Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wii + RPTV: Good match?
« on: November 25, 2006, 07:16:57 PM »
Well, CRT has been good to me over the years... but it's too small... I'm looking for a big screen that will stay with me. The largest CRT I can get here is 76cm widescreen (~30inch). Still... I might put one back in the running...
Anyone actually using the Wii with their RPTV? Works fine?

Thanks

Hmm.
So you think from the Wii aspect (in reality though, Wii Sports isn't enough to decide upon a tv tech for) a RPTV isn't ideal?

Pros for SD Plasma:
Deep Blacks
Great viewing angle
Cons:
SD....
Pros for HD RPTV:
Stunning picture when viewed head on (and OK from off to the side)
HD (more future proof)
Bang for buck (50" for the price of a 42" plasma)
Cons:
Terrible vertical viewing angle (which might be a problem ONLY for Wii games... sometimes there would be some benefits to being short)

Nintendo Gaming / Wii + RPTV: Good match?
« on: November 23, 2006, 06:48:40 PM »
Hi all,
I'm in Australia where the Wii launches in a fortnight, and when it comes out I'll be buying a new tv to go along with it.
I went and looked at various sets and in my price bracket (and what caught my interest) was a Panasonic 42" SD Plasma and Sony 42" 720p 3LCD rear projection tv (or perhaps even the 50").
The tv will be used for more then just the Wii, so the extra res of the RPTV is preferable, however I'm thinking about compatability with the Wii. Do they go well together? Dead on the RPTV looks stunning, and only loses part of it's brightness when looking at it from the side, however standing up it loses so so much brightness... too much to watch.
For a traditional gaming system this is fine, but I'm wondering, do many games on Wii (such as Wii Sports) need you to be standing? Esp in multiplayer?

Thanks

You know what would really be cool?
If the game lasted a long long time! Say 50 hours or more! One big problem I had with Wind Waker was that I got to towards the end and realised I was at the final boss. Side-quests aside, I think the games could benefit from greater depth to the journey.

And if the game was free running too.
For example, say there was to be a big battle ala 'Helms Deep' (Lord of the Rings, Two Towers) between two sides, one of which Link chooses to fight for. (For example's sake, Ganon's side or Hyrule. Maybe he picks Ganon's side because he's been fooled to think they'r the good guys or doesn't know that Ganon is the leader, and later in the story realises the truth, or he picks Hyrule's side). Then he could be going off to find an essential item to win the battle but depending on how long he(you) takes he can either get there before the battle starts and fight alongside the men, or get there late and come in half way from a different side (like Gandalf did in Two Towers) or completley miss the fight and find a massacre (which, if he fought on Ganon's side, makes him realise that he was fighting for the wrong side and sets out to make things right and restore the kingdom).

Also what I'd like are realistic towns/villages. Sure something with the status of Kakiriko village (or whatever it's called) can be small. But Hyrule town is a different story. Shouldn't the capital of the land be somewhat bigger?

But, what do I know?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:4gamers?/Nintendo Warranty info?
« on: January 09, 2005, 02:56:03 PM »
I phoned the helpline about the warranty, and it's a $15 Appraisal fee for them to see if it's a manufacterers fault or mine. If it's the manufacterers then I get the $15 back, if it's mine then I can either pay more (almost the price of a brand new controller) for them to fix it, or they'll chuck it free of charge. *sigh*
Anyone have experience with the Australian Nintendo warranty service? I really don't wanna pay someone $15 to throw away my controller.

Nintendo Gaming / Games for Hori Digital?
« on: January 08, 2005, 08:28:06 PM »
Hello,

what games work well with the Hori Digital pad?
I know there's the Gameboy player, but what else works without a hitch?

Viewtiful Joe?
Legend of Zelda: Four Swords?

What else?
I found one new for a good price and after hearing good things decided to pick it up, so now am looking for games that play well with it

Thanks

Nintendo Gaming / 4gamers?
« on: January 08, 2005, 01:48:26 AM »
Hi everyone.
I bought a Gamecube in November, and the controller is already on the fritz! (It's an official one). The left joystick kind of clicks when I go up/down (fine with right/left), it's fine when I hold it in with a bit of pressure though (enough pressure to take some pleasure out of the games).
SO, I'm thinking of getting a new controller and I saw this 4gamers pack for 60% of the price of an official controller and it comes with a controller, game wallet and 4mb memory card.
Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they any good?
I would send it in for repair on warranty (in fact I might give Nintendo a call on Monday) however according to the website the warranty will not apply if:

"- If the ACCESSORY has been subjected to misuse, abuse, accident or want of care.
- Wear and tear. "

I'm not sure what they mean by misuse, abuse, accident or want of care (if someone could ellaborate for me) but wear and tear couldn't be it could it? It's only been 2 months and 5 days!!!

