Take Two is trying to counter act EA
Quote

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the company is in talks with Major League Baseball for exclusive rights to the brand, in a deal which would act as a counter-move to EA's exclusive signing with the NFL.

p.s. I'm not sure on where this belongs

p.s.s. What baseball games does Take Two publish?

The better questions:
1) Does EA publish a baseball game?
2) Does anyone even buy baseball games?

I bought Baseball for Game Boy and Baseball for Atari 2600, both had very good original names that rocked my world. "I would like Baseball for my Video Computer System please"

... I have no interest in buying any of these fancy new Baseball games for my Video Computer Systems. Not with the confusing names they have these days. Mario Baseball, Pepsi Presents Baseball. I'm bowing out of the industry forever, I cannot handle the Baseball drama games. GOODBYE SWEET PRINCE.

Even though baseball games aren't the most popular sports titles, and there ARE good baseball titles out there besides EA's, I still love how SOMEBODY is trying SOMETHING.

But alas, EA has the biggest money hat, so unless the MLB has any kind of extreme videogame bias, EA can offer much more for exclusivity.

Well this is one I'm not hoping for. MVP 2004 was the best baseball game in years and certainly the best I've ever played gameplay wise. While I'm all for Take Two/Sega Sports trying to stick it to EA, I don't want the only EA Sports title I play to vanish.

As if those games would sell at all.

I don't like this...  This is setting a bad precedent...

Wow.  It took EA, what, a month or so to completely RUIN sports gaming forever.  Much like salary aribitration in professional sports one bad deal by EA has now set an example for all to follow.

On the bright side maybe this crap will get out of hand and turn off the casual gamers that make up a large percentage of the sports game market.

I suspsect the casual gamers will never even know it happened...unless this stuff is making big news in the sports world, which I don't think it is.  They'll just say, "I wonder where MVP Baseball went?" and pick up a different baseball game instead.

Pretty sucky, anyway.
That's my opinion, not yours.

This sucks, I'm a huge sports gamer and now the good games won't be made anymore (ESPN NFL 2k6, etc.). I hate EA!!!!!

Well I'm boycotting EA. It sucks for me because I was really looking forward to Fight Night 2...but I just can't support them in good conscience.

Take Two Snags 7-Year Exclusive MLB License
Posted on Monday, January 24 @ 08:30:54 PST
As was being rumored last week already, The Major League Baseball Players Association ("MLBPA") today announced that it has reached an agreement in principle to grant sweeping rights to Take 2 to develop and publish a broad portfolio of products that are expected to drive the baseball video game business to unprecedented heights.

well now they have effectively taken away the right for EA to use any real player's in thier next MLB game, but they can still use actual stadiums and Team names - I only skimmed the article so excuse me if I am wrong

Take Two screwed EA without elminating competiton. First parties can still use the MLBPA license. Third parties are prohibited. I like that. It still allows for competiting games and screws EA. Perfect solution.

yup.. And seeing as how Sony makes a pretty popular baseball game I'm sure this was all planned.. I'm pretty sure the only reason Take-Two spent all this money was just to screw EA.. But of course MS, Sony, and Nintendo are still free to do as they please.
Now as long as EA doesn't get any ideas and try to co-publish with Nintendo or something... Sony obviously won't do it as they have their own game, and MS owns the High Heat Baseball license (though they aren't using it).. And I doubt Nintendo would want to try to circumvent a license deal by helping out EA... so yeah, EA's screwed. Haha.

What has Take Two done for Nintendo lately?
Why wouldn't they help EA? They've been helping EA quite a bit lately, even if for self preservation reasons.

Because helping EA by co-publishing an MLB game is an attempt at getting around an exclusivity contract and lawyers are going to be all over them. Anyway, I doubt this is even a possibility anyway because that would mean EA's MLB would become GCN exclusive and EA's not going to waste money making MLB games for about 10 people.

EA/Nintendo working together, i dont see the problem. EA owns the Mainstream gamer. Nintendo needs the Mainstream gamer... let them make the next Ichiro Presents Major League Baseball
