Nintendo Gaming / RE:What´s happening to Mario 128?

How exactly did GTA rip off the water cannon?  I can't think of anything that even resembled it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nintendo Licensing music?
« on: August 03, 2003, 05:59:59 PM »
I think you guys are missing what he is saying....he's not saying that RPGs and Mario and Zelda should have lisenced music.  He means in games where it would fit e.g. racing games, extreme sports games, etc.  Of course you don't wanna hear Britney Spears singing the theme to Metroid or something off the wall like that, but there are many situations where a lisenced song could work.

Yea, that's one of the major reasons I picked up a PS2.  I knew there were some great PS1 games that I wanted along with the PS2 games out, so that had me sold.  Backwards compatibility is never a bad thing...neither is DVD support if the system uses DVDs anyways.

What GC2 really needs is a killer game ala Halo for Xbox at release.  What did they have for the GC?  Luigi's Mansion? heh  A strong start always help in the console race.

Um, ok....when did I or anyone else ever say that using the same controller is innovative?  I just that it was a good idea.  And yes, Nintendo would have gotten lambasted for using that garbage controller for the N64 for the GC also.  That's my opinion of course, but I thought the N64 controller sucked nuts.

Anyways, why do people around here get so defensive?

General Gaming / Controller Evolution: Is It Necessary?
« on: May 11, 2003, 04:41:35 PM »
No, it's not necessary.  Sony has shown this with Dualshock.  It worked for PS1, itis working for PS2, and I'd bet that it'll be used and work for PS3.  Another thing nice about using the same controller is that older ones work with the new systems.  Good stuff.

Nintendo Gaming / Midway losses, Blames Nintendo- less support
« on: May 01, 2003, 05:11:52 PM »
Eh, from what I heard MK: DA was pretty good.  It also sold pretty well for the other two consoles if I remember right.  So if it sells fine on other systems but not on GC, why not lessen support.

What I'm trying to get at is that it is not a knock on GC if they give less support to the console because of poor game sales.  It's called business and maximizing profits.  Why develop a game for console that they know the game won't sell well on.

NOT EVERYONE'S OUT TO GET NINTENDO PEOPLE.  I keep seeing threads like this, and people are pissed at companies that are doing normal business stuff.  For example, if a company finds one of their products isn't selling well in a particular store chain, they'll lower or stop altogether the amount of that product they make for that specific chain.

And I'm not saying Midway is a developer of particularly good games, just quoting it as an example.

Nintendo Gaming / SoA:L battle system?
« on: April 29, 2003, 05:33:33 PM »
What kind of battle system does SoA:L have?  As in, real time or turn based, stuff like that?  I heard that the people that made Phantasy Star for the Genesis were the same ones that made this.

So....

General Gaming / does your ps2 do this?
« on: April 28, 2003, 05:37:41 PM »
Bah I say.

I've never had an error with my PS2 whereas I've had 4 or 5 with my Cube.  Granted the first gen released had a slew of problems, but otherwise, the reason PS2 has this reputation is because there are so damn many of them.  More consoles = greater frequency of problems.

Nintendo Gaming / GTA3 and Vice City coming to Xbox and GCN in 2004
« on: April 28, 2003, 05:30:55 PM »
So X-box and GC owners get games that came out two and three years ago, respectively.  Not very exciting and not really a good business decision since by that time they will have already either:  bought a PS2 and played the games or played them at someone elses' house.

I wonder what the motives behind this are....

Nintendo Gaming / Metal Gear GC has a name!
« on: April 27, 2003, 05:36:08 PM »
He's back could refer to so many people:

Raiden
Snake
Liquid
Solidus
Big Boss (seems like a stretch but who knows)
Ocelot

I wonder whether it will be a sequel to MGS2 or not?  I'm kinda hoping it will be since that line at the end leaves things hanging.  I want to know what Otacon meant. bah

General Gaming / Who still loves their PC over consoles and why?
« on: April 26, 2003, 06:10:57 PM »
Yea, except that:

1.) Consoles are much more comfortable to play

2.)  You have to pay to upgrade every 6 months or so, and that's much more than a console.

And I find it hard to believe that PCs have more games then consoles.  Although some PC games are frickin awesome, I prefer consoles.

Nintendo Gaming / Question about WW graphics
« on: April 17, 2003, 10:56:29 AM »
Sounds like light flashing on the objects in-game.  WW has very nice lighting effects and stuff like torches will flicker light around.

If it's not that, then it sounds like either your TV or your Cube is having a problem.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda and misprints go hand it hand it seems
« on: March 26, 2003, 10:17:17 AM »
The entire game has a middle ages feel IMO, with the intro music, some of the language used, and some of the artwork like the boat.

Very cool indeed.

I would imagine that those doors were put in place by the Pirates as a security measure.  Regarding the use of video in the Pirate and Chozo things, I think it would be impratical to use them since a lot of the lore and data were about things that appeared later in the game.  I know I'd rather experience the susprise of seeing an enemy first when I go to fight it rather than in a video beforehand.

