GCN menu color
« on: January 10, 2005, 11:30:50 PM »
I got a gamecube back in Dec. 2001 when Smash Bros. came out. My brother got a platinum one this November...
You know when you are at the main menu, and go to the game disc menu, and it says "press start" in old school boxes? Mine is always in a pinkish color and my brother's is always purple. Is this due to the console's color? Or did they change it at a certain date (like the GCN's without component cable support, like my brother's).

More than likely a tweak to the internal hardware. I've got two cubes, a launch and a platinum, and they do the same thing. You might also notice that the ambient music that plays on the menu screen has a few instruments added to the later versions.

Actually, I'm am 100% that your cubes are identical and the Color, Saturation or Hue settings on your televisions are not tuned correctly...

No, I've had them both plugged up to the same TV (not at the same time, of course) and I never changed the settings.

Yeah, SBC, that isn't right.  I had a cube at launch and it was pinkish.  Then it got DRE and upon its repair it was purple.  I think they gutted my cube and put a new cpu in there.  So it is likely that the newer cubes have the purple color.  By the way though what are the color of your original cubes?  Mine with the pink was originally black.

Yeah I had them hooked up to the same TV and the old is pink and the new is purple.
My original is Indigo (dec 2001) and it's pinkish.
My brothers is Platinum (nov 2004) and it's purple. His also doesn't have component cable support...

Not quite sure what you mean by old school boxes, but the little boxes in a circular pattern that rotate around and stuff are pink on mine and sort of morth to a darker color and back.

EDIT:I see what you mean, yeah, my boxes are a pinky-red, my Cube is a 2001 cube.

Yeah so I think the first batch have the pink menus while the newer ones (platinum and on) have purple.

It was a good hypothesis, though. Never hurts to take a guess. It may be that I got my Platinum Cube when they were first released, so maybe the newer Platinum Cubes are different. I'm not sure. It could also very well be everyone has a different idea of what's purple and what's pink.
