Temorary inconvienence, soon it will not only have sound, but it will be quite a few less steps, making the whole process alot more acheivable for Joe Schmo.

When that happens not only will you be playing all your games for free, but so will everyone else(until a new firmware patch is released)

If Lumines without sound sucks count me out, I don't play handheld games with sound. That just annoys other people nearby or requires headphones and I'm not using headphopnes just for playing a portable game.

As for the firmware patches, that just means the warez users can't buy new games, they have to warez them all.

no that means they don't have to buy new games, they can download them all
firmware will continue to be cracked

not that  I promote or participate in piracyi do not own a PSP or a DS, but that means that the window is now open for home brew specifically developed for the PSP, and that should mean some very simple (but imaginative) games that should hopefully take advantage of the PSP hardware

Not really, homebrew for cracked platforms usually boils down to ports and clones. Those with a genuine good idea use a platform they can market the idea on, i.e. the PC.

a new handy tool for people with psp version 1.0 and 1.5 who dont want to upgrade their psp's to play certain games (new games that need versioni X to play)

here the explanation

Version Changer v0.2 for PSP
--------------------------------

Yoshihiro from Wab has released version 2 of the Wab version changer. “This is described as the First Firmware Trick for Games that need Firmware 1.52 to run on your PSP and Cant Run UPDATER 1.52 or 2.0. The System thinks it's a PSP v1.52 ,v1.0 ,v2.0 even if its a v1.5 or 1.0.

Unrar the file and put the Folders into :
X:/PSP/GAMES/
Then follow the instructions on the screen

START : Quit without change
Square : Trick to Firm v1.0
Circle : Back to Firm v1.5
Cross : Trick to Firm v1.52
Triangle : Trick to Firmware v2.0
When is done you can go to System Settings => System Information and Check Your System Version :=) Then launch the game! Enjoy!!â€

------------------------------------------------

the app just maskarades the system version as the one requested, it does not actually update the system with the extra API bits that come with the new versions above 1.5. so if a game actually takes use of some APIs introduced in 2.0 or 1.52 and you try to fool it with this loader then it will plainly crash. now, the API differeces between 1.5 and 1.52 are rumored to be nil, so you may be successful with running 1.52 games. but that most likely will be it. so don't expect too much.

no link as to where to find this firmware trick, but I'm sure its not hard to find if you know where to look

No, not until they find a way to reflash PSPs that were built after 1.51.

PSP mod chip allows multi flash use and homebrew play
Quote

Forget battling against Sony to get your beloved homebrew on the PSP console, we have received news that a new PSP mod is set to hit the scene called Undiluted Platinum (UP). This mod will act as a flash replacement system for the PSP which allow the use of previous flash updates or custom flash builds. Installation has been optimized to fit entirely inside PSP, this opens up the possibility to run unsigned Homebrew code on the latest PSP systems. More info will be available next week! This is 100 percent real just incase you had any doubts.

PSP is now officially 100% hacked and unless sony can think up a way to reject the mod chip, people will never need to buy a PSP game again(or GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES, etc. etc.).

sony cant stop the chip?
yes they can, with psp allowing firmware
they could easly make it detect it aka what microsoft did with xbox live
sony could make the modder life very difficult... and I bet they will

well if they can get this "flash replacement" mod chip to mimic the original flash chip exactly, then I doubt the PSP could tell the difference. Since you can apparently switch from one flash bios to another you could startoff witht he most current flash bios, and then switch to the oldest one that allows homebrew and emulation.

The U.P. (Undiluted Platinum) is a flash replacement system for the PSPâ„¢ which allows the use of previous flash updates or custom firmware builds, opening up the possibility to run unsigned homebrew code on even the latest PSP systems. The U.P. contains 32MB NAND flash which is programmable from the PC via a high speed USB connection, using our user friendly software. You may boot the PSP from either its onboard flash or the flash contained on the U.P; the flash which is used is determined by a button press as the PSP is powered on (U.P. flash is used by default, hold L1 to use the PSP onboard flash). Since U.P. provides a secondary flash which the PSP can boot from, it can even be used to restore a PSP which has been "bricked". Every effort has been made to make our flash updater software, which will be freely available for download, both as easy to use and reliable as possible. The software also contains diagnostics which can be used by installers to determine if an installation has been successful or not.

Suggested Retail price: 75 Euro's/ $90 US
I don't think there is much Sony can do to prevent this, since you still have your original flash intact.

Even if Sony released an update that caused the PSP to simply explode on start up, this chip simply bypasses Sony's firmware.  To use a car analogy, say you built a flying car, and for some reason the government doesn't like it. They can upgrade the roads all they like to try to stop flying cars but the people using the flying cars are unlikely to even notice as they're taking a diffround route compleatly.

oh I dunno then
I still think the a firm wear will be able to detect the item installed, but dunno what it could do

plus?
they said its updated by connecting to pc... does that mean u need to hack the psp case to add the port?
or would u need to take it part if the firmware stops working?
because that point makes it sound like u cant update it by just installing files off the flash

Minus PSP and GBA Roms, how is downloading Roms for older systems bad? Seriously, Is there some hidden store that I'm not aware of where I can actually buy NES, SNES, N64, GB and GBC games where the money actually goes to Nintendo. The only people Roms hurt are the resellers who sell used copies and Nintendo dosen't get a cent of that.

Now sure once the Virtual Console is up and running I can see how ROMs will hurt Nintendo, but right now they don't.

Anyway I finally desided to get a PSP for all the homebrew stuff and the fact that most PSP games can now run off memory sticks. I recently got a 1GB memory stick for $25 which can fit at least 2 PSP games at any given time and I have the ability to pick up a PSP for $130. I have no desire to run GBA game on my PSP since I have my DS for that and I love to suport Nintendo. But I really don't plan on ever buying a PSP game. And it would be no hard feelings if the PSP and Sony crashed and burned. If I don't buy games for Sony systems that just gives more reason for my favioret developers to suporting Nintendo more and drop Sony suport.

Sure it will hurt them in 4-5 months, but pft. I mean stealing from a store that opens next month isn't hurting them right now, will when they open though, but the important thing is that it's not hurting them RIGHT NOW. Can't argue with that logic.

What I was getting to was that If it wasn't for the fact that Nintendo was introducing the Virtual Console what other means do we really have for getting the older games?
As it stands for me the only way I can get NES, SNES, GB, and GBC games is to go on to eBay. And Soon PSOne and N64 games are going to join that list since GameStop and EB will no longer carry those games too. And don't get me started on how much of a pain in the ass it is to get old games fairly cheap on eBay, I was trying to get a copy of Silent Hill recently and it was going to cost me about $60.

I never understood the whole argument for why ROMs were bad, sure I can see why they are bad for games that are currently on the market but the older games it never made sense.
