Or how about a S.T.A.R.S. vs Infected Zombies  multiplayer type of game? Kind of like a Spies vs. Mercenaries type of thing how each team has its own  goal to do.

It still doesn't sound interesting.  More of a gimmick.  I usually don't buy games for the gimmicks.  I already own Resident Evil for GameCube, and even for PlayStation.  I'm not going to waste another sum of money on a few added elements; which for that matter don't really add to the game at all.

And it can be light and colorful, but that only adds to the contrast.  Look at the rape scene in A Clockwork Orange.

Examples.  Kplzthx.

The moon falling to the earth has more of a 'fairy tail' air to it than procession of darkness and evil.  Ocarina of Time on the otherhand is a step away from being post-apocalyptic (ala SMT or Fallout).  I can't really see what's so twisted about Majora's Mask.  It's main villain being a kid perhaps? Zora pop-stars losing their voices? A monkey being accused of abduction?  I don't know about you, but that sounds a lot more like quirk than twist.

Of course there is that ten or so minutes of the game which revolves around aquiring the Gibdo Mask.  Other than that, nothing twisted at all comes to mind.

That's wishful thinking at best.  The difference between units of PSPs and DSes in the States at this moment is approximately 200 units.  That's not 200 thousand, that's 200.  PSP is closing ground on the DS, and it's only a matter of months before they take top spot in the US Market.  Of course, the DS will probably continue to be superior in the Japanese market.

I swear to God.  I'm getting a 360 on launch.

Shenmue 3, Lost Odyssey and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion seal the deal alone.  Where X-Box failed to impress me, 360 has made up in every way possible.  And it's not even out yet!

Talk about a blast from the past.  *kisses his gold edition copy of the game*  Unfortunately, that thing is worth beans, since you can walk into any pawn shop and find it for 5 bucks.

To be honest, I can't really bring myself to enjoy old FF games like I used to.  Even the ones I haven't played I tend to have to force myself through.  Then again I've been having trouble playing through new games as well, but at least I enjoy those... whereas old games are more of a nostalgiac enjoyment.  Looking back on a game like Chrono Trigger is great, but as replaying a game like that is pretty much a nostalgiac experience, and not one for quality.

That generally a problem I have with typical 32-bit JRPGs.  The Seiken Densetsu series is quite a bit different from your typical JRPG of that day though, so it's a pretty enjoyable experience for me.  Anyway, what was the point I was making here?  Ah yes... I won't really be happy with FF III.

First of all, when I look at the world of Termina compared to Hyrule, I already see a much more colorful place.  Secondly, the moon crashing to the earth wasn't really all that desperate of a gimmick to put into the story.  All you have to do is go back in time and you can save the day.  You can't really do that in Ocarina of Time.  Hyrule as you know it is ravaged and conquered by evil.

As much as I hate to say it, art style is the most important aspect when setting the mood of a game.  Tales of Symphonia has a 'dark story' but because of it's art style, coupled with it's light undertones, it appears as being in a rather light mood.  Which it is.

This seems like the kind of game that'll either be completely awesome, or completely crappy.  Kind of like Animal Crossing or the Sims.  I don't doubt that it'll be as awesome as either though, so it'll probably be a game I end up getting.

Maybe I'll name my pet after my real dog, and give it more attention as well.  That would just be delightfully cruel... yet depressing.

This... doesn't look interesting.  I'll stick to the console games, as I have no desire to play the handheld port of a game I've beaten too many times to count.  How about that Megamen though?

I was wondering about buying this game.... I saw a copy of it at a flea market for a pretty low price, but it didn't seem to come with the drums so I decided to pass on it.  I think I'll just buy it at full price instead.  Current Generation platformers are pretty fun.  On top of that fact, it's delivered with a gimmick so it seems promising.

Only three words could explain my feelings for this game.

"OMG I WANT!"

Seriously.  Looks promising to say the least.  As much as I liked The Wind Waker (and while I'm at it, I may as well state it's my favorite of the Zelda games), I've been itching for another 'dark' Zelda game like Ocarina of Time.  From the various video clips and screen shots, it seems like this game will provide just that.

Being the Square-Enix fanboy that I am.  I can't wait.  On a side note, I hope they make some Lufia games now that they've absorbed Taito.

But yeah, back to the Seiken Densetsu series.  I'm still waiting on a port of Seiken Densetsu 3.  World of Mana should quench my thirst for at least a little while though.  If not that, then Radiata Stories or Kingdom Hearts 2.

Heh.  I was offered to write an article about this for some website a few days ago.  I wish I would have now, because it's become quite big news.  Curse me and my laziness!  Curse it to hell!

I don't think anyone remembers me, but if they did.  Which again is doubtful, they'd remember that I used this avatar forever.  It's Raven from Fire Emblem.  I just think his character design is quite cool, so I made it into an avatar.  THE BEST PART IS THAT ITS IN GBA QUALITY!

General Gaming / RE: Square Enix making a profit on online games?
« on: January 03, 2005, 09:30:52 PM »
I really dislike the non-linearity of MMORPGs.  I simply need some sort of direction in a game, or else it's not so much of a game but more a part of life.  I've had my fair share of history playing MMORPGs (Asheron's Call, Ultima Online) and in the end I felt half the reason I was playing them were because of the built in chat rooms.

Of course, in the case of non-RPGs I would gladly see Nintendo go online.  There's an obvious potential to make money here, whether it be through pay to play or simply by selling games.  But alongside that, there's an awesome potential to fail horribly.

When they day is done, I'd have to say I'm with Nintendo on this one.  I have no compelling need to play online games via console.  PC works perfectly fine, and in most cases requires no additional fee.

Simply put, in a market where the PS3 is going to be backwards compatible with the last two generations of Sony consoles... Nintendo would be crazy not to make the Revolution backwards compatible with at least one generation of gaming.
