this 2005 thing will bite them

Hah! How can Rare not delay? Remember that the games from them that were mentioned, Kameo and PD0, were supposed to come out for GameCube at or near launch.

I wouldn't be surprised, frankly, to see them bumped back to Microsoft's next console: XBox sqrt(-1).

Perfect Dark 0 looks like f*cking sh!t.

That felt good.  I think I'll say it again.

Perfect Dark 0 looks like f*cking sh!t.

Weeeeee!

This is as I expected.  MS has jumped the gun on going to a new console and there's no wow factor.  With every console except the PS2 I've been really impressed with my first look.  I'm not impressed here.  There's no desire for more info.  It's just whatever.  Those games look good and the changes to Live sound good but it's not a big enough leap.  I feel much more confident now in Nintendo.  I think the ball is in their court and they just have to not f*ck up and they should be able to compete pretty well against this.  If the Rev concept is actually cool and worthwhile it should be an advantage provided Nintendo doesn't screw something else up, like having weaker graphics or something.

PD0 looked a lot better when it had that anime look.  They've made it generic.  It's now Halo with a chick and Xbox doesn't need another Halo.

Of course I thought the original Xbox didn't have the games and MS didn't have the know-how to compete with Nintendo and Sony and they more or less kicked Nintendo's ass everywhere but Japan.  I'm certain the Rev will be better than this (if's it not it's got to be a complete piece of crap) but marketing and how the public responds to this is the unknown factor.  I'm not wowed but I'm not Microsoft's target market either.

I never thought I'd stick up for Microsoft, but right now I actually feel sorry for them.

I'm willing to bet that PD0 won't actually look that bad. Maybe they just put placeholder graphics while they worked on gameplay?

As a Nintendo fan im frigging looking forward to it...  the bar was set soo low by microsoft that they could just release some alpha screens and destroy the 360 hype...

I don't have MTV but right now I'm downloading from gametrailers.com the unvieling of "this console" so if anyone is interested go right ahead and watch for yourself, just for curiosity of course.

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA....HAHAHA!

The people in this "unvieling" of the xbox 360 video that they have at gametrailers.com are soooo lame. Microsoft has yet to make my eyebrow twitch in surprise of something new or innovative. I say xbox360=xbox v1.01. I know in this vid they don't show any footage however if they think they can get more people to buy "it" with this type of info-vid than I sure hope Nintendo does oppposite of what Microsoft does.

I see that I wasn't the only one that was underwhelmed. I didn't see anything form a graphical stand point that couldn't be done on a decent PC. Perfect Dark Zero looked like an X-box game WTF. Did you guys catch the part about how many polygons made up characters in PD0? Joanna Dark is 5,000 polygons....that half the polygon count of Leon in RE4. The Ganado's are 5,000 polys. Pathetic. I always though MS launching a year earlier was a mistake. Especially with the current X-box, well out side of Japan, have the most momentum right now. Is been outselling the PS2 in the US for over  year now and it doesn't seem to be winding down near as fast as the GC or PS2. MS should have launched next year with PS3 and Revolution.....with the momentum they have they would have took a serious chunk out of Sony's market share at launch.

Not sure if this was mentioned:

The controllers appear to be bluetooth....

Hence why the system would have a "wireless binding button".... also, "up to 4 controllers can be bound"

Also, the system still has an ethernet port, so you would need a ethernet wireless bridge to connect your 360 wirelessly

We all knew this is what it would be...  MS further whoring out the 'specs' of the machine...  I don't know why you are all so quick to judge...  MS is gonna remain what the are in the gaming industry until the MTV gamers get bored.

The Xbox 360 story = better graphics (usually), and now with wireless.

Whoopie.

If PD0 is their big launch title, they've got a problem.

What's the biggest difference between Silver and Gold Live (other than the price)? I'm not really clear on that.

I just caught the replay. Me and a friend watched it together. Very poor showing for MS. I know it's MTV and all, but jesus please show us some GAMEPLAY. Hell, you could barely catch a good glimpse of the console itself unless you could focus through all the jump cuts. My first thoughts after seeing the console around normal stuff was that it's still pretty damn big. Not as big as Xbox, but up there. The customizable plates was a disappointment. I thought it would change the face and the top, but it only changes the face. People tend to be sheep, but I really hope the buying public doesn't buy into this celebrity showing.

The games were the most underwhelming thing. Besides that one racing game (I couldn't catch the name because all the footage was being cut so fast), none of the games really look next-gen worthy. The framerates looked very smooth, but there was no wow factor. And then there was PD0. YIKES. The new look was very disappointing. It seems contradictory that a spy would have big frilly red hair. And the game was very unfinished at this point. IMO they were better off not putting that on TV at all. An E3 crowd could be potentially wowed by such an early reel, but the MTV watching consumer I doubt would really care.

Call me oldschool, but there's no way anyone can't see through this mainstream pandering. A half hour analysis on G4TTV or something similar would have seemed a bit more realistic, but I guess that's not the demographic MS is shooting for. The problem is, with what they had to offer I don't think ANY demograpic would be very impressed.

EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention, did anyone else get a good laugh out of how their gaming timeline totally glossed over every important event before MS entered gaming? I realize it's not good to promote your competition, but they showed Atari and the Genesis, yet no NES, SNES, PSX, PS2? Only box pictures of Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros.? "First there was Pong, then Atari came out, then through the 80s and 90s some sh!t came out, THEN CAME XBOX." Felt incredibly fake.

HILARITY!

That Tony Hawk game looked worse than Tony Hawk Underground on GC. Perfect Dark Zero was embarassingly pathetic from what they showed (which wasn't much), which pretty much throws out any chance of me buying an Xbox 360. I thought Ghost Recon was the best looking game, too bad it's Ghost Recon though.

EDIT: Alright, there's a high chance PD0 will be fun, but from what I can see right now, it doesn't look like it's worth paying a million dollars on an Xbox 360 for it. (more like Xbox 404)

I want to understand why PD0 is only 20 FPS.

That's just ridiculous. For graphics that crappy the framerate should be smooth...

Good to see Rare devastated a console's framerate before it even came out though.

Man... I had always credited Rare for being able to make good looking games when it came down to it, even if the gameplay area of late was lacking, but this... well, if the final build is anything like this I will pretty much shut up on any praise I would give related to what they have become.

Perhaps MS put their foot down, and told Rare to work at a normal pace to get PD0 out as a launch title, and this is what the result of Rare not taking forever on something is.

There is another replay on the 15th at 9 AM. Warning: Record it so you can keep your finger on the fast forward button.

It takes skill to make an interview segment with Rare a complete waste of time.

Seriously, MTV must have been in charge of directing/editing the show. There's nobody else in TV that'd think it was a good idea to show mere seconds of product footage, but have 2 full music performances. And have a game tournament with more CROWD shots than in-game action shots.

But who really wants to see the game in progress when we can just watch the crowd count down to zero as time runs out?

All image, no substance. MTV's calling card.

I think Perfect Dark 0 looks okay, but only marginally better than an Xbox title.  I'll save my Rare fanboy-ism for the Banjo thread.  I agree that there's no way I'm putting hundreds of dollars into an Xbox 360 to play games that only look marginally better than Xbox titles.

Even the shots from Ghost Recon and Test Drive, which look quite a bit better than PD 0, don't leave me all that impressed.  More and more I feel like Nintendo has the right idea - graphics aren't going to leap ahead that much this generation.  Maybe the general public will still buy into the 360 for the minor graphical upgrade it offers, but from my point of view, the system fails to justify its existence (so far).
That's my opinion, not yours.
