It could definately come back to surprise me though.  My money is going towards New Mario Bros., Mario Kart, and Meteos.  (all M games apparently)
