Is the Gamecube supceptible to problems?
« on: January 03, 2005, 06:29:34 PM »
I'm gonna buy an used Gamecube that has 1 and 1/2 years of use so I'm worried because this kind of disk-reading console is much more supcetible to problems than other system like the N64.

How many years the GC can live?

My N64 has 11 years now and it's still working fine.

What of the 3 consoles(XB, GC and PS2) is more supceptible to technical failure?

Please this is very, very important to me because if it doesn't last I'm gonna buy a lot of money due I'm from Venezuela and here it's much more expensive so I need ti know if it's gonna last. PLEASE!!!

All optical media-based consoles will have a shorter lifespan than cartridge-based ones, so you never know...

You've had your N64 since January 1994?

Don't worry, GC is a very well built system, you have nothing to worry about, mine still works PERFECTLY and I got it at launch. Just buy it.

I got in 1996. My mistke, it has 9 years with me.

I'm buying the Platinum edition, so what difference is between it and the Indigo/Black console? Just color or it's more durable due that the GC that were bought right after it's release were defective 1-3 years after.

I'm buying the GC just for Super Smash Bros Melee due I just love the Super Smash Bros of the N64.

Also, what is better: SSBM or SSB?

Obviously SSBM...And there's absolutely no difference between the Platinum GC and the other versions...It can also be assumed that newer Gamecubes(all colors, of course) will have less chance of something wrong happening...

PS2 and Xbox have more problems then the GC, but its not in anyway gauranteed to do so.

I know many people that have had their PS2 go bust on them, I know very few people that have had their Xbox do so.

But:

The xbox has a hard drive, and ALL mechanical things will eventually fail because they use motors, moving parts, etc.

This goes for all consoles, but it depends on how heavy a user you are of your consoles.  How many hours/year do you end up playing them really?  I really doubt your GC will ever die, it will probably easily last 7 years or more is my guess.  I have PC CDROM drives that are over 8 years old still kicking and they see constant use.

Buying used should be no problem as long as the user of the used console didn't abuse it (drop it, leave it on 24/7 365 days a year, etc).

There is strong rumor that the newest models of the Platinum GCs (the ones with a bundled MKDD) are incompatible with Freeloader import enabler discs. Just worth noting if that sort of thing interests you now or in the future.

I have yet to have a disk read error with my launch GCN(purple).  My only problem was that a comtroller port had some pins get dirty and pushed back.

I have had my gamecube (black) since launch and it still works. About 2 years in soda was spilled on it so the only thing wrong with it is the open button sticks sometimes also its been droped a few times. I heard that because of the ps2 and xbox have dvd players they break more often.
If you see me please just walk on by, walk on by forget my name and I'll forget it to

Well, I play like 10 hours a day right now due I'm on vacations. Usually I play 5-6 hours a day.

That probably "harm" my GC more than usually, right?

Anyway, what good games are for the Gamecube?

BE HONEST BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO WASTE MY MONEY ON BAD GAMES!!!!!
(like I did with the N64)

That question goes into the "which game?" thread and depending on your tastes you might disagree with the majority on the quality of some games (e.g. I consider GTA really boring)

I didn't see that thread.

Should I leave the DVD inside the Gamecube when not playing or should I take it back to its case. Just to know because I can easily forgot if a game is on my GC so I want to know is that is somewhat harmful to my GC.

Leaving the disc in is fine as long as you turn it off. Leaving your console on will fill it with dust, if nothing else.