Thanks

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Four Swords PAL
« on: January 07, 2005, 04:15:54 PM »
Ok thanks.
I'm trying to steer clear from NTSC when at all possible as I don't wish to buy a Freeloader just yet. I'll have a wait for DVDCrave. Maybe eBay. There's no rush.

Thanks

Nintendo Gaming / Four Swords PAL
« on: January 07, 2005, 03:34:21 AM »
Hello,

The PAL version of Four Swords was released in Europe today, but afaik there's still no Australian release date.
Does anyone know of any reputable (and on the cheaper end of the scale) online sellers that ship out to Australia?
Or, better yet, does anyone know something I don't about an Aus release?

Thanks

M might be a bit much (depending what region's classification they're using. In Australia it would be fair enough), but it has been confirmed to be more mature. Aiming for a Teen classification I think.

AFAIK it will say that when there is an incompatible disc. Such as a PAL disc on a NTSC console (without a Freeloader). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, how I would love to play my N64 games....
Just think... Ocarina of Time (version 1.0 with red blood and chants), Majora's Mask (without sound glitches, crashes and extremley expensive price tags on ebay), Goldeneye, Conker, Mario 64 for crying out loud...

I'll be the first to say that I would rather play games legally on a console then having to resort to glitchy emulation. And I would pay for an adapter too. Especially if N64 style controllers were released for use with it on the Gamecube (and all for a reasonable price). MY N64 CONTROLLER(S) ARE DEAD!

Sigh. All that money spent on N64 games.... down the drain...

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Stuck on Metroid Prime 1
« on: December 30, 2004, 01:40:39 AM »
Ah I was stuck there too. Made me not want to buy the game (until I found a cheap new/sealed non-players choice pal version of the game for cheaper than the players choice locally).
Without giving away anything, you do need a 'heat proof thingy'. Follow your map and head to the Arboretum (it's the round room of polluted water with those vine-like creatures that come out of the wall and attack you when you get too close and a big tree in the middle). Follow the platforms up...

(or I may be wrong as Professional seems to be refering to something different)

Hope this helps

Nintendo Gaming / Import gaming
« on: December 25, 2004, 04:20:54 PM »
Hello and happy holidays.

I've been noticing how much cheaper gamecube games would be if I imported them but have some questions.
I have a PAL gamecube and so PAL games are fine, and I know I need a freeloader to play NTSC games, which I can get my hands on, but about the freeloader:

- My TV supports PAL-50 only (and PAL-60 slightly faded and slightly squashed, but OK). NTSC however is black and white and slightly squashed. Would the freeloader output the games in PAL?

- About how long from turning on my Gamecube with the freeloader in it, is it to the game starting?
Does anyone have a video (direct capture or videocam) of the process? I'm hearing mixed thoughts on it so think it best to see for myself.

Thanks

Damn Americans...
I WISH our Player's Choice had a yellow stipe. That would be a huge improvement to the huge gross grey border that PAL countries get

Any adaptor to use this on Xbox or PS2 while retaining the force feedback?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:New Legend of Zelda already in Quarter 2?
« on: December 13, 2004, 02:52:36 AM »
that and Mario 128...... drool...

You know what would make this new Zelda really cool to me? If,

a) There is ONE version. None of that getting all the kinks out for PAL ala Metroid. Don't get me wrong, I am PAL and so I think I got the better end of that deal. But I bought my Gamecube after seeing the teaser of this Zelda, and I don't want to wait months for a PAL release. I don't want them delaying it to get all the kinks out, but at the same time I don't want them releasing me a version with kinks to get out. Solution? Get the kinks out BEFORE it goes gold!

b) There is ONE version (part 2). OOT had various versions. First Ganon spat out blood coloured blood (shock) and there were chants (alteast most thought they sounded like chants) which lead to people thinking it was offensive, then there was green coloured blood (:S) and no chants in the temple (i think it was the temple). I WANT MY RED BLOOD! I WANT MY CHANTS! DON'T TAKE THEM AWAY FROM ME!!!

c) I had it.

Nintendo Gaming / Replacement cases?
« on: December 09, 2004, 02:28:31 AM »
Hello,
does anyone know if it's possible to buy replacement Gamecube game cases? From Nintendo or otherwise?
I bought a game off ebay but the guy send it in a crappy bag, then the case was scraped pretty badly (plastic all cut up) in the post
Worldwide sources is OK but Australian sources is preferable.
Thanks
