Paper Mario Help Thread
« on: October 24, 2004, 05:50:12 AM »
I have a few quick questions regarding Paper Mario.

(1)  How do I increase my Star Rank?  I've been at "Rising Star" for quite some time now, and I'd like to get more than 50 people in my audience.  Does the Star Rank increase automatically as the game progresses (either through collecting Crystal Stars or ranking up) or is there something I need to do to increase it?

(2)  Can I do anything with the Star Pieces I collect besides trade them for badges with Dazzle?

(3)  What the heck does Merlee the fortune teller do?  (The one below Rougeport, hidden in the background; not the one by Dazzle.)
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

1 - Star Rank increases as you level up...You'll increase it eventually so don't worry about it...
2 - No...There are just enough star pieces to get every single badge...
3 - Same as she did in the first game...Gives you a little added what I call "Battle Bonus"...She'll randomly appear during or after battle to give you a boost(such as added attack power during battle or doubles your coinage/experience after battle)...The more you are willing to pay for her services(oh geez, that sounded dirty), the longer they will last...

Chapter 3 spoilers:   I just got into the Major League, and now I suddenly hear about some sort of sealed wall in the Minor Leagure Locker Room.  Is there any way I can get back into the Minor Leagure Locker Room?  I tried losing a fight, but my ranking stayed at 10.  Is there something worthwhile in the Minor Leagure Locker Room, or is the whole Seven Wonders thing nothing I need to worry about?

Chapter 3 spoilers:  Is it possible to fight against that bat thing that replaced KP Koopa in the minor league?  I finished the chapter, so I guess it's too late to go back if it is, but I'm just curious.

Post chapter 4 spoilers:   Is Vivian's Veil move the most worthless attack in the entire game?  It's great that it protects her and Mario from damage, but everytime I use it the enemy gets two turns in a row.  Since it only protects for one turn, I still wind up getting attacked.  The only use I can see for it, is if I know my opponent is going to use a charged up move for his next turn.  Is this correct, or am I missing something?

Chapter 3:  I have even gone back to fight through the ladder again(sidequest) and I never fought him...

Chapter 4:  Vivian's move is MUCH helpful in a certain boss battle in the future ^_^

Chapter 4 spoilers:  Is it just me, or did chapter 4 end twice?

Chapter 8 spoilers:  After beating Gloomtail in chapter 8, I'm in the front-left room on the bottom floor of the tower. I know I'm supposed to hit the red block on the left side of the room 3 times and then the red block on the right side of the room twice. But when I do, nothing happens. I've already collected the other seven keys hidden in the tower and placed them in the locks on the top floor. Am I doing something wrong?

Don't you hit the right block twice first, and then hit the left block three times?

The clue on the wall says

"Beyond, beyond, beyond...
Complete All Seven...
Before, before..."

And when I talk to Goombella she says "beyond" refers away from the door (i.e. the left block), and "before" means the right block.

I figured "complete all seven" must mean I had to get the other seven keys first, but it still didn't work.  Then I tried putting the keys into the locks on the top floor, and it still didn't work.

This is driving me crazy.

You didn't answer my question...Did you try my method?   If it doesn't work then you may have gotten stuck in a nasty glitch(but try to leave the area and come back to make sure)

Yes, I did try it your way.  I tried every combination of 2 and 3 I could think of.

I wound up restarting my Cube, continuing from the last save point and tried again.  It worked on the first try.  I'm guessing it was a weird glitch.

How sad it is that you need help with Paper Mario.... I guess you don't have that pioneering spirit, eh?
