General Gaming / RE: Xenon specs leaked again and confirmed.
« on: June 25, 2004, 11:51:23 AM »
So I think I'm confused here. Are they using multiple processors to reach a goal of 3.5 GHz? I also agree with Darc Requiem on the RAM. To me, RAM is a HUGE part of a computer/system and how technology is going, you will need a lot of it. Though RAM is expensive, then again what kind of RAM are they using? I Use Rambus Memory (RDRAM) and thats mad expensive for me to upgrade it, so Im still at 512 unfortantly. I also wonder how it will connect to your PC, hopefully USB or some high technology that both a Mac and PC user can use. They still have another year and technology can improve quickly. I'm sure there is still room for improvements to come, still I have my doubts about  the system.

Sounds to me like an early jump start to have copied and pirated games.

Heh, I like how The Omen explained it. It is like Disney to where a lot of there older stuff was just unbelievably awesome and now a lot of their stuff isn't that great. Like I mentioned before, How can you go wrong with General Choas for Genensis. Back in the day of Sega and SNES, they were an awesome company. I do get aggrivated when they buy out companies, especially good companies. My biggest problem with them though is with the computer games, they rush them out, and then send out a lot of patches. After a couple of months, it's like they forget about the game. The only game they keep maintence up on is The Sims. There online gaming servers are horrible, especially for Command and Conquer. EA definatly is a big company, and holds a lot of cards now. They are good at what they do business wise, and come out with great games every so often. To me, It seems like their respect towards gamers are going down hill though and they are going more into business, in which they should but us gamers are their business too. I'm just worried in what direction they are going in.

Ninja, Techinically we are both right. It does really stronly on a CPU, but here's were having a PRO-Graphics card, Far superer the top of the line Consumer Graphics Card.. really helps out. It takes hours to render a scene in a movie, but having a Pro card for animation seriously drops the time it takes to render. That way you can dump a lot of the memory and loading being used by the graphics on the card and all the other tasks like the software running the rending and it loading onto the computer are done on a CPU.

Either way you look at it, both machines have came a very far way. I mean hell, when Toy Story came out, the 77 minutes if animations requier 800,000 machine-hours to render. We've came a far way now, where we can do a job like that in weeks or less.

General Gaming / RE: PC Games on XBox

Alright, so I was a little moody last night, and My apoligize. To me, I don't understand how a game meant for new technology can be put into a console game without taking things out, besides the graphics. Also, The XBox version will have 2 player co-op. That's something more than what the PC version will have they say. So they obviously have to be tweaking things and having MS have their ideas. The lighting effects in games take a good time to render, and with swinging lights and dark rooms I just dont think will have the same feeling. I feel like there will be a lot of little stuff taken out of the game, which will make the enviroment different. Though, How can you be so positive too that there won't be things taken out besides the enhanced graphics? It's just anytime a computer game comes out to a console, It just doesn't have the same feel. It's my past experiences that make me doubt. It just makes me wonder, and I dont trust MS to make it the same game.

To me.. Why I chose to dislike the Mac is for a few reasons. One of the main reasons is that not everyone codes the same games and programs, and not being to run my favorite games and programs is a big thing. Another big thing for me is being able to look into my computer, have the most knowledge about it, and be able mess around with stuff and update it. I find it easier for things like this on a non-mac machine. It's not even anything non-Microsoft. I hate MS. I refuse to buy a XBox becuase of my hate towards MS. I switch off from Linux and Windows. I fully understand the Mac. It is a very stable machine, and like I said before.. The new G5 is the most powerful computer on the market, unless you build your own computer. I build my computers, I'd rather use AMD or Intel than anything else. I also work with Mac and PCs at my college when doing computer animation. Pro-Graphic cards won't work on a Mac, there for the rendering process will take forever. Also, I've had a PC all my life, going to a Mac right now just wouldn't be worth it. I also said earlier that I'm excited to see the fight between Macs and PCs. Just right now, Mac has nothing going for me that my PC can't do, besides ProTools (But I'm not a recording arts type of person to use that program). So it's not that I don't understand and consider the Mac, becuase in the future I might just buy one. I just get the most out of my dollar making my own Intel Machines.

See I don't "expect console games to look as good as high-end PC games". That's my point. Doom 3 is being used as a money maker, that's why I said it's said. It's not sad that people would buy it, it's sad that Id uses it to make money. Now don't get me wrong, I understand you make a game, becuase its your job and hopefully love, and with that you get paid.. especially how well you do, the more you get paid. I also understand making these deal with MS will really give them a boost. To me, Putting a game like Doom 3, which like I said before it was originally just for new generation computers, I think makes it a new game. I'm asking if it will be the same game, and I highly doubt it. I don't think it will have the same feeling and same enviroment that it should have if put onto a console. Don't get offended by anything I say.. It is only my opinion. You seem frustrated AMac to the point that you overlooked what I was saying.

