Nintendo Gaming / RE:Is Skies of Arcadia Legends any good?
« on: October 13, 2003, 10:11:14 AM »
1) Yes, it's very good.
2) It's only $10 at Best Buy.

So to me, that says "MUST BUY!"  That is, if I didn't already have it......

Best Buy currently has Skies of Arcadia Legends for $9.99.  Somewhere, my wallet weeps (I paid $50 when it first came out.  It's worth it, but damn, I'd much rather have gotten it for $10)

Well, unfortunately, the copy of Zelda was the last one, and it was the unwrapped floor copy that used to have a 'display box, see counter' sticker on it.  But since it was the last one, they just stuck the disc in and left it unsealed.  Oh well, I ended up getting $30 in credit from EB, so that's gonna go towards F-Zero

If anyone has one near them, you should really check out Sams Club or BJs Wholesale Club.  BJs seems to routinely liquidate their stock of video games (as they get so little new stuff).  Right now, the one by me has Enter the Matrix and The Hulk for GC for about $32 each.  They also have Mega Man Battle Network 3 Blue and White for $19 each and DKC for $20, both for GBA.

Sams Club seems to be notorious for marking games down, but I got a real steal.  They had their last copy of Zelda: Wind Waker for $9.50!  I already had one, but I still bought it and traded it in (it was the unsealed floor copy).  They also had a last copy of Star Fox Adventures for $7.50, but I didn't think I could do much with it.

Anyway, check those wholesale clubs people!

Nintendo Gaming / I discovered pirated games in my collection

Aiai:

no, a box is no guarantee of a legit copy.  My pirated Gradius came in a box.  Boxes are easy to replicate (though the stock of the cardboard is different).

I'm still a lil' miffed about question 22 (the Real Monsters one)...  I mean, Crump and Ickle are not the same as Krumm and Ickis.  But whatever, c'est la vie.  LeBron is still the Chosen One...

I bought my first GBA game from a dealer on eBay a few weeks ago, and I've come to the conclusion that it's a counterfeit.  Someone in the Planet Trivia chat gave me some contact info for Nintendo's piracy units.  I sent them an e-mail, and will likely call them on Monday.  It's a damn shame that people are passing off their knock-off wares as legitimate products (at least my seller was).

As a word of advice, do not bid on anything from Blamofyouth, as it will be pirated.

Nintendo Gaming / What game is best for playing at school?
« on: June 01, 2003, 10:26:08 AM »
Game & Watch Gallery 4 would be pretty good for school, I'd imagine.  Especially since you can pause in the middle of the games to take a note or two once in a while.

Really, any game that you can just pick up and play, without having a story to digest is good for schooling.

i choked on the tiebreaker...so sad.

though I guess it should be noted that my Zelda trivia knowledge is pitiful.

Oh well, I won a box last week (which arrived today, w00t!), so that's cool

Nintendo Gaming / Mega Deals at BJ's Wholesale Club.
« on: May 26, 2003, 05:13:37 PM »
I don't know if this is nationwide, or just in my store, but they appear to be clearing out their inventory to make way for some (much needed) new games.  I picked up a copy of Pikmin for $10.80.  Also of interest was Luigi's Mansion ($16.50), Metroid Prime ($17.80 - ugh...), Evolution Worlds ($7.40), and Rogue Leader II ($16.50).

The clearance isn't limited to GCN, though.  XBox had mostly sports games (in fact, all but one were sports games), PS2 had some high-quality titles for cheap (Dark Cloud 2 for $14.60?!?!), and GBA had a few (only noteworthy one was LOTR: Two Towers for $12.40).

Check it out, you might get a good deal.

p.s., the only new GCN games that they are carrying (at least at my BJ's) are Wind Waker and Enter the Matrix.  Just in case you cared.

Nintendo Gaming / Where the eff is Harmony of Dissonance??
« on: May 24, 2003, 05:23:34 PM »
Seriously...

I thought that maybe, since Aria of Sorrow was coming out, that Konami would maybe drop the price on HoD.  But alas, it just isn't available?  WTF?  Is it out of print or something?

IGN finally has it, but it's locked.  ARG!  any Insiders seen it, and care to comment on it?

I thought I heard that Killer 7 would definitely be shown at E3?  So...where is it?  Did I just miss it in the chaos, or has it not appeared yet?

I wonder if the Four Swords for GC will be the same as the GBA version...that would be fairly lame if it was almost identical...

And I'm still not sure what to think about Tetra's Trackers.

Nintendo Gaming / New Metroid and Mario Kart

I got this from someone in the Gamecube forum here on pgc...
This assumes that you have windows XP, i don't know a fix for any other windows (if they're different):

go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc, open a file called HOSTS, and search for lines that say "image.com.com".  Delete those lines.  It'll work (but it seems like Gamespot is getting POUNDED on the bandwidth and going madly slow).

edit: This is to fix the pictures on Gamespot, in case you couldn't tell.

Do you have Kazaa or Kazaa lite installed? If you do go to this directory if you are on windows computer with XP:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

In there will be a file called hosts. Right click on it to open in notepad, word, works, or whichever word processing program you use. Do a search for image.com.com. Delete that line. I believe it is in there 2 or 3 times. Gamespot stores their media on their servers. I haven't seen any sude effects to this.

Berto your the friggin man, thanks for the info

Ditto.  Thanks man!

Nintendo Gaming / Beat Splinter Cell (GCN) yet?
« on: April 21, 2003, 03:31:55 PM »
When i got it for PC, I beat it in 3 days.  It was a really fun 3 days, but it's still 3 days.  Just a little too short if you ask me.

I usually am not a huge sports fan and I haven't had a good time with a golf game since NES golf back in 1986.
I've seen this game at Best Buy for 19.99 or so and I must say it would be totally worth it.  The only bad part of the game is the
really poor quality video they show (FMV) at boot time.

BS.

I was planning to get this next week?  Where the hell did you get it for $4.95?!?!?!

Looking online, it appears that it's $39.99.  Still cheaper than either the PS2 or XBox versions.

Actually, I've found that the old Game Gear cases that I have work beautifully.  Each single case holds 2 games.  Actually, I use a lot of my old Game Gear stuff to carry my GBA.  I've got a big case that held the GG, a bunch of games, tv tuner, ac adaptor, magnifier, and other stuff.  I use it for GBA, games, car adaptor, link cable, and flood light (which fits perfectly in the magnifier slot).

Something to think about, if you can find some dirt cheap GG accessories, they can be made to work with the GBA.

Nintendo Gaming / XGRA Discussion Thread
« on: March 23, 2003, 05:02:17 AM »
Well, I must say that the interview definitely has me interested again.  Especially after he dismissed the speed issue.  I'll probably hold off on buying it immediately, though.  Since XG3 dropped in price so quickly, I don't want to buy XGRA for $50 and have it drop like a stone to $20 in three months or so.
