Picto-Chat
« on: March 13, 2005, 12:37:09 PM »
I've wondered this ever since Picto-Chat was announced at E3 2004, and now with the free DS Online plan announced it feels like the right time to ask...will Picto-Chat ever be online?  There's no real practical use for it with this limited 100 foot range.

If you can upgrade the firmware, definitely. Otherwise, not likely.

I was hoping the same, it'd be nice to have that over long distances.  It's practically useless as is, yeah.

It would be like having a free phone... except without the talking part... wait... DS has a microphone! Too bad Pictochat doesn't have a voice function.

Seeing as there is a headset port, I'm thinking an XBox Live-ish thing may be going on with DS online.  Maybe even VoIP...?

That'd be great. If they could some how use the GBA port to add in a camera to use with Picto Chat too then that'd be awesome.

Uh, no... why the need for a clunky annoying headset when the DS has both speakers and a microphone already on it?

because you'd have to talk right into the mic on your DS. It won't come out clearly unless you talk loudly from far away. You don't necessarily need the headphones part, but it's nice to have.

I'd just love to write messages long distances. I think they are more usefulcompared to talking, well sometimes.

Yeah, PictoChat is pretty useless right now.

I think Nintendo might somehow find a way to make PC online.

Edit: You know, Nintendo is making wireless voice chat for the DS... perhaps that will be online. And maybe it will be compatible w/ a few games that go online, and make it Xbox Live-ish.

This makes you wonder how they are gonna handle online match making at all.  Are the names we register on the DS gonna become screen names?  That'd be pretty sweet but then there would surely be duplicates so some people would have to rename themselves.

Are you sure that they are making wireless voice chat?

Is it even possible to do the voice chat on the DS. The speakers on it sound good with the games but it would probably break up pretty bad if the music, sound fx and voices go all over those speakers.
I make the impossible.........possible.