Heheh. All really nice. Sorry I have a friend named Bernie and it's out of habbit, Berny. Heh. Intel already has them working fine, but the probably is they don't feel it's stable enough to come out on the market anytime soon. They also have to "Grow" the artifial diamonds too, but they already have some working and they were shown off down here in Florida with this Technology Assembly at the convention place. Besides those type of problems, the main reason it's not consider stable is becuase when you get down to it, your computer is only as fast as your slowest part. Sure the Processor can handle extreme heats of over 200+ degrees, but not everything else can. Right now we are not done with the silicion though, so there isn't a need as of now. 3-6 years down from now.. maybe even sooner. So far, Everything is still keeping up with Murphy's Law. Just to clear that up in more detail. I already paid more than I should have no building my new computer almost a year ago, and I'm still in college.. so I'm just going to wait a few years when I get my degree and get into animation when I buy the top of the line computer.. So I really can't say what kind of computer my next one will be. I'll tell you one thing though, No matter where I go, My WinAmp is going to come with me!

Yeah, Like I said before.. They do bring us good games. I was going to mention General Choas, so it's funny Ian brought that up. That game is definatly a CLASSIC. I saw you post in my PC games on Console Thread couch, and I noted The Sims was an awesome game, so I'll say it here to. Heh. The Simpsons games are always good to laugh about and have fun just playing the game. I also said Command and Conquer got ruined by them, but they also redeemed themselves with the newest Command and Conquer by making it one of most intense RTS games.

Yeah. That is very true, I should be happy iwth the superior version. The Sims I thought was an excellent offering to the consoles. I guess what I'm trying to say is the games meant for the new generation of computers... Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 are the more common known ones. If you own a PC for gaming use, usually you keep your computer organized and clean and well kept up with.. their for windows will have less problems. Though really, I enjoy my online gaming on the PC more than any console that has ever been out.... Though I did enjoy playing SNES online, and Dreamcast. As much as XBox is an online tool, I think the online gaming world is easier to deal with on a computer, instead of via console.  Also, Games like Real Time Strategy shouldn't be on a console, though I do notice they try to avoid them.

« on: June 17, 2004, 03:46:42 AM »
Ehh. I really don't know where to put this, so here it is in General Chat. I also don't know if this topic has really been posted or talked about, though I did see something about EA talking about how Nintendo's future line up isn't as respected as Sony and MS. I think EA is one of those companies that can be a threat to how future generations think about videogames. In the computer world, They just worry about rushing things. A game that came to mind was Command and Conquer : Tiberian Sun. I have been a fan of Command and Conquer since the first one, but this one blew my mind! Years and years of planning this game, then EA buys it out and rushes it. Soo many bugs, and So many patches!  There are definatly those great titles EA has brought to us, and EA has it's good sides. I think they have been slipping for some years now. Huge company with a lot of power can be bad, no?

General Gaming / PC Games on XBox
« on: June 17, 2004, 03:40:11 AM »
I feel like Microsoft is using the PC Games more than they should to sell their game. Example of what I'm talking about is Doom 3. Now I understand Doom 3 is going to be a huge hit, I can't wait for it, and that it will sell on XBox... Mostly becuase Hardcore XBox Owners are brainwashed by Microsoft to buy any game. It will "Be the same game" but with less graphics. I just think this is sad, becuase I own Rainbow Six 3 for the PC and it is an awesome game. I played it at my friends house who had it for XBox and the graphics weren't anywhere as sharp as the computers, and things were left out. If the XBox is unable to fully run Rainbow Six 3, makes me wonder how bad Doom 3 will look. The computer is it's own gaming tool, and I think it's big name games on the computer shouldn't be aloud on consoles. We are entering an age of computers, where every home is either buying a new computer, or upgrading theirs. Most homes have a computer, and if not, they will sometime down the line shortly due to the price drops of older computers. (Which are still good to this day) So the excuse, Well some homes don't have a computer and just a console.. shouldn't be aloud.... To some extent. Games made for the next generation computer, shouldn't be seen on current or next generation consoles. The greed in money with this makes me upset. Though, I would like to see old school computer games that weren't played as much as they should becuase not everyone had a computer back in the day. System Shock 2 comes to mind that should have been on a console last generation. Ehh, what do you guys think?

I hear you on that Bernie. My school is a type of techinical college, Full Sail is the name of it. It majors in Film, Recoring Arts, Show Production, Game Design and Development, Digital Media, and Computer Animation. The school is kind of split when it comes to Mac vs PC. The Film, Recording Arts, and Some Digital Media students love Macs becuase with what they use the computer most for. The rest are PC based.. especially Computer Animation and Game Design... Computer Animation being the field I'm under. The biggest problem with the Mac I have is just like Grey Ninja said. The PC is an all around machine, that I can go into myself and do whatever I want. I do have to worry about going to the store and worrying about a program or game not being able to run under a Mac. Though, that is getting less and less.

