I was never big on records really, save for a few times i'd brag amongst close friends, so I never really set out to demolish someones record. Besides, since i was the sole gamer in my home, games that kept records pretty much had my name on the list exclusively

However from time to time even i'd get a record so high i'd have to show my friends, just because I couldn't even believe i'd scored so high. For instance, in the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater.. which I just remembered, I didn't even own at the time, i was borrowing it from a friend (of a friend!)..
I got so good at the game, that I could get a massive amount of points in just one heat of the first tournement (i believe it was the Werehouse level). I wish i could remember a specific score, but its been so long. Trust me though, my runs were EPIC. You only get like, 30 or 60 seconds to score big and i went above and beyond.. literally. The game starts you off facing a rail, i grind that and head towards the half pip to the left, do a couple of grab tricks and build up speed, then launch myself off no to a fucking girder floating above the level.
I know it was exploiting a glitch but you gotta keep in mind this was the FIRST THPS, before manuals and reverts and all that ****. You still needed a ton of skill to keep your grinds up and your combos going. I couldn't even stay on the girder for that long (though on rare occasions i would surpass the time limit) but i still had the skill to keep my combos up and whenever my characters balance would be pushed to its limit, i'd pull off a 900 on the way down to the half-pipe again. Seriously, it was Epic.
All that carried on too.. I used to be able to pull runs in the California level of THPS4 on gamecube of well over 5,000,000pts, obviously exceeding the 2-minute limite the game gives you. Oh and did i mention this is all without cheats?