General Gaming / XENOSAGA: World's Largest Game = 8.5 gigabytes
« on: March 05, 2003, 05:15:23 PM »
I don't understand why people would rather watch an in game sequence when they can watch a beautiful pre-rendered scene....makes no sense.   Like someone else said, RPGs in the past had tons of cutscenes too, they were just done in game.

On another subject, is it a good idea to play Xenogears before you play Xenosaga or what?  I may pick up one of them in the future and I'd rather play Xenosaga if you don't really need to play Xenogears first.

Nintendo Gaming / ps3/xbox to get crush by GC2?
« on: March 03, 2003, 05:47:42 PM »
What do you mean Sony can't afford it?  Granted they're not as rich as MS, but they probably the most profitable home entertainment company.  Plus they make so much money off of game liscensing that it will evantually lead to profit even if they begin by taking losses.  Unless I'm wrong, PS2 broke even a few months ago, and unless software sales stop, profits can only get better for Sony.

Ok, I can name PLENTY of glitches in the game.  First, it freezes at particular spots.  Second, the controls, although very useful, aren't very responsive.  Third, it's EGM.  I can name plenty of other mags that are stuck up Sony's and MS's butt.  Don't worry about it.  9.5 is alot better than what I thought it'd get.  I figured that since they usually don't like inovative, rock hard games that it'd get like a 9.0 or maybe an 8.5.  But I'm happy with that score.  Peace

Note the use of "innovative, rock hard".  Not just from him either, I hear it thrown around a lot....some games are worthy of being called truly innovative, many are not and they're called that anyway.  I dunno, just a bit of a peeve of mine.

Nintendo Gaming / ps3/xbox to get crush by GC2?
« on: March 01, 2003, 05:57:29 PM »
Somehow I doubt that.  Just because MS and Sony are adding other stuff to their consoles doesn't mean that they won't be competent game machines.  Adding other entertainment features doesn't mean that they are forgetting about games, and as such game companies won't abandon them.  I don't see how "there is no point", considering an all purpose machine is much more appealing than a single purpose machine.

And the cost of stuff like DVD burners and hard drives is going to be significantly (hundreds) less than what it is now.  I wouldn't expect PS3/Xbox2 to be much more than PS2/Xbox was at their releases.

And anyways, somehow I don't think it's going to have all of that stuff.  Maybe something like a TIVO feature, but not too much more than that.

Nintendo Gaming / EGM rate Zelda!!!
« on: March 01, 2003, 02:08:12 PM »
Blah, blah, blah.....like other people said, it's all subjective.  Just like people are calling GTA:VC a piece of crap:

"I am not mad at the 9.5. I am mad because a piece of crap like Vice City gets a perfect score while Zelda doesn't. It's like that girl you had a crush on back in high school who would only go out with the most worthless men she could find. It's insulting. "

How the hell is it insulting?  VC is not worthless, and Zelda is not perfect, come on now.  Reviews are SUBJECTIVE, meaning they are OPINIONS.  Why do people get their panties all up in a bunch over stuff like this?  Ughhhhh.....

And what is so innovative about WW anyways?  Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's going to be amazing but nothing really caught my eye as being really innovative like OoT was.

Nintendo Gaming / A success formula for Nintendo
« on: February 21, 2003, 09:03:40 AM »
I don't feel like writing some big, long reply but I'll say this:  PS2 and Xbox (PS2 especially) have just as many great games as GC.  If you want I can make a list for you....I'm sick of hearing that PS2 and Xbox have "crap" titles.  They just don't.  The games on those systems might not be personal preference for you, but they certainly do not suck.

Gamecube does have almost nothing in terms of conventional console RPGs, except for SoA:L.  Zelda and Mario (how you can call Mario an RPG at all is beyond me) are NOT RPGs.  They are adventure/platform.

RPGs, especially from Squaresoft, are monster sellers.  If the Gamecube ever managed to snag an exclusive (conventional) FF from Square, no doubt it would sell lots of GCs.  It seems to me that Nintendo underestimates the selling power of a good RPG.

Nintendo Gaming / ok! so i'm a Nintendo FREAK!
« on: February 17, 2003, 06:13:38 PM »
Eh, the fact is that there are other superb games on other consoles. Games on the same level as Nintendo's games. (yes I know it's hard for a lot of you to believe)

The average gamer only buys two or three games.  So they pick go and pick up whichever console catches their eye....they might base it on exclusives like GTA or the fact that a certain system has a DVD player and a game like Madden or something.  Not everyone is so nuts over Nintendo people.

I'm not arguing that dismissing a console because it is "kiddy", or "too big and made by MS" is not ignorant, I'm just saying that most people are just casual gamers that might only buy a few choice games of some sort.  Not everyone has the money or desire to buy all of the Nintendo exclusives.