On a second note.. The new Apple's are very powerful machines. The G5s are an awesome tool. Though Intel right now is working on Artifial Diamond Proccesors. Since the silicion can only reach the max heat of around 110 degrees... That is our biggest problem. In the next 5-7 years, the compitition between Mac and PCs will be an amazing thing to watch. I can honestly say I can't wait to see what comes next. The stability of a Mac is just awesome too.

Anywho, back to the topic. To just get everything in a nutshell. WinAmp is just one of those programs that EVERY PC owner makes sure they have on their computer. Even people who know nothing about computers use WinAmp. Heh, Grey Ninja was right about WinAmp too about how simple the code is, and yet how universal it can be to be edited with. I have this awesome skin called MMD3 and the things you can with it for just being a skin is awesome. I like the Light Up LEDs. =0)

Heh, I just wanted to say I apoligize if I seemed harsh. The college I goto, lol we argue about what's better, Mac or PC. I guess I got my daily habits in the way. Heh. I don't have macs, but I also wanted to say WinAmp can basically open any file type that is Audio/Video. Well, Besides DivX but that's because of all the CodeC that goes into it. The thing I do like about Mac is that it's not always a constat fight to update your system and keep 100% Operational.

Hey Mouse Clicker. I had a similair problem like that before. The easiest way was for me to just organize everything myself. I created a folder on my desktop called "Music" and inside would be more folders of different genre. Then when you would go in.. It would have all the artists that I would have, and when you go into their folder, it would have all their CDs. Any extra songs that aren't on CDs or live from concerts or what-not.. I would leave in that Artist's Folder. In each Album Folder, I would have a save WinAmp Playlist file of the whole CD. So now when I open my winamp, I neatly go through my folders, and drag each WinAmp Playlist files I want into enquery. So that if I dragged 3 playlists, I would have 3 albums already organized already. It is a lot of work at first, but now it's very easy for me. I never use the Media Library. Ehh, Maybe you can find a better way. I just like doing it this way becuase not only are my files and folders very organized and easily reachable (Quickbar hit the Desktop Button, Open Folder, Drag).. but it also makes it easy to back things up.

To Berny. We all don't like Macs. WinAmp is the best tool for me for music. It's very customizable. There are soo many skins, so no matter what you can have the colors fit your desktop. Always a must for me. The plug-ins for it are amazing, and there are just SOO many. The Visualization Center is an awesome tool where you can DL tons, or they even let you make your own. It's also a good program for watching videos, though I use my WMP and DivX more. I read someone said when they format their computer, thats the first tool they put on with a few others. Well, the same 3 tools they said are the same I install when I reinstall Windows. Mac is an awesome computer for Video and Music, but when it comes to Windows... WinAmp beats any program hands down. So maybe you need to do your own organizing.. but if you have your own personal computer, you should have it organized anyways.

Has anyone else besides me liked Fist of the North Star? Heh. I hear you on the Case Closed evil intentions. I watch Adult Swim everyday.. Remind you that, that's the ONLY time I watch TV. I was really disappointed that they took off Inuyasha for Case Closed, though I know they still have it the un-aired (On Adult Swim) on Saturdays and waiting for the next season or whatever. It's a good idea for a show, and I can see how it can be good.. but ehh, I just don't like it. For Adult Swim, I thought it was weak.

It's a pretty nice place for 3D Wallpapers. Some are for members and you have to pay for that. =/ Bleh. My friend was nice enough who had an account there to send me a zip of all the member desktops. There are some really great ones in there. Though the non-member ones are just old member ones, and there is still a lot.

General Chat / RE: Blender's 50 Worst Songs Of All Time (not pretty)
« on: June 15, 2004, 11:34:02 AM »
All really good tunes on that list. First off.. Styx.. RULES! You listen to the CD, and you get a good laugh through it. You get to Mr. Roboto and Renegade, and those are the tunes of Styx. Like I said though, a lot of their CD is a joke to me, but I still like a certain amount of their songs, and for that they get my credit. I thought Shaq trying to make a rap CD was horrible. It seems like they stuck to a certain generation and style of music to choose from. They have to be tryin to get attention or something. Not many people I know HATE these songs, and a lot love them. I'm a fan of older Hip-Hop, but a lot of rap that comes out is just crap. Then again, if they added rap to the list, they would definatly need to widen it from 50 to 500 worst songs. I love my old school Hip-Hop though. Nothing beats the CLASSICS though, like some or most they listed. It's kind of like they took the 50 most popular songs that all the generations have all heard, and put it into whats worse than the other. When they are all good songs, and you put it in terms of one worse than the other, they are all still good. Thinking they are just attention grabbers with the headline of 50 worst. I don't think thats what they were tryin to get at, but I like to tell myself that.
