Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
« on: March 18, 2005, 10:57:54 AM »
Why isn't there a thread for this game yet?

Anyway, I bought it yesterday and I love it... my arms hurt now.

I never actually thought it would be this fun... reminds me of Tony Hawk back in the day when it was still fun to play. Stringing together combos is awesome.

Would you say the game is worth ten extra dollars for the bongos, if I don't intend to buy any of the Donkey Kong games (ie, I'll probably only use the bongos for this game)?
I'm definitely interested in this, it looks absolutely awesome, I'm just wondering if it's worth the investment.

I hear the game is pretty bad without the bongos.  If you're interested in getting this, the bongos are a must purchase.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

The game is very short but very fun and the fun factor can warrant more replay value if you want to top your high score. The game is 39.99 without bongos and 54.99 with bongos. (U.S. price)

Yeah, if you're going to buy this game at all, you need the bongos. Just think of them as part of the game.

I should have gotten this with the bongos, seeing as it would be like getting another pair for $15....ah well.  I didn't pay for it, my brother did.

Anywho, awesome game.  I've had a few problems with clap detection, which is very annoying when it happens, but it really is amazing how well the game controls using only two giant buttons and a mic.  The controls aren't flawless, but they work surprisingly well.  Playing with the regular controller is terrible, though, so get the bongos (and then you can get Konga 2!)The game isn't TOO short on its own, but the replay value is where it's at.  My wrists are killing me ;____;

Combos are hard ;_____;

I hear if you whack the sides of the bongos it'll be more likely to pick up than if you clap.
Yeah, I was going to buy it with bongos or not at all.  Looks like I'll go for it, though.  Thanks, guys.  I may even get Konga 2, if it's cheap enough or something.

The only big annoyance I had with the game is that bosses are repeated. they are just harder versions of the same previous  boss.

I am loving this game so much I can't believe it. We've unlocked most everything I beleive, but my brother and I are still trying ot get the platinum metals. I say it is so worth a buy. And as far as the clap detection goes, I adjust it to where it works perfect for me. You can adjust the clap sensor you know in the options menu. This is the Donkey Kong game I have been waiting for since DKC2; DKC3 and 64 were pretty crappy to me.

Quick question:  If you rent this game (or Donkey Konga) from Blockbuster, do they include the bongos?

I haven't been to a Blockbuster in  years, so I have no idea how they work anymore...

MattOz I highly doubt it because blockbuster rarely rents out hardware more. And Im taking a hunch that Blockbuster only bought the game as standalones not  the ones with the bongos.

The first stage of the Grape Kingdom has convinced me that Nintendo Tokyo is on the same stuff the NiGHTS team was on.

This game is awesome, but physically tiring! I've found I actually have to rest a day after playing through one of the later stages (and facing a boss who just wouldn't freakin DIE)

Hands down this game is awesome...and coming from a relatively busy person, it isn't short at all.  This is the direction the DK series needs to go in.  It isn't just another platform...it is a whole new game concept...  I hope we see many more games like this in the future.

If this was actually longer, my hands wouldn't be able to take the abuse. It's a shame there's no extras though for getting all the Platinums.

I took it to my job today and showed them how it worked and I was surprised at how much fun they had. They thought it looked complicated, I don't see how with 3 "buttons." But after they played it they had a blast and found after a few minutes it was pretty easy. Most just thought it looked and felt so cool to hop around all over the place and sock the crap out of enemies like that.

Okay, this is high on my list of must-haves, now.  Between the awesome review and all of you, I decided to buy it (bongos and all, of course).  I'll probably just go with the birthday shindig, considering I'm not going to have any money to buy it with.  I'm definitely looking forward to it, though.

I really wish I had the money for this game.  Gotta make some use out of those bongos, outside of the Konga games.
It may be simple, but it ain't easy.

Ok guys, I've just finished beating Ghastly King -- you need 51 crests to get to him -- and saw the end credits.  As those who have finished the game knows, there are little gameplay clips that are shown during the credits.  One of the clips shows DK landing from a bird with over 3000 beats!  My question is, does anybody know what level that was done in and how?

Holy crap.. I got this a few days ago, and this might be my favourite game of all time.

If you haven't played it, GO BUY IT RIGHT NOW.

I can not find a single flaw in this game, besides my hands hurting from playing too much. It's like.. old Sonic mixed with old Mario mixed with tons of brilliant new things that feel like they were awesome games that should have come out ages ago but never did, all wrapped up in graphics as beautiful as Wind Waker.
