I don't think PM: The Thousand Year Door will be in limited quantities, I think the only reason the original was so hard to find was that the N64 was in the last year of its life, so Nintendo assumed not many copies would sell.  It's a shame, because it was an awesome game.

As for the game being teh kiddiez... if your friends are too cool for anything but First Person Shooters and wrestling games, then yeah, you probably won't be bringing Paper Mario out for them to play.  But if they're not too cool for Mario Kart, then they're not too cool for this either.

I'm jealous of you, Bill.  I still can't find the game. *boo hoo*

i just picked up pm2 via outpost.com (see amazing deals! thread) and i noticed that the cover art is slightly different than the version i've seen everywhere else (see here).  there's a seal at the bottom right corner (looks a lot like the official nintendo seal) that says BEST SELLER.

does anyone else have this seal on their cover art?

the game hasn't been out that long, so i don't quite see how they could be on a second printing or even have enough sales data to proclaim it a best seller.

That's all I see in stores so it's probably the Canadian cover.  This year NOC has gone crazy with ruining cover art.  Most 2004 Cube titles say "New for 2004" on them in big ugly letters.  I assume this is a similar thing though it makes even less sense since it's NOT a best seller.  Not yet anyway.

I bought paper mario 2 today in best buy and it also lacks the Nintendo Seal on the front but it has Best Seller in its place and last time I checked NJ isnt a part of Canada.

EDIT: Because of the Best Seller icon and how big it is the Nintendo logo and ESRB logo are shifted to the left side.

EDIT 2: The icon looks like a big non shiny oversized Official Nintendo Seal.

Are you sure the seal wasn't implying that it's the SEQUEL of a best seller?

(Game is BEST...Just before the final boss at the moment...Can't remember my time...Something like 26-28 hours perhaps?)

I just picked up my copy today.  I haven't had a chance to play it yet (still moving some stuff around my room), but I plan to either before the night is out or tomorrow sometime.

Mine doesn't have that weird best-seller logo on the front.  I've just got the Nintendo official seal on the front (and, of course, back) cover.  Of course, I'm in Louisiana USA (far away from some of the Canadians on this board).

I'm having a hard time deciding if I like PM2 more than Superstar Saga. Considering how much better M&L:SS was than the first Paper Mario, that's saying something.

As for it being a kiddie game... whatever. It's a Mario game. And I doubt that kids are going to understand most of the text anyway. PM2 has some of the most entertaining dialogue I've ever seen in a game, seriously. Keep in mind I said "entertaining", not "deep" or "melodramatic".

The game has a little more backtracking than I would like, and the side quests aren't very compelling. I would also like to see a difficulty setting added in any future sequels. Yes, I know there a badges you can equip to make the game more difficult, but self-imposed challenges are teh suXXor!!11oneoneoneoneone

And PM2 has the greatest line in a videogame, ever. "People don't trust a man that's always digging in his pockets."

The problem with using the badges for more difficulty is that some of them aren't found until many, many hours into the game. I'd like to play it from start to finish on a higher difficulty, like TOS lets you do.

Personally, instead of higher difficulty, I prefer to see how fast I can play.  I wish all of Nintendo's games kept track of how many hours were played.
Does anyone know where the victory music at the end of regular battles comes from?  It haunts my dreams.  It seems so familiar, but I can't recall the melody from other Mario games.  The game is wonderful.  I wish I had more time to play it!

that's a pretty bad argument.  without the timed defense/attack the game becomes little more than an average RPG in terms of the battle system.  the timed extras are required in order to make the battle system engaging, rather than a chore.

I have Paper Mario 2.  And it is fun.  Really fun.  And funny.  It's hilarious.

And about difficulty...  I have died several times in this game.  I don't usually die in RPGs, since I can just level up a lot and win.  Paper Mario 2 is actually the most difficult RPG I have ever played.  This game actually requires that you PAY ATTENTION.

So it's great.  And Game Informer can DiE.

I found the same thing with the first Paper Mario, Deguello: a lot of people think it's too easy, but I found it harder than traditional RPGs.

Quick question:  are there any time-sensitive events in this game?

Example:  I just finished chapter one and I'm wondering around Rougeport.  There's a green rat who wants me to give him money so he can go find oil.  If I choose not to give him any right now, can I still give him some later, or will he disappear after a while, and I'l never have the opportunity again?  There's also a salesman in the main square who says that the badges he's selling are a limited time offer.  If I don't buy them now, will they be gone for good?

Basically, I'm asking if there are any sidequests/badges/NPC's that I can completely miss?  I'm trying not to use any sort of guide for this game, but I don't want to only be able to play 90% of it because I missed something early on.

The weasel will disappear for a while I think...I gave him a single wad of dough early on, he disappeared, I started regretting giving him the money later on due to low funds, but he appeared again and it was well worth funding him

But if I waited until, say, after chapter four to give him the dough, would the same end result occur, or would he disappear without me coughing up the cash?

I find it quite humorous that the creator of this thread hasn't picked up the game yet.  Oh, the irony.

I've beaten the game at just over 40 hours. Very good game. But I didn't die once. I came close a few times, but I guess I just have really good reflexes.

I think it deserves to be pointed out that what your partners say during dialogue scenes varies from character to character. There's never any generic text that's shared by all your partners. That's really a staggering amount of text that had to be written, most of which you'll never read. Such attention to detail.

Let there be hot dogs!
