Nintendo Free Radio 45: Extra Punchy

When all you have is games, everything looks like a way to spend money
Time: 2'58"01 (Download)

It's October, which you can tell by the leaves turning color, and the NFR team staring down bank loans as EVERYTHING is coming out. In fact, the oldest full game discussion in New Business is for a game released on September 26. Stephen opens with the PS4 version of Dust: An Elysian Tail, which brings its unique artstyle and Microsoft-published characters to Sony for the first time, before puzzling through another cross-platform PS+ freebie in Pix the Cat, once described as "Snake means Chu Chu Rocket on acid". But his main event is extensive discussion of pretty much everything in Smash Bros 4 (3DS). Donald is worrying about releases to come as he ripped through the Bayonetta 2 demo in order to "git gud", and took his frustrations out on that by bombing some Dodongos and other things in major league 2014 GOTYC Hyrule Warriors. Austen has some big AAA games to round out, hitting wife simulator Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor, the creepy and kooky Alien: Isolation, and... Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments? Yes, it's still valid.

Since New Business was so long, that clearly doesn't leave much time for Whatcha Watchin', so it boils down to three things: Wakfu, Attack on Titan (all of S1 spoiled) and the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. There's a brief plug for a couple of things to be mentioned below, and then the Mushrooms as Donald clearly doesn't understand the point of these things, Austen is pleased by Sony paying off an E3 tease, and Stephen provides some nice trivia questions.

The first thing to mention is that next episode is a very special "Ask Donald Anything" feature, and we want ANYTHING you want to know about Donald that doesn't involve the three taboos. Email your questions to nintendofreeradio@gmail.com, tweet them to @nfrpodcast or post them here and you'll be entered into a draw to win some valuable DLC for Hyrule Warriors. (Entries are due before October 26.) The other is that it's coming up on Child's Play show time, and NFR is back in the saddle - we're going to be talking crowdfunding, but only if you give! Drop your donations on the NWR page and be ready for a wild ride on November 8!

This podcast was recorded on October 9, and edited by Donald Theriault. All music is copyright their respective owners and used under fair use protection. We don't want to have to resort to Sarah from Iowa City.

Wakfu got dub because creators had a kickstarter for official DVD release with english dub. I know because i backed it.

Original game is pretty meh, from what i hear.

Wakfu the cartoon (itself a spin-off) also got a spin-off called Dofus: Treasures of Kerub -- a bit more episodic and lighthearted show, it still managed to drop a few drama bombs in the end (nothing on the scale of season 1 finale of Wakfu though).

That's good to know.  So far I haven't ran into anything I call real drama yet.  The game itself I've started playing and its fairly obvious this is a sequel of something.  It has a lot of classes in it among other things.  I'm going to have to get further in.

First season starts kinda slow. It also doesn't help that Wakfu has way more fillers than say ATLA.

By the end of season one it will go into some REALLY dark places and will present one of the most compelling animated villains i've seen in Nox.

First season also has three tie-in specials animated by different japanese studios, not sure if they're up on Netflix or not. They up the bar with violence and drama, especially the one with showing Nox's tragic backstory.

It's too bad that second season of Wakfu was so much weaker than 1, with worse villain, characters getting downgraded instead of developing further and so on.
