Dear friends and frenemies

I, Zap, have recently become more aware (don't worry, not like Skynet; more like Lt. Data, but not the evil side of Lt. Data when Lore gets ahold of him and he goes berzerk--bezerk--**** I give up ever trying to spell that word right, anyways just the good and kindly android-man that strives to become more human, even if it means living to 1,000 years old and all your friends die off). For years, I have pursued a persona that is unlike any other known to man: partially the straight shooting Zap Rowsdower, part cranky Pac-Man, and maybe some Michael Scott thrown in for good measure with a penchant for poorly conceived posts, artwork, and music. Now I know that the true meaning of friendship is being true to yourself and so I will go back to being myself again. I'll just be . . . me.


Just to be clear, I have buried the old persona in a field where cicadas sing from the grass and wildflowers overlook a hilly mountainside that turns a beautiful orange and purple during summer evenings. It's beautiful to look on the gravestone now and wonder what might have been. I will never think of the past with anything other than a warm smile and bask in the sinking sun of an era that will never return. Yet I will always be thankful for the memories and how each one has helped me grow ever closer to humanity as a result.

Mr. Reg Mellor, the “king of ferret legging,” paced across his tiny Yorkshire miner’s cottage as he explained the rules of the English sport that he has come to dominate rather late in life.


“Ay lad,” said the 72-year-old champion, “no jockstraps allowed. No underpants — nothin’ whatever. And it’s no good with tight trousers, mind ye. Little bah----- have to be able to move around inside there from ankle to ankle.”


Some 11 years ago I first heard of the strange pastime called ferret legging, and for a decade since then I have sought a publication possessed of sufficient intelligence and vision to allow me to travel to northern England in search of the fabled players of the game.


Basically, the contest involves the tying of a competitor’s trousers at the ankles and the subsequent insertion into those trousers of a couple of peculiarly vicious fur-coated, footlong carnivores called ferrets. The brave contestant’s belt is then pulled tight, and he proceeds to stand there in front of the judges as long as he can, while animals with claws like hypodermic needles and teeth like number 16 carpet tacks try their damnedest to get out.


From a dark and obscure past, the sport has made an astonishing comeback in the past 15 years. When I first heard about ferret legging, the world record stood at 40 painful seconds of “keepin’ ’em down,” as they say in ferret-legging circles. A few years later the dreaded one-minute mark was finally surpassed.

A spinoff of this thread to avoid clogging it up with posts about bad songs. And oh, were they bad. There were LOTS of silly songs back then (a whole 15 years and 4 months ago) that probably shouldn't have been popular, but somehow were. Was it because of music videos giving certain artists an edge over others? The growth of the Compact Disc (aka, CD)? Shortening attention spans? A general prosperity and relative peace during that era?

How do you explain songs like U Can't Touch This, the Macarana, Livin La Vida Loca, and other nonsense songs exploding into the collective conscious? There have always been one-hit wonders, but the 90s seem different in retrospect. Agree or disagree?

Yes you can. There are plenty of 30 year old, and much older, movies I have yet to see.

Ben Hur--wins the chariot race.

Star Trek 1--Spock doesn't die at the end

The Ten Commandments--Moses had to rewrite them himself

Godzilla--ends up reviving Japan's construction industry

E.T.--destroys Japan's video game industry

Guys I owe you all sincere and earnest apology I was a complete and total idiot. I had no idea I was that bad, I honestly thought I was goofing around just like what I figured everyone here was doing. It turns out that I was not a very friendly, considerate, or even coherent poster. Man my spelling was far from the worst thing you all had to sit through. To make it all worse I actually went on some long tangent about how lame you all were for correcting my mistakes because I thought it was all a personal attack. I made some enemies early on based simply on me misunderstanding what people were trying to say.

This is a sincere letter of apology to everyone I offended, pissed off, attacked, insulted or argued with over nothing important. I lost my temper one too many times and some of you have put up with me when I was at my worst. I am genuinely trying to be a better person both here and in real life too.

Here's a forum poster that signed up June 20, 2013 and made 1,151 posts (so far), a forum-life of 14 months that will end any minute now after a derogatory image was posted in the Funhouse directed at the indefatigable Unclebob. Yoshi's island on the SNES was one of his first games and always looked forward to pokemon games, hence his name.

A memorial for posters who no longer post.

Here's a forum poster that signed up over 11 years ago and only make 13 posts, a forum-life less than 2.5 months between February 01-April 12, 2003. His last login was 3 months later on July 18, 2003.

From what we can tell he liked positivity (likely a result of his Wisconsin roots), was an enthusiastic Zelda fan and a jock, but owned both a PS2 and Gamecube--a truly unique soul.

We don't know whether he got bored with posting, forgot his password, got in trouble for being on the internet, or became indifferent to gaming in general, but we will never forget his memory. His last words were a fitting self-epitaph, suggesting a planned retirement from the community:

Dude, the Ocarina of Time commercial was slick!  I loved the ending, when it said something like "willist thou save the princess, or willith thou suck?"

Well, I own Madden 2003, NCAA 2003, Rocky, and a few other sports games, but thats mostly cuz I am a jock.  But, all these games are for my PS2, so I can compete with my friends on their PS2s.  My gamecube is for Metroid, Zelda, Mario, Star Fox, etc...

It says its the #1 selling item on Amazon.  This sounds like good news!

Its not just nintendo fans who love this game, its nearly everyone.  Look at gamerankings and look at all the ecellent reviews.  It's beautiful.

No no no, i know what it is.   I saw the explanation at ign a while ago.  What it is, is a result of a new technique where you get multiple colors of a small color palet, many more colors than you normally could use.   The lines are just a side effect that shouldnt really be there.

I'll go first:

The strategy is not that complicated.  Make a console that developers want to support and consumers want to buy.  Make sure it has a steady release of quality games.  There is no trick to it, it's just competency and hard work.  Wacky strategies is why the Wii U is a flop.  "Well we have no games and no third party support but our controller looks like a tablet so everyone will just be so mesmorized that they won't notice!"  Nintendo thinking they're King **** and can cut corners everywhere and jerk their customers and business associates around the whole time has blown up in their face.  They ride out this gen (since they're clearly not abandoning the Wii U) and next time stop fucking around for the first time in 20 years and maybe they'll bounce back if they haven't completely burned all their bridges.

Well if it's SOOOO easy to make a console why don't YOU do it?
