No Posting Contests = Better Posts
« on: February 14, 2003, 08:47:45 AM »
One of the best things, I can already tell, about PGC Forums is that there doesn't seem to be this race to post the most, as there is at so many other forums.  I may have turned it off accidientally or something, but I don't see a post counter or a stat-ranking or anything.  The nice thing about this is that the posts tend to be longer and better thought out, and if you have two or three thoughts, you don't post them all separately, but together.  It's nice.  I'm not brown-nosing, by the way, it's just something I've noticed.  Can't someone say something nice?  Get off my back!!!  ;-)

Thanks, Sean.  That was exactly the intent behind turning off not only the post counter, but the date people registered as well.

By the way, Moderators and Admins can still see both.

Yeah, Rick has 189 posts and has been here since July 2002. None of you will ever come close to that kind of l33tness!

hmm, who's the more brilliant? the forum admins for disabling the post counter, or FuseTalk for including such a feature?

both. I don't quite understand it, but post counts really boosted some people's ego. I wonder if they ever realized that the higher post count they have, the more time they've spent on the boards. more time spent on boards means less time playing videogames.

now, if you ask me, that is not something to be proud of

rodtod, I couldn't have said it better myself.  I have a full-time job, so that combined with the numerous daily duties and responsibilities of adult life, it's hard enough to find time to play videogames to begin with.  There's no way I would spend countless hours on a message board even if I had the time to do so, as that would mean that much less time spent having fun with that next game I want to play.  After all, the most important commodity is time, n'est pas?

Hey Rick, nice sig.  Are you a big Triple H fan?

I don't understand.  I know how many times I have posted here (or messages), it tells me on the front page of the forums when I log in, at the vary bottom in the dark purple bar, in yellow text. I think the same bar that gives my username.

Yes, but YOU are the only one besides the moderators with access to that information.  Normally, it's listed right under your name, or in your profile.

Yes, I'm a pretty big Triple H fan.  I don't think he's nearly the puppeteering jerk everyone else on the internet seems to think he is.  Plus, that line from his theme song seems to fit with a videogame forum.

Hahahaha...that explains why I'm having so much fun then...hmm......

And I don't know about you guys, but I've had Rick's "Poll/Droll" poem in my head all day.  The rhythm was spot on.  Real music in those words.  Big Lewis Carroll fan, Rick?  ;-)  I recommend Billy Collins.  Oh, and Paul Muldoon.  That guy is hilarious--in a drunken Irish way.
