If there's any quirky game that'd make a good DS game, this is it...I've yet to pick up the console version, and if the DS version is good, I just may pass it up...

Yay!  Now I can play Katamari Damacy without a PS2.  This has quickly become possibly my most anticipated DS release, assuming it turns out right.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I hope it isn't just a port.  It would be nice if they took some aspects to the next level and maybe added some new modes.

I'm hoping that they don't mess up the control somehow.  The dual analouge thing was a lot of fun, and I'm curious too see how this is going to work.  What I'd like to see is similiar to pac and roll.  Where you rub the bottom screen like a ball, and it would be like rolling the katamari around.  I can see that being fun, but maybe not that accessible.
It may be simple, but it ain't easy.

Awesome.  This game sounded very cool, but I don't have a PS2.  So yay!  I have no idea how the PS2 version controlled, but I imagine touch-control would work quite well.  Rubbing the screen to turn a sphere was a microgame in Touched! and it worked fine, so I can't imagine this being any harder.  I can also imagine some nifty single-cart multiplayer modes, such as a race to pick up the most objects or a hunt for a specific object.

The controls for Katamari Damacy is simply the use of the dual analogs. That's it unless you count the L&R triggers to rotate the camera.  I don't know if using the touch screen would be optimal just as how Mario 64 DS didn't have the flawless controls of its N64 counterpart. That's if if they're doing a straight port however.

If they do an original version, or somehow tweak the port to accomadate the touch screen, I'll stand corrected.

I can imagine if they include multiplayer for more than 2 players. Oh the madness of rolling balls....

Well you could rub the screen in the direction you wanted the ball to go. And use either the action buttons or the d-pad to control the camera angle.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

I'm guessing they're going to use a control setup very similar to Pac n Roll.  Pac n Roll requires you to be much more precise than what I've played of Katamari Damacy, so I suspect it will be a good fit.

I'd guess something more like the Blender view rotation, grab the ball in the center to move it, grab it near the "edge" to turn it. You can easily add spin to it that way.

I have a PS2 but some idiot decided that Kd wouldn't sell in Europe so I still don't have it. Man, if this and Xenosaga DS come over here I'd almost question why I bought a PS2.

The game rocks for the PS2. The controls are flawless. Really easy game to pick up and have fun with. The DS version i would think probably plays similar to the snowball mini game for Wario in Mario DS, but with better control. Never played the pac n' roll but the demo did seem to require precise controls. Either way the game is going to be great.

Yeah, KD rules on PS2.  The controls are pretty easy:

Both analog sticks up - moves ball forward (away from camera)
Left analog up, right analog down - turn right
Right analog up, left analog down - turn left
Both analog stick back - moves ball back (towards camera)

You could emulate these basic controls pretty easily with the touch screen.  There are other controls (if I remember correctly, pushing down both analog sticks turns you 180 degrees) but this is about as complicated as KD gets.  It's an awesome game, I can't wait to see the DS version.

YES!  This is like the best news ever.  I've so wanted to play this game, it's basically the only game I've really wanted to play for the PS2, and now it'll be coming to a Nintendo system!  Yes yes yes!  This just made my day, so awesome.

Yes!!   KD is one of my favorite games of all time!  I want a portable version right now!

It would be perfect to control the Katamari with the touch screen.

KDR_11k I'm sure most would say that the katamari controls like an RC car.  If most people think Tank then I had a pretty bland childhood.

(edit)  TV man, i never really liked tilt sensors.  I suppose I woulnd't mind it as an option, but even then I don't think it would work all to well for Katamari.

This is the ONLY PS2 game I've ever wanted.  I'm very excited, and I think it seems perfect for touch-screen controls.

Robotor: My RC cars had one front/back slider and one left/right. I've played a tank simulation back on the 286 that used two joysticks to control the threads individually. Never mind that I think individual thread control wouldbe kinda hard to implement on a car unless you had no axises.

I bet it'll be the same way you control the morph ball in Metroid Prime: Hunters.  Just stroke in the direction you want the ball to go.

The only RC car I ever had had two front/back sliders, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.  The car didn't have axis so the wheels could spin independently and you could do "tricks" or whatever.  That's why I enjoyed the little bit of Katamari I did play. It was like driving my old RC car, only I was encouraged to hit things.

I don't think so.  They'd need to fit the sensor into a tiny DS cart.  Seems very unlikely.  So unless it came with a GBA cart that had the tilt sensor in it, I'd say no.

Well if that's the case, then maybe...

D-pad up, X - moves ball forward
D-pad up, B - turn right
X, D-pad down - turn left
D-pad down, B - moves ball back
