"I'm going to say November 2005, the same date Ocarina of Time came out."

"Same guess from me."

My guess too. If they give a release date or time frame, they really mean x + 6 months.

They could never stoop to releasing something in the summer when kids are off school, so October 26th 2005 it is.

KDR_11k, maybe I talk like one, but I am not one! I can criticise too.

But right now I just like to compliment the new Zelda game, since it is what most of us who love the Zelda series wanted, and since it is going to virtually blow away the competition! Single greatest adventure game ever to have been made Iam sure they will vote it, when it comes out.

OOT was called "Game of the Century", when it debuted in the 1998, but THIS ONE, I believe, will be called "Game of the Millenium" when it comes out!

So if I do talk like a Halflife 2 Fanboy, I am pleased. That game too, is a milestone!

You know since OOT and this new Zelda will be released in different centuries they could call this new one "Game of the Century" as well.  They can both be "Game of the Century" without conflicting.

They said there will be a *final* version at E3, so I wouldn't expect it to be too long.

You know what'd be really cool? A LE disc for pre-orders. But since they'v rereleased practically all the Zelda games on Gamecube already (sans the ones available on Gameboy platforms) maybe they could remaster Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask with the new graphics and remastered sound. Wishfull thinking yes, but impossible? No. Hell, I'd pay full price for a disc with them both remastered. I'm sure other people would too.

"Remastering" (i.e. remaking) them would take as long as making an entirely new game.

Really? I'm no developer but I thought that they could use the same engine and with the story in place then it would be quicker.
Oh well. I'd still pay full price for them.

Well, they'd just have to make a few new models and use the rest of the existing ones. It would still take time to implement, just there wouldn't need to be much design work. Since the teams are all formed to make games, this would cause a surplus of designers... not always a bad thing, but not good for the development cycle.

It would be very nice to have remakes, I agree, but OoT and MM were only last generation and we've got port to the Cube already, as well as a partial remake of OoT. Maybe next generation they could come up with something, like WW graphics for Link as a child and the new style for Link as an adult?

Why remake???? That is what frustrates me with the GBA and Nintendo.  Too many remakes or should i say ports. On the GBA there is still no original Mario Platformer in sight....I have OoT on N64 and GC why would i need another one....Nintendo are stuck in the past and they are trying to bring the past into the present sure it will bring nostalgia but not the satisfaction of an entirely new game.

I doubt its a remake. And Q2 ends in June which is after E3, but Nintendo could probally hold a press conference that seems to becoming popular lately. But it could change or be a mistake. (I didn't read most of the posts.)

Wind Waker was moved to a time were it would have virtally no competition so Nintendo may be doing the same thing. (Though if its Q2 in fiscal terms it could be August since their fiscal year ends in March.)

Dasmos, Nintendo has recently expanded their developement studioes, so I don´t think you need to worry.

Nintendo will meet the expectations, but was indeed stuck in the past with long developement cycles, and too few new games. They have experimented with Mario and Zelda recently (Sunshine and Wind Waker), and now with Donkey Kong (Konga) and also given us Pikmin. They are right now busy rolling out the DS and preparing for a portfolio of games coming out for the new console dubbed Revolution. I don´t think you need to worry. They´re not stuck in the past anymore. It just takes some time before you will see it. They´re gearing up, slow in the move, but fast like hell once they get going!

I like Aonuma's comment that they're trying to somehow make a game better than OoT.  As far as this Q2 business, we had confirmed that as a typo when Nintendo put out that list of 2005 games.  They still haven't officially placed it in a quarter yet, but you can be sure it will come out by the end of the year.  That and Mario 128 (which is apparently still in dev for GC) are the last big things Nintendo has.

that and Mario 128...... drool...

You know what would make this new Zelda really cool to me? If,

a) There is ONE version. None of that getting all the kinks out for PAL ala Metroid. Don't get me wrong, I am PAL and so I think I got the better end of that deal. But I bought my Gamecube after seeing the teaser of this Zelda, and I don't want to wait months for a PAL release. I don't want them delaying it to get all the kinks out, but at the same time I don't want them releasing me a version with kinks to get out. Solution? Get the kinks out BEFORE it goes gold!

b) There is ONE version (part 2). OOT had various versions. First Ganon spat out blood coloured blood (shock) and there were chants (alteast most thought they sounded like chants) which lead to people thinking it was offensive, then there was green coloured blood (:S) and no chants in the temple (i think it was the temple). I WANT MY RED BLOOD! I WANT MY CHANTS! DON'T TAKE THEM AWAY FROM ME!!!

c) I had it.

"I like Aonuma's comment that they're trying to somehow make a game better than OoT."

That's a lofty goal but even if they don't quite pull it off I admire that kind of effort.  There are two ways to make a good sequel to a long running series.  You either try to go in a different direction (much like what Majora's Mask and Wind Waker tried to do) or you try to make the ULTIMATE *blank* GAME.  Super Metroid is an example of the ULTIMATE METROID GAME.  It plays a lot like the original Metroid but everything is improved and as a result it's one of the best games ever.  Zelda hasn't really gotten the ultimate treatement yet.  A Link to the Past is close but the parallel dimension thing was pretty new.  The ULTIMATE ZELDA GAME would take all that Nintendo has learned creating the previous Zelda games and put that knowledge into creating as great of a game as possible.  While I like it when Nintendo tries to do something new I would like to see at least one attempt of them making a super Zelda sequel that just trys to be the best game in the series.

I personally don't like that quote much.

I want them to try and make a better game than LttP, but I guess that's asking for too much.

They said Ocarina of Time simply because it's more commonly known than A Link to the Past, more popular.  It has more of an effect that way, they could very well try to outdo LttP.

Considering they're making a new 3D Zelda, Ocarina of Time is the best comparison.  Saying "we're trying to top A Link to the Past" doesn't make sense since you can't really compare 2D to 3D.  It's apples and oranges.  But with Ocarina of Time and this new Zelda it's apples and apples.

From a Zelda 2D to 3D revolution, to a Zelda 3D graphics evolution that makes a quantum-leap in gameplay experience!

This years release can´t come soon enough, and they would be reeaaal nice if they released it simultaneously in all territories!

M might be a bit much (depending what region's classification they're using. In Australia it would be fair enough), but it has been confirmed to be more mature. Aiming for a Teen classification I think.
