Just reread that gameinformer article
« on: March 30, 2005, 05:20:50 PM »
omg, i just reread that game informer article, and i just hav say this...

I hate them. They sound like complete idiots, I'm sorry but I mean... as an extreme nintendo fan reading this just made me sick. They try to make it look like there supporting it, and ignoring how stupid the touch screen sounds. Ugh! Its just so AGGRIVATING!!!! Here, I'll copy it all out for yall too....

"Of course, the final piece to the puzzle that may change the entire landscape for both Microsoft and Sony is Nintendo. However, Nintendo may have to pull a rabbit out of its hat to be become a major player in the next generation.
That rabbit, Game Informer has learned, is a touch screen. A source at a major development studio recently revealed to us details regarding Nintendo's development kit for the Revolution and the various guidelines Nintendo is providing to the publishing community regarding its new machine.
The most shocking is that the Revolution uses a touch screen as its controller. There is no analong stick or shoulder buttons. The touch screen on the face of the controller is designed to be fully customizable. So, the developer can configure the buttons any way they see fit, or in other cases not use buttons at all, instead opting for virtual levers or other stylus-related inputs. While an intriguing design idea, it's tough to imagine pressing buttons or directing your onscreen persona without the tactile feedback you get from a standard controller.
This also limits a publisher's ability to simply port games created for other platforms quickly and easily to the Revolution. In fact, our source states that Nintendo is actually requiring developers to take advantage of unique toch screen aspects if it wants to get approval for release.
There are some exciting gameplay possibilities that this design can facilitate, namely control panels for flight games, or a wide assortment of customized inputs for specific genres, like the ability to target in an FPS by simply moving your finger across the face of the controller layout that gamers have become accustomed to could pontentially alienate some of Nintendo's audience.
All other technical data on the Revolution at this time is scarce. So, how the machine will match up against Sony and Microsoft's next generation hardware is difficult to determine. However, in our talks with various publishers, many are skeptical of how well it will fare in the market. Which may once again leave Nintendo supporting its own console, hopefully with unique and compelling games from its always-outstanding first-party (Thats the one thing i like, lol..) development studios."

Thats the Nintendo part of the huge article on the next generation. Now I just spent a lot of time rewriting that so, could yall please take the time discuss it.

So they pretty much made up a bunch of stuff.  They said all that as if it was the honest truth, when Iwata has stated that they won't use touch screens.  And then to make the tale more believable they acted as if they supported it.

I really dislike gaming publications.
It may be simple, but it ain't easy.

I read that a while back.  This is why I have been so agitated about the touch screen rumors.  More and more media outlets are saying they have confirmed information that says there will be touch screens on the Revolution controller instead of analog sticks, buttons, and triggers.  I know we need to wait and see what exactly they will do, but there is only so much you can do with touch tech before it gets expensive.  Buttons with touch screens on them?  A while back I suggested maybe the whole controller is screen.  It could flash when you shoot a gun, or the developer could map the image of a gun over the entire controller.  It could be two circle touch screens that feature some kind of analogue dpad/wheel function.

I like to think of it this way. Since gameinformer is quite a large publication when revolution is revealed they are the ones that are going to have egg on their faces when what they have stated is CONFIRMED & THE TOTAL TRUTH is actually conjecture and lies.  All this will do is make their readers look elsewhere for news because of their incompetence.

Dont get tangled up in their web of lies, they are obviously:
a.) very ignorant and oblivious to whats happening in the gaming world
b.) anit-nintendo and want to spin rumours to make more people doubt nintendo or jump across to their competitors
c.) all of the above
Whats at the end?

Ive heard that touching technology so far can only read on point being pressed, so games will be in a way that you can only use one "virtual" button at a time? Nintendo will never do that, I cant believe a gaming magazine could believe such thing.

I hate to rag on them, since Billy Berghammer(PGC's founder)  is associated with them, but they seem to drop the ball more than a few times. I remember they were the first to break the first look at RE 4, saying the game took place in South America. Capcom, when they did their official press release regarding the re-vamped RE 4, it took place in southern Europe. Idiot that I am, believed Game Informer over Capcom, and to this day still kind of irks me. Needless to say, I didn't reknew. Granted, this a relitively minor misprint, but when you're allowed one of the juicest stories, you kind of want to make sure all the T's and I's are crossed and dotted.

Anyway, with the big N, there seems to be no rumors, just speculation. We'll find out soon enough if their mole's are right or wrong. If they're right, I'll change my opinon of them. If not, maybe they should consider knitting?

Guys, I have a source that can not be named, who works at a company I can not say, who is currently developing several Nintendo Revolution games. He told me what was so special about the console and WOW this is going to blow Sony and M$ away, it's amazing. Here's a hint: Look around you.

Ok, so I can expect:
1) Stacks of blank and used CD-R's
2) A cup of apple juice
3) Candy
4) A book entitled L'Empire De Napoléon
5) A mysterious pair of glasses
6) Empty candy wrappers

The REV. DEV kits aren't even out yet.

Bull. Iwata stated they have been given to first and second party developers and assorted licensees. If you wonder why not more, N is completely paranoid about their dev kits, they are afraid any smaller devs might leak information to "the enemy".

Well of course first and second party developers have them.  For some time, I'd venture to say.  I'm talking about a 3rd party developers.  Isn't that what matters?  I find it a little troubledsome that two of the top 3rd party developers DO NOT HAVE THEM.  Hopefully, they'll be out soon so these xbox fanboys I deal with will just be quite for a few minutes.

from what i can tell from what iwata said is that some of the japanbese devlopers have the system, but not  the western devlopers. I am sure first and second party devlopers have had devlopment kits for a very long time now, but third parties are only now getyting them. I am sure there will probably be alot more output from Niuntendo themseleves for the next generatuion as opposed to this one. I'm betting alot of tittles are far along for revolution.

Yeah, I'm getting the feeling that the Rev will have a very strong launch lineup.  As for western developers not having any, that could be as a result of the Rev coming out here later than in Japan.  Also, I forgot where I read it, but one of the rumors going around about the touch screen controller was supposed to have come from a worker in EA.  I'm guessing that some studios in the US could have developement kits.  I wouldn't find it hard to believe that EA would have them.
