Its supposedly gonna be wireless as standard, and the big button in the middle lights up when pressed signaling that the wireless controller is on.

at least that is what I have heard ......

edit: And hopefully the ABXY buttons get a little larger and the controller is the size of the type S

It looks a litle larger than a controler S... If its got Wireless. And an extra plug for Xbox live communicator it makes sense that it  would be larger

Let's hope that's not anything like what the real controller will be like.  How boring and similar to the current xbox controller  Looks as if you can hardly wrap your hands around those massive handles.  If this is really close to what it will be then they will undoubtably have the lamest controller of the next gen consoles.  I understand I was quite oppinionated here but heck that pic sort of got me worked up so it's not my fault  Besides, I highly doubt my post is a train wreck would "upgrade" to this controller.

i am going to make a topic on controller wars on the REV board mostly about the track ball; oh yeah here is another pic

http://tinypic.com/2nopj7

i hope the pic works, it shows the shoulder buttons.  i was hoping Nintendo would be the one with the solid white system, damn you MS!  I guess Nintendo will have to launch with silver as the neutral color for REV.

That looks functional... boring, uncomfortable, yes, but functional. Microsoft's obviously been taking a few pointers from Sony.

It is an upgrade though, IMO. There were too many face buttons on the Xbox controller... 4 triggers seems better to me. And you can't go wrong with wireless.

I wonder if there's rumble?

Hmm, that d-pad looks like its been stolen from their terrible PC d-pads...  blah..

Does anyone else find it odd that this picture is all fuzzy like he had to take it quickly, yet he had enough time to flip the controller over and take another one?  I smell hoax.

I'm disappointed that they went with four triggers.  I think with little effort they could have gone with six face buttons like the Saturn and N64 had.  I find that design much easier to deal with.  I'm already used to using my thumb for multiple buttons but not so much with my fingers.  Plus in this case it looks like it's designed to use the middle fingers.  That's just brutal.

Though I'm glad they kept the analog stick in the prime position where it belongs.  I had heard they were going to copy Sony and I was worried we would have two backwards designed controllers with d-pads as the main focus.  I want d-pads to stay but analog control should be encouraged to be the more common standard.

I don't know why so many of you are complaining that it's boring.  Shouldn't a controller be functional?  The chainsaw controller certainly isn't boring but it's useless as well.  I don't want my controller to be "interesting" at the expense of being useful.

I have actually seen pictures that are a lot clearer than that one.  And I've seen a pic of a psp showing off the xbox 2 controller, I'll try and find it again and post a link.

But it's identical to the Xbox controller, which I despise...

Check out the news post over at Games Are Fun.  They have several additional pictures, including the two that are shown on the PSP.

Ugh, more iPod-esque ugly white.  The controller is fine (if a bit uninspired) except for that HORRIBLE white.

I'm surprised this is coming from you Ian, heretofore a staunch advocate of inclusiveness. Why can't it be both? What's wrong with having the option of a nice pad to look at to satisfy the shallow person in all of us? Who says functionality and aesthetics are mutually exclusive?

Well I guess it can be both but it's not like a make or break thing.  This isn't exactly like graphics in a game where you're staring at it the whole time.  A controller is a tool.  If it's well designed you don't even look at the damn thing while you're playing.  I guess if it was interesting and functional that would be better but with a controller I think sacrficing appearance for functionality is a worthwhile tradeoff.

You're absolutely right, Stimutacs.  Except the GameCube was not stylized after a popular electronic product line that others have insisted look cool.  I made such a broad statement because folks like StrikerObi keep going on about how cool and sleek the iPod looks, and I simply disagree.  Also note that I did not dismiss the controller as bad becasue I didn't like its color.

The handles look rather uncomfortable, and the controller itself is ugly, to say the least.  Mostly, though, it's just boring.  This is why my money is on Nintendo next generation.
That's my opinion, not yours.

OMG!  The Xbox Next is a bald man!

So I guess it's that white PC thingy?  Looks more like a dev kit.  I assume that half steering wheel thingy is a handle though the odd shape makes it look more like a big ugly peice of unwieldy crap.  It's like bizarro world design.  People complained that the Xbox was unstackable so they make it vertical with a weird handle so that's it's completely unstackable.  Well done.  The thing looks insanely tall as well though in relation to that guy it's probably smaller overall.

It was stated somewhere else that that is their decoy kit to demonstrate the technology inside, and the Nextbox would not look like that.

Yeah, the iPod is a hit with the public, I mean, even my sister noticed it out of a huge pile of MP3 players, pointed at it and said "Urk, that's ugly".

Remember, MS went through many shapes with the XB, wouldn't surprise me if those were real yet we'd see a completely different system on the shelves.
